Hi,

A new version of CHAV which incorporates changes over the past ~ 12 months is available.

* Needs gcc > 4.6 to compile

* There is a new tool and a new option in process_acis_data, "Au gain adjustment". I've been noticing the ACIS gains fluctuations by ~ +-0.5% from obsid to obsid, especially in ACIS-I0 and I2. This new tool will measure the gain in your obsid using the location of the Au background lines and adjust photon energies accordingly.

* A new set of CAL data, including time-dependent QEU (essential for ACIS-S) and a new contamination file, matching what's in CAIO
As before, tgain's should be obtained separately from http://hea-www/~alexey/CHAV/tgain/

* To use time-dependent QEU, you need to point to a correct file in your par.file. To facilitate the process, there's a new script, select_chav_cal, which can be called as
select_chav_cal qeu @par.file

and it will print the line you need to put into par.file before you @include best_cal.par

* A new best_cal.par, version 9, pointing to an updated contamination file.

http://hea-www.cfa.harvard.edu/~alexey/CHAV/chav.tar.gz   -- source code tar ball (recall that you still need 32-bit CIAO libraries)
http://hea-www.cfa.harvard.edu/~alexey/CHAV/acisbg.tar.gz -- source source for Maxim's background and flare detection tools
http://hea-www.cfa.harvard.edu/~alexey/CHAV/chav-macosx.zip  -- self-contained Mac binary distro, you should be able to unpack and run it.

If you've compiled CHAV before, please save and reuse chconfig and bgconfig files adjusted for your location
