Most of us don't want to be the person who calls 911 for dumb stuff. But, according to the Commander of the 1st District at tonight's neighborhood meeting, it's not dumb stuff to call 911 on juveniles pulling on door handles. Here is why: 53 guns were taken from vehicles in the 1st District just this year. 53. Think about that for a second. 53 guns are now in the hands of juveniles who don't have a whole bunch of impulse control. A thirteen year old used a gun to shoot at a neighbor just last week.
The N.O.P.D. WANTS YOU to call 911 when you see anything suspicious
Just report what you see if it doesn't look right. Call 911
Some real world examples that happen in our area are:
Two guys are walking through the neighborhood in long sleeve hoodies covering their faces. It's still 90 degrees outside even though it's dark - call 911
Juveniles are pulling on vehicle door handles - call 911
A vehicle drives slowly down the street while the passenger looks in vehicles - call 911
And, if something happens, file a report. Yes, it's tiresome to do so but, if you don't file a report, the police don't know it happened.
Please don't leave anything of value in your vehicle... especially guns
