Why am i getting the 'doesn't meet the min specs' message on a brand new Alienware laptop with Nvidia RTX 3080 , i9 , 32MGB RAM MACHINE???? I am trying to us the Link cable from Oculus with myu Quest 2 and it shows that message and has horrible performance inside the VR. I have included my port diagram and have forced to use RTX3080 card where ever i can find that setting. I have tried every usb c port i could try. Any suggestions.

Edit: I fixed my issue, look for my other reply for the solution.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I just got a beast X17 with RTX 3080 and i9 and it runs my Quest 2 via Link at about 2 fps for even super-efficient non-intensive games lol!

Hey @MooduVoodu we see you were having an issue connecting your Quest 2 to your laptop. While the majority of your specs do meet the minimum requirements, it looks like your RAM could be the cause of this issue.

The minimum requirements for Oculus link to work properly is 8 GB+ of RAM. You can find all the minimum requirements on our public support site. We hope this helped shed some light on the situation for you and others.

Since Oculus support sucks, I'll try and help you out lol! I love how the Oculus Support thought you actually meant 32MB... I mean you obviously meant 32GB! LOL! I had the same message/issue on my new X17 that is close to your same specks, only I have an i7 instead of your i9. I could launch VR stuff but was only getting like 2 FPS. If you turn internet off before you launch any VR it seems to fix the issue. The real bug can be found here.

Virtual Reality (VR) Games May Fail to Run on Multiple Computers With Intel 11th Generation CPU De...

Hopefully this help you or someone else who reads this, because I have been messing around for a while now trying to figure this shiz out haha!

Note: Oculus App still thinks my computer is under Speck with the message... but I can play any Desktop VR game with zero lag or issues, and Steam VR Performance test has me in the top tier range for VR performance... so I think Oculus App just has some bad code issues or something.

Alienware 17 r3 laptop, internal speakers work fine, headphone jack(s) seem to be ignored, so I can't get sound to an external speaker. (The Alienware has a second "microphone" jack, which apparently can double as another headphone jack.) Also: I've got it dual-booted to Windows 10, and the headphones work fine under Windows.

I saw that another user had essentially the same problem Ubuntu 15.10 Headphones No Sound but it doesn't seem to have been resolved. My system shows only small variations from the original bug report, so it's surely the same issue.

A.If it is the i915 Guc issue, no solution yet since i already tried to update the latest firmware from intel (kernel 4.3.3) but still 'firmware-4.bin'not found issue exists. If it is the ssd not found issue, try to add 'nvme' to: /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and run 'update-initramfs -a'(kernel 4.4.0)

Q.Could not mount!!!Ubuntu will freeze when back to unity login screen because of ssd detached from system i think. Very annoying issue since i have to move my laptop with lid open or choose 'do nothing' option in power setting.

A.No solution yet.I am now running ubuntu 16.04 daily build and 4.4 kernel but still no sound from my headphones. In about kernel 4.4 rc6 diff,See line 772: _ca0132.cIt seems like this issue is marked not urgent or no quick solution yet since no driver source code is provided by Creative.Hopes anyone could contact Creative to help fix this issue.

It didn't work out of the box, even after fiddling with system settings. It was detected, but when I changed voice to default, I got still sound from laptop. I tried changing order of audio device loading (USB Device first), still no result.

It turned out all I needed to do was to open pavucontrol (install it if you don't have it) and set sound to USB Audio Device. It has to be done for all audio programs separately (firefox, spotify, audacity, etc.). After that, plugging in headphones or external speakers causes output to be switched automatically to them.

Karly's solution did the trick. I too have an aliens 17 R3 with ubuntu 16.04 4.4.0-59-generic kernal i have been waiting for a fix for too long. The ubuntu Audio development team has updated the pulse audio (thank god). i am going to elaborate Karly's solution step by step.

When I choose other device in alsamixer then default, namely HDA Intel PCH, my 'HP/Speaker Auto Detect' is always off. I can turn it on by pressing M, but that doesn't help. The only reaction is that when pluging speakers/headphones to one of the jacks, sound in internal speakers goes off, but speakers/headphones are silent. On default setting nothing happens when using jacks.

However I was able to find solution for bad default sound quality. In windows sound was MUCH better then in linux where music was like from a can, just horrible. In case someone wanted to fix that as well, here is the solution (read through the end of the topic):

Alienware gaming laptops have been top tier for years now, but other brands have caught up. As it stands, Alienware is an expensive option with configurations (particularly of the more premium X-Series) often costing far more than cheaper machines. However, the engineering and build quality of these machines is among the best in the business. Whether or not Alienware is the best brand for you comes down to your budget and how you want to use your machine. For portability? No, Alienware isn't the best. For a static rig designed for raw power? This could be the right brand for you.

At first glance, Alienware laptops might seem overpriced - you'd be justified in calling them the 'Apple' of gaming. However, they earn that price tag with accessibility, ease-of-use, and smart design that sets them apart from other manufacturers.

Alongside fierce technical capabilities that allow them to run today's games at their best, Alienware gaming laptops come ready-made and good to go, without a thoughtful design in both engineering and aesthetic.

Happily, Alienware is keen to make sure there's something to suit your budget as well. The official website lists a variety of builds with different costs, allowing you to pick and choose what you want. And if you decide you should have opted for more power down the line? It's often easy enough to open the case and upgrade your rig yourself.

The best Alienware gaming laptops offer some incredible power, but they can be pretty pricey. Outside of sales (and we do see a lot of sales) new releases can climb well into high-end ranges, especially once you start throwing RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 graphics cards around. However, compared to the rest of the market, the value proposition in these rigs can often outweigh their higher prices. They remain popular among PC players for good reason, with a solid quality build and excellent engineering.

To help break the choice down a little, we've rounded up a shortlist of all the best Alienware laptops available right now. Based on our own testing, and the components up for grabs in each model, this list is compiled from both hands-on experience and price-checking competitors for value for money. These are some of the best gaming laptops on the market, especially in their upper configurations.
