WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The chocolate enjoyed around the world today had its origins at least 3,100 years ago in Central America not as the sweet treat people now crave but as a celebratory beer-like beverage and status symbol, scientists said on Monday.

Researchers identified residue of a chemical compound that comes exclusively from the cacao plant -- the source of chocolate -- in pottery vessels dating from about 1100 BC in Puerto Escondido, Honduras.

This pushed back by at least 500 years the earliest documented use of cacao, an important luxury commodity in Mesoamerica before European invaders arrived and now the basis of the modern chocolate industry.

I don't know why chocolate and brewing shouldn't go hand in hand to this day. I think a beer-filled chocolate easter bunny would be quite tasty.

Wow, tempting. It is really cool. 4 kegs ready to go.
The only problems I see is that it needs to be.
A) Stored when not in use.
B) Cleaned when ready for use
D) Cleaned after use.
 
I like that it's on wheels, but it would be hard to get it in the car. Is it powered? Where does the C02 go?
 
I think the jockey box makes more sense. Easier to store and haul. The one I have set up now can easily be expanded to handle two kegs at once. It worked great this summer, with the exception that it seemed to leave a little oil on top of the beer. (didn't keep anyone from drinking it) It needs to be flushed out with TSP.
 
Interesting idea. 20 gallons of beer. Notice the little "Tent cards" under the bail of each keg identifying the brew? Good idea there too..

Will you have some time on Sunday to rack the Cherry Stout, IPA and Brown Ale?
Should we consider racking the pyment and mead too? (not sure where they are in their life-cycle)
 
Wait you have a big party tonight, or is it Saturday?
 
Either way, we need to get those beers off the trub and keg the Bertrand Farm IPA.

The bertrand farm IPA is kegged already, we did it last time.  We should get together on Sunday afternoon to make the other transfers, including the meads.  What time works best for you?
