Hi Ben,
We spoke earlier today and I want to thank you for agreeing to
participate in the upcoming EcoFest on Oct 15th 10am-2pm at the Wilkins
School Community Center. I called the rest of the committee after we
spoke, they were so excited, we all really want to see one of your
converted cars. This will be a big draw. Feel free to invite the
Electric Car clubs, and they can contact me with any questions.
Currently, the Saturday Light Brigade will interview us on their show
the week before the EcoFest and they are thinking about a live broadcast
the day of. Closer to the event we will be contacting everyone again.
Soon we will be composing a flyer to distribute to promote the event. If
you can send the exact name that represents your group we can include
that in the promo information. Below I included some basic info about
the event we have been sending out to likely participants that gives
some background information...
For the past four years we have held this free, fun event geared toward
educating the public about various environmental issues. We invite
various groups to come and present and/or table such as GASP, Fossil
Free Fuels, Frick Environmental Center, Green Burial Pittsburgh, Global
Links, Nine MIle Run and many more. There will lots of boutique
recycling opportunities with a free clothing exchange, a sporting goods
swap, a free electronics collection by Goodwill Industries, a bring your
own t-shirt and turn it into a shopping bag station, a community build
mosaic recycled glass window under the guidance of glass artist Daviea
Davis, and more. Some information is practical, such as household
cleaning product that are safe and you can make yourself. Some is good
but a teeny bit unsettling (the Green Burial Movement). Last year Doug
Shields gave a passionate plea regarding Marcellus Shale. This event is
very important to our board president, Kay Wetzel, who has been involved
with the center for over 32 years. She also won the Jefferson Community
Service Award in 2011 for her efforts at he WSCC and throughout the city.
We are a 501c3, take a look at our website wsccpgh.com
<http://wsccpgh.com/>. It is not a true reflection of the activities
since most classes take the summer off. We are a hub or music and dance.
Some of our regular users include; West African Dance with Yamossa, The
Organization of Chinese Americans (dance classes for children every
week), tango, salsa, clogging, swing, ballroom, waltzing, tap ballet
jazz, CCAC Adult with Special Needs Social Hours, AA, Music Together,
Pals Homeschooling, Karate, piano and drum lessons, tai chi and more.
Thank you!
