Not sure why this did not go to the rest of you.  In fact, I'm on this distribution list individually and did not get this through our group email.

Subj: A gentle reminder

Friends of Cange,

After church last Sunday in Cange, Father Lafontant asked to meet with me and Mary-Gray Rauscher. Marie Flore and Jackie Williams were also at the meeting.

As you know, one of the reasons for the outstanding successes that our Diocesan outreach to Cange has experienced is because we decided long ago to let Father Lafontant set priorities and to work directly through him and Marie Flore in all of our efforts. Unfortunately, some individuals and groups have recently begun to work directly with other individuals in Cange to provide support for villages, schools and churches. They have provided funding directly to these individuals instead of through Father and Marie Flore. Although the intentions were good, the unintended consequences have led to confusion and conflicts in Cange and for Father.

He gave one example of a village which is receiving support directly through their priest. Although Father provided for the education of the priest and built the church for the village, the priest has now left the Episcopal Church and speaks negatively of the Church and Father's work. This has led to a great deal of confusion and trials for Father and his work. The priest is able to do this because he is receiving funds directly and feels he does not need to comply with Father's wishes.

The proper protocol to avoid such unintended consequences is to always work through the World Missions Committee of our Diocese and directly through Marie Flore as primary coordinator.

Father Lafontant wanted me to bring this to everyone's attention so that we may be aware of the difficulties that may arise if we try to work directly with others in and around Cange.

Please let me know if you have questions or I have not explained the situation clearly. As always, Father Lafontant is very grateful for our Diocese and our strong, long-term commitment to the work in Cange.

Best regards, Earl
