As part of our turnover documents, we are giving the client a Navisworks model with information on a lot of the equipment in the building. In Manage, I have added hyperlinks to the submittals, specs, and drawings for each piece of equipment. So, each item has 3 or more hyperlinks associated with it.
However, when I open the resultant NWD in freedom, I am only able to access the first hyperlink. I can't right-click on the item and hover on "Hyperlinks" to get a list of all of the hyperlinks to select like I can in Manage. All I can do is click on the hyperlink icon which takes me to the first hyperlink. All of the hyperlinks show in the properties window, but they are not clickable. In fact, the text is not even selectable. So, I can't even copy the text and paste it into a browser. No right-click options at all.
The only strategy I have come across is to create an html file for every object that has links to its respective items and then set a single hyperlink in manage to this html file. To me, this seems like an unnecessary extra step for functionality that should be included with the software. Am I missing something, or is something this basic really excluded?
I'm not aware of many programs that actually do support multiple hyperlinks on a single object. If you don't want to create an "index file" HTML, you might have to create dummy placeholder objects in the model to attach hyperlinks to (FWIW, I've been considering adding cameras with links to the actual site cameras...).
The frustrating part is that Navisworks does support multiple hyperlinks. If I open the NWD or NWF in Navisworks Manage all I have to do is right-click on the object and all of the hyperlinks are available under a "hyperlinks" flyout. They have removed this functionality from freedom.
However, accessing the hyperlinks in Manage is even easier than you state. When you right-click an object, there is no need to go into the "Edit Hyperlinks" dialogue. All of the hyperlinks are listed in the right click menu. (See attached image.) You can just select the hyperlink and it takes you right to the linked file. It seems to me this ability should be added to future versions of freedom as it does not require any editing of the file, just quick access to what is already there.
Adding hyperlink attachments 1 by 1? I am going to be doing this but was planning on hyperlinking documents to sets/or layers, but if i were to require 3 documents be linked to a certain light fixture I would have to manually place the attachement points 3 times for every single light fixture that could easly be over a thousand links youd have to create? Has there been any update on an easier or more efficient way to do this?
I have searched the help files and come across the move Gizmo but the link to the transform gizmo help is broken. Has this feature been removed? Is there any other way to move parts of an assembly within Navisworks freedom?
I do not wish to change the original file and save parts in there moved position. Sometimes our project managers or manual writers like to view the model files and move assemblies around and take some screen shots.
You can move and rotate parts in Design Review 2013 there is a "Move and Rotate" command in the tools panel. This allows you to select assemblies and move them no screen with a UCS "gizmo". Very similar to the way it works in Navisworks manage.
I have also managed to move parts in Freedom using the measure method and transfer selected items, this is not a very user friendly way and was hoping that the gizmo method was available in Freedom like it is in Manage.
I published an .nwd with a model/point cloud. Coworker wants to print nice screenshots without using a cartridge of black ink, so he asked if he can change the background to white. After searching in the program and online, I'm at a loss and am not sure if it's doable. Can anyone on here confirm that there is, or is not, an option to change the background in Navisworks freedom? We're running 2022 at the moment. Thanks.
Black is the default background color in NW and no options yet available to change it when starting a new file. However, the background settings are saved with the file and will show the new background color after re-open.
Hello all. I'm unfamiliar with Navisworks but have worked several jobs ina row now where we get navisworks models from the EOR. My company does not use the software, so I onl have access to the Freedom version. I'd like to be able to produce plan and iso piping drawings, turn on line numbers to display along the piping, turn on tie-in numbers, etc. I know that most of this information must be in the original model, but what kind of access to it do I have in Freedom? I'm on the newset version, whatever that is - I just updated it the other day.
So, the extent you have as far as model and view manipulation is to enable the Selection Tree and Saved Viewpoints. You can right-click a Viewpoint and click "Add Copy" to duplicate it, and rename it to your liking. In the Selection Tree you can Hide the items you don't want to have visible, and make other additional changes in the Viewpoint Ribbon Tab. Once you have the view the way you like it, right-click the Viewpoint and click "Update" and it'll save the visibility properties and location. Only thing is, that is temporary. No file saving from the Viewer.
I know navisworks isnt autocad and this is a cad site but I was hoping someone can help....We're working in cad and uploading to navisworks for coordination with other contractors. We wanted to try and measure stuff in the navis file. I know i've heard Navis isn't super accurate when measuring but I dont remember if that was the Manage program and if you can even take measurements with the Freedom. Does anyone know?
I Dont Believe You Can With Navis Freedom... With The Full Version "navis Review" Yes You Can Measure.. But Depends On How Precise You Need... It Will Give You "round-about" Measurements... I Have And Use Both At My Job... Although Using The Measurement Part Of The Program Seems To Be Kind Of Hard To Use. I Wouldnt Quote Prices, Or Use If For Bidding A Job.. But To Get An Idea Or Guestimating... Sure
I work with both also. I would definately suggest that if you need a hard dim, then use the AutoCad counterpart to measure with. Navis does have ability, but even in the hands of Navis pro it can be challeging. Better off safe then sorry.
I'm struggling with Navisworks, I mean it is great, but if I want to take a dimension from a pipe, or some reason it will not allow me to select to measure the diameter or radius! For this reason we usually convert to edrawings, which is not ideal.
Guys if you turn on Heads up display from the GLOBAL options/INTERFACE/DISPLAY and turn on XYZ axis and Position readout. If you turn both on you will have more joy. You can also turn on your snaps using the snapping function at the same place. Turn on all checkboxes. Now you can be alot more accurate and find edges and vertex of any object.
This is how I set things in Navisworks Freedom, then free viewer. Click the Applications Button, go to Options > Interface > Snapping. Under "Picking" check all three boxes. Then on the Ribbon, go to View Tab > Windows > Measure Tool. (I usually undock this palette). Use the multitude of measure tools as needed. Make sure your Units are properly configured. These are the same tools as in Navisworks Manage.
And you can use these measuring tools dynamically, you don't have to click point to point in the viewable area. You can place a point, then maneuver around in 3D and place your second point. It works really well and has been very accurate for my needs, which is in the building industry.
