Dear Band Family:
Temperatures will be high for the weeks of band camp. Please make sure your students are bringing bags with water bottles and sunscreen with them. Camelbak-style bags are also effective. There will be water available on the sidelines but if they are carrying it with them, they can get a drink while staying involved and engaged. Please encourage your student to get outside today to help get acclimated.
Members of the drumline and drum majors are expected to arrive early based on their contracts signed in May. They will have extra equipment to set up prior to rehearsals and the same equipment will need to be put away at the end of rehearsals. For camp, that means that these members are expected to be at the school at 8:30am during the first week, 7/24-7/28, and 7:30am during the second week, 7/31-8/3. As we get better at setting up equipment, these early call times will likely move back 15 minutes.
Please provide your student with a lyre and flip folder this week for their instrument. Stores such as the Music Shoppe can help you determine what style of flip folder is the correct one for your student's instrument. We use bell clip lyres for trumpets and trombones. All other instruments use the lyres designed for their instrument's brand. Yamaha and Selmer use different size saxophone lyres so please take note of your instrument's brand name.
The previous email sent on Wednesday contains forms, fees, heat/air quality plan, and calendars. We will spend more time this year indoors working on music memorization than any previous year.
Students will need plenty of water, sunglasses, athletic closed-toe shoes, athletic clothing, sunscreen, flip folders for their instrument, and pre-packaged snacks to share.
We are in need of loaded coolers full of ice and water bottles to place on the field near the students, pop up shade canopies, and sunscreen to share. We still have a lifetime supply of hand sanitizer thanks to your donations in previous years. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Michael Allen and Brian Ford
