CAUTION! The WD Security software uses your password to electronically lock and
unlock your drive. If you forget your password, you will not be able to access the data
that is on your drive or write new data to it. You will have to erase the drive before you can use it again.

Unfortunately for the safety of your own files you cannot get into the drive again without the password to access the files. One would need to wipe the drive completely for it to be useable again. This is for the best. Certainly you would not want anybody to be able to get their hands on your data by resetting such a password without your permission.

I believe Western Digital has a small disclaimer in the passport manual as a warning that forgetting the password will leave the drive locked up and unavailable for use. This being said, I am sorry if this is a frustrating experience for you. I hope the best!
OR you need a password recovery tool, choose amongst the list:

Hi @JoeySmyth , i understand these services are expensive, but i am considering to pay to recover my old time photos. yes, humans do make mistakes, and for the number of people watching this post, we have many of us who forgot/set up wrongly their passwords.

You can use your mobile or desktop device to reset your NCID password or unlock your NCID account at any time. Please note, however, that all NCID accounts that are locked automatically unlock after 30 minutes.

I login to Ubuntu 12.04 using a password. Later on, when I use my browser(Chrome), I'm asked for a password to unlock the keychain so that the browser can access my saved credentials for various websites (it's the same password). Also, whenever I use SSH to connect to other computers using my private key, I am prompted for the same password to unlock my private key.

How can I make it so that I am asked for my password exactly once per login (given that my login password is the same as the one I use for all my private keys)? One important requirement: all of my private keys should have a password. This means that I will have to type in one password on login, which will unlock some key which in turn decrypts the passwords for all other keys (which are also unlocked). It also means that if someone else gets access to my private keys, they will not be able to use them without at least one password.

Probably someone will try to label this question as a duplicate of this question, this question, or this question. While these questions are similar, none of them explicitly say that there still needs to be a password entered on login, as I am demanding here. As a result, the accepted solutions just say "set your passwords to blank"--I don't want that, it's dangerous! So I am aware of the similar questions, but none of them has received the correct answer yet, because they are slightly different.

If they are in other keyrings, delete them, and next time you are asked for the password there should be an option in the pop-up window to store it in the login keyring. (I think you cannot just copy from one to another, you need to delete.)

Set your keyring password to be the same as your log-in password, not blank. This will achieve your goal of unlocking the keyring on log-in, and will keep the keyring itself protected with a password as well. This is in fact, the default behavior for a new setup, so likely you changed your password at some point, or specifically set a different password on your keyring. Change one or the other so they both match, and everything will unlock when you log in.

I loaded both Windows 10 Bitwarden and the Firefox Extension. I set Lock to 30 minutes so when I leave my desktop, no one can get to my critical info. But when I come back to Firefox and tell it to unlock (using fingerprint unlock) it shows its unlocked but then right away locks again after a second. I usually have to reboot the computer to get it to work. What is not set up correctly? Or is this a bug? I have even gone back to the desktop Bitwarden, unlocked it, then went back to Firefox and still have this issue.
Also, I have a few sites that, for some reason, the link does not exactly match what is saved in Bitwarden so nothing appears/happens. Is there a way to force it to fill in the user ID and password by searching for it and then telling it to populate? When I search my vault, I only see Launch, copy user name, copy password and verification code. Copying and pasting is a pain.
Thank you.

The problem is instead that none of the form fields in the web form could not be identified as standard username and password fields, and therefore Bitwarden does not know where to autofill the username and password that is stored in your login record for this site.

In Google Chrome, when I go to a login page, a window pops up asking to "Enter password for keyring 'default' to unlock". In most cases, whether I click Cancel or enter my password, the login form gets auto filled anyway.

--password-store=
Set the password store to use. The default is to automatically detect based on the desktop environment. basic selects the built in, unencrypted password store. gnome selects Gnome keyring. kwallet selects (KDE) KWallet. (Note that KWallet may not work reliably outside KDE.)

When you open Chrome again it will ask for the password for the keyring but will give you an option to unlock the keyring every time you login. Make sure this is selected and enter your password to unlock the keyring.

Setting your keyring password to your login password should resolve the issue. If you completely remove the password, your keyring will be accessible without a password (i.e. by everybode who has read access).

Google Chrome uses Gnome 'login' keyring to securely store passwords. It is usually protected by a password that matches your login password. Gnome keyring can automatically unlock it when the user logs in. When you login normally, the system gives the password you just entered to gnome-keyring, which then unlocks the login keyring.

When you have auto-login enabled or use another passwordless authentication method (for example 'fingerprint' device), you don't enter any password, and gnome-keyring cannot unlock the keyring automatically. So it asks you to unlock it.

If you forget your e-Signature User ID or Password, click the 'Reset User ID/Password' button on the e-TIDES or PA-100 login screen. For security purposes, you will be asked to provide your Mother's Maiden Name, City of Birth, and the Email Address linked to your e-Signature account. You will also need to enter your e-Signature User ID or Password (whichever you remember). A temporary password and instructions will be sent to your email address. Be sure to update your email settings to allow incoming messages from pa.gov senders. Use the temporary password to login to the e-TIDES system or the PA-100 application.

Hi folks,
Does anyone know a way to enforce the screensaver after 20 minutes of inactivity and require password to unlock in Ventura?
I've been trying through a script but it doesn't seem to work, and end-users are still able to change the settings through System Settings.

Thank you!

I'm using MacBook Air. Recently I have changed the username from the user groups which now giving me a trouble to log into my user profile. I can not even install and uninstall software since it is asking the Username and Administrator password - even after giving the right details can not log in. Can you please help?

To create a new administrator account without needing any passwords, first print, copy or write down these instructions -you won't be able to access them while you're doing this procedure. Then, reboot your Mac and hold down the Command and S keys. You should see rapidly moving white text on a black screen. Once it stops moving, you should see some instructions near the bottom of the screen. Execute these commands in order, very carefully:

Many thanks for your reply. I'm new to Mac, not sure how could I implement this. While the username was created, by mistake I have changed the home folder. My username (home folder) was swapankumarmanna which made swapan as mentioned here -

It is in principle impossible to automatically unlock keyring on autologin, if you set any password for the keyring. The reason is that without autologin, PAM passes the password you enter for logging-in to the keyring simultaneously, and the keyring gets unlocked. If you perform autologin, there is no password to pass to the keyring, and the keyring cannot be unlocked.

If you have attempted to sign in multiple times to Deep Security Manager with an incorrect password, your user account will be locked out. The number of sign-in attempts allowed before lock out is configured in Administration > System Settings > Security > Number of incorrect sign-in attempts allowed (before lock out).
