Dear Friends and Hillary Supporters,

Our meeting tonight was very productive. We discussed future
activities, and we managed to move through a very long and complicated
agenda. I will summarize the meeting in a series of emails. There is
so much to accomplish, and there is so little time. But I am confident
we can achieve our various goals.

VOTER REGISTRATION

Deborah, a new member of our group, broached the topic of voter
registration tonight, and I cannot emphasize enough how important
voter registration is: Obama's campaign has been registering voters
for some time, and many new residents in Mecklenburg County are
presently unregistered. In fact, I am yet to register for the primary.
The deadline for registration and reregistration is 11 April, which
means we have one weekend to register and reregister new voters and
Republicans. Because we only have one weekend, we decided we would
target constituencies inclined to vote for Hillary Clinton: Latinos,
Republican women, working class Caucasians and transplants from the
industrialized North. Our time and resources are limited, and we will
register voters at locations these constituencies frequent: Stonecrest
Mall, Talley's Supermarket, Harris Teeter on Park Road, the Wal-Mart
at Arboretum, Fiesta Mall near Carowinds, areas around South
Boulevard, Steel Creek Wal-Mart and Eastland Mall. We hope to register
voters on Saturday and Sunday, and we already have a few volunteers.
But there are also many vacancies to be filled. THIS VOTER
REGISTRATION EFFORT IS WHOLLY INDEPENDENT OF THE OFFICIAL CAMPAIGN.

Saturday

Harris Teeter on Park Road, 1pm-4pm, Karen (kerenbo...@aol.com)
and Pat (kirb...@yahoo.com)

South Boulevard, TBA, Kenneth (kenneth...@hotmail.com) and Deborah
(dchi...@yahoo.com)

Arboretum, TBA, Louann (louannm...@hotmail.com) and VACANT

Stonecrest Mall, TBA, VACANT and VACANT

Talley's Supermarket, TBA, VACANT and VACANT

Fiesta Mall, TBA, VACANT and VACANT (bilingual preferred)

Steel Creek Wal-Mart, TBA, VACANT and VACANT

Eastland Mall, TBA, VACANT and VACANT (bilingual preferred)

Doshia (ddj...@uncc.edu) and Louann (louannm...@hotmail.com) will
also register and reregister voters Friday night during the Gallery
Crawl. They will meet at 8pm at the intersection of Davidson and 36th.
Please write them if you wish to join them tomorrow night. And please
write me if you are able to volunteer for voter registration
activities on Saturday. I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH HOW IMPORTANT THIS
IS. The more voters we register, the more likely Hillary will win
Mecklenburg County. We must commit to this.

In order to register and reregister voters, we must be in possession
of voter registration forms. Deborah has already obtained 500 voter
registration forms, but this will not be enough. Please consider
visiting the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections Office tomorrow
during your lunch hour or break in order to obtain more forms. Here is
the address and a map to the office:

Mecklenburg Board of Elections

Please contact me if you are able to obtain forms, as we must ensure
everyone who volunteers on Saturday has enough forms to register
voters. I know Karen (kerenbo...@aol.com), Vicky
(vhu...@carolina.rr.com) and Pat (kirb...@yahoo.com) will visit the
office tomorrow. Because we need as many forms as possible, I ask you
to please visit before they close at 5pm.

When one registers and reregisters voters, one should obtain the
permission of the manager of the store outside of which one will be
working. Harris Teeters, Targets and Wal-Marts are known to allow
citizens to register and reregister voters on the sidewalks in front
of their stores. Simply present yourself as an ordinary citizen, and
explain you are registering and reregistering voters for the
Democratic Primary on 6 May. Although Obama supporters wear pins and
other paraphernalia when registering voters, we will present ourselves
as nonpartisans who are registering and reregistering voters for the
Democratic Primary. Because we are already targeting locations
frequented by the constituencies I enumerate above, we will not have
to advocate for Hillary, as the voters we will register are already
inclined to vote for her. Or at least this is the assumption under
which we are operating. But no, we cannot refuse Obama supporters or
supporters of a different candidate. Everyone must be registered, and
we cannot pressure anyone to vote for Hillary when registering or
reregistering them for the primary.

All one needs is forms, a clipboard and a pen. I ask that we work in
pairs for reasons of safety. And if one chooses to sit at a table, be
sure to bring a sign that reads "Voter Registration for Democratic
Primary." WE NEED ELEVEN VOLUNTEERS FOR SATURDAY, AND I EXPECT WE WILL
REGISTER VOTERS ON SUNDAY. PLEASE CONSIDER PARTICIPATING, AS HILLARY
NEEDS AS MANY VOTES AS POSSIBLE. MOREOVER, THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN HAS
ALREADY LAUNCHED AN AGGRESSIVE VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE. WE HAVE ONE
WEEKEND, AND WE HAVE NO TIME TO LOSE.

I will provide more instructions tomorrow. But please write me if you
are able to participate. If you choose to join one of the groups that
have already formed, please write me. ALL LOCATIONS MUST BE STAFFED,
HOWEVER.

I am always available at kenneth...@hotmail.com and 704.341.7224.
Again, I cannot emphasize enough how important this voter registration
drive is. Please consider joining us, as this will help Hillary win
Mecklenburg County and North Carolina.

Sincerely,

Kenneth
