Actually I enjoy cleaning at night. I live in the desert and in the day its just too hot and the streaks get out of control. I guess that I had worked 25 years on the graveyard shift before I started my business helps too.
I worked too many grave yard shifts in my previous career. I hope I never have to do anymore. I can understand some commercial accounts that need night work due to being busty during the day, however, I hope I never have to do any. As my business grows, I may find it necessary to do nights for some jobs, but i will have my guys do those. I have gotten too used to sleeping at night. lol. Guess I am getting lazy in my old age.
When a storm threatens, I move inside and take in the view through our sliding patio door. On one such day last summer, I did just that but found the vista covered in smudges. It was the door, not the woods, which was smudged.
The experts tell us we can use BKF on glass oven doors, glass stovetops, and glass table tops so why not windows? So, I got online and jumped down that rabbit hole where I found videos of people doing precisely that. BKF could rescue my view!
Sliding door tracks attract dirt, grime, bugs, and more. I use BKF MORE Spray + Foam cleaner to clean away the grime of time that builds up on tracks. Left unattended, the build-up can interfere with the operation of the door.

I has a house yesterday that had 16 dh and a few doors. It took 2 of us 3.5hrs.. The screens were a nightmare! They has the screens made by some guy that really had no clue on what he was doing so they fit WAY to tight. It took eveything to get them out! The customer told us that she wanted the screens taking out and cleaned or I would have just folded the windows in. She told me that her husband made the money she just spent it so bill me for the extra time. After that I had no problem fighting the screens.
Hey bro I remember that thread. It was like one of the 1st ones I read when i got into the business and joined that group. You are not kidding when you say you were bashed. It was like you were the only guy on there and EVERYONE was jumping you. Man that was crazy. I have never forgotten that post. You know some days I make $30 per hour, some days $60, on my government job last year it took about 2 weeks. minus my overhead I made about $500 per hour. I wish those were everyday lol. .
4. Spray the window thoroughly with the vinegar and water solution, or a commercial window-cleaning product (our tested guide to the best glass cleaners has some terrific recommendations). Another DIY solution is to mix one capful of ammonia with two gallons of water.
5. Using a clean, lint-free towel (or the black-and-white pages of a newspaper), dry the window completely using a Z-shaped motion. You also can use clean paper towels to dry the windows, if you prefer. If dirt or streaks remain, spray and dry again. Dirty windows typically require two rounds of spraying and drying.
2. Fill a bucket with clean, cool water and add a few drops of liquid dish soap. With a soft microfiber cloth, wash the exterior surface of the window. Use a sponge mop (or a soft cotton or microfiber mop) on a pole for higher windows.

Writer, author, and photographer Doe Zantamata tells us that when we are judgmental, we separate but when we approach things with understanding, we grow. So, what can we do to move ourselves from being judgmental to being more understanding and open-minded? We can:
Be self-aware of our reactions to situations. We need to take notice when we our thoughts are more critical and negative or when we let our feelings and emotions guide our reactions to things. Then we need to ask why did we go there first? When we can recognize our judgmental actions and understand where they are coming from, we are better positioned to shift our responses to more positive, open-minded ones.
Watch our word choice. The language (whether spoken or thought) we use reveals much about whether we are acting or thinking from a perspective of judgmentalism or one of understanding. The more negative, critical, or scornful, the more we are judging. The more positive, respectful, and supportive, the more we are operating from a perspective of understanding.
Be curious. Curiosity is when we are eager to know or learn something; when we are inquisitive. When we are curious, we are more open minded, objective, and resist jumping to conclusions or making assumptions. Curious people are more likely to look to understand a situation before passing judgment. They are more tolerant of ambiguity and uncertainty. Rather than seeing the fault in situations, they focus on getting to the root cause of issues and then attempt to deal with the situation creatively and innovatively.
Dr. Johnen. Thanks for or an essential reminder. We live in a culture where it is common to diagnose or judge based on symptoms which, as you note, may be viewed through dirty windows.. I pray tor the grace to see through clean windows. Thanks. Jim ]
I'm interested in the installation size of Windows 10 when it has been installed on an existing, clean, Windows 7 or Windows 8 installation. By "clean" I mean only a standard non-OEM OS and critical drivers, and updates.
This is for a clean install onto a new disk, keeping nothing. You are braver than I am to try an upgrade. My previous Win 7 install had suffered from windows rot (degeneration of the registry over the years) so needed blasting anyway.
* For me, this includes deleting all unnecessary pre-installed programs (for instance games, OneDrive, Weather, News, etc.), getting the newest updates, and running Window's Disk Clean-Up tool afterwards.
Depending on the size of the drive, after Disk Cleanup, and the size and number of System Restore Points, you can expect a footprint of from around 22gig to as large as 35 gig. This is assuming the Documents folder and Pictures folder do not hold much data.
I have this thing for clean windows. I love them, which means I have an opposite and equal dislike for dirty windows. And when I say clean windows, I mean the kind of clean that makes windows sparkle like diamonds in the morning sun.
One last thing: Dry cleaning windows is not the same as full-on window washing, which I do recommend at least once a year. Dry cleaning is a maintenance method, a stop-gap effort to keep windows looking sharp between those big washings!d
I ordered the microfiber mitt and used it to wash my windows and they turned out great. They need more then just dusting so I used a mixture of rubbing alcohol, water and few drops of Dawn in a spray bottle. Love the mitt! Thank you!
I think I saw in the questions section of amazon that these are manufactured in China. I am trying to buy products made closer to home. Can you recommend something made in the US?
Always a fan,
Brenda
Perfect for dusting any surface. I wash it in a bucket of hot water with a tiny bit of Blue Dawn; rinse completely, then hang to air dry. Never in the washer/dryer and never with any softener products.
I have Bitdefender Antivirus Plus on my laptop, and need to do a clean reinstall of Windows 10 Home, which means I'll have to reinstall Bitdefender after the Windows reinstall. Is there anything I need to do with Bitdefender before my hard drive gets cleaned - such as uninstalling Bitdefender first - so that I won't have any issues when trying to download Bitdefender again after the Windows 10 install?
I've written before about my nostalgia for the Windows XP- or Windows 7-era "clean install," when you could substantially improve any given pre-made PC merely by taking an official direct-from-Microsoft Windows install disk and blowing away the factory install, ridding yourself of 60-day antivirus trials, WildTangent games, outdated drivers, and whatever other software your PC maker threw on it to help subsidize its cost.
I frequently write about Windows, Edge, and other Microsoft-adjacent technologies as part of my day job, and I sign into my daily-use PCs with a Microsoft account, so my usage patterns may be atypical for many Ars Technica readers. But for anyone who uses Windows, Edge, or both, I thought it might be useful to detail what I'm doing to clean up a clean install of Windows, minimizing (if not totally eliminating) the number of annoying notifications, Microsoft services, and unasked-for apps that we have to deal with.
The most contentious part of Windows 11's setup process relative to earlier Windows versions is that it mandates Microsoft account sign-in, with none of the readily apparent "limited account" fallbacks that existed in Windows 10. As of Windows 11 22H2, that's true of both the Home and Pro editions.
