I also hope to see many of you come out for one or more of the CYCC
tournaments on 2-13 tomorrow. You have to be a USCF member to play
(see my previous post) and the tournaments will affect your rating.

Most of our club members would probably play in either the morning or
afternoon "quads". These have a Game/30 time control, so each game
lasts at most an hour. This is sometimes called "Action Chess". In a
quad, players are grouped in sections of four and play a round-robin
tournament where everyone plays everyone else. The fast time control
allows for the morning or afternoon option and if a player played in
both, lets them get 6 rated games in a single day. It takes 4 rated
games to get a USCF rating, so if you are just joining the USCF, this
would be the way to get a rating ina single day.

The slower time control (Game/75 so each game can last 2.5 hours)
section runs all day and is paired using the Swiss system, like our
weekly tournament games.

• Open (Open to all, 8-person SECTIONS, 3 round SWISS TOURNAMENT, G/
75) Rounds 9:00, 12:15, 3:00. EF $25 early; $30 at door.
Registration ends 8:40 am. For each section: Prizes 1st $70, 2nd
$30.
• Quads (Under 1400 only, 4 person quad, round robin, G/30, Morning
and Afternoon Events; can play in both AM and PM quads). AM quad
Registration ends 9:10 Rounds 9:30, 10:40, 11:50; PM quad Registration
ends 1:15 Rounds 1:30, 2:40, 3:50. EF $15 early for one, $25 for both
AM and PM; $20 and $30 at door. Prize: 1st place: $25.

• Location: Perry Science Hall, Johnson C. Smith University, 100
Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216
• USCF Membership Required; can be purchased on site or at www.uschess.org.
The sections will be determined by USCF rating as of the February
supplement; some section sizes may be adjusted depending on number of
registrants with corresponding adjustment to prize fund; the modified
sections will be the lowest rated ones in all cases. In the PM quads,
winners of the AM quads will be assigned to sections as if their
ratings were 100 points higher than the published rating.
To preregister, e-mail the following information to the tournament
director, Dr. Tim Champion, at tdcha...@gmail.com . You will
receive a confirmation e-mail. Please check these carefully and
notify Dr. Champion of any corrections needed, Bring the e-mail with
your payment (check or cash) the morning of the tournament. Make
checks to “CYCC”.
