Subject: Temporary Cancellation of Reservations
To: GG Events <eve...@guardiangames.com>

Hi Guardian friends.

Due to public safety concerns to decrease the spread of COVID-19, we are canceling all in-store events, tournaments, and reservations starting today Monday, March 16th through the end of the month, Tuesday, March 31st. This means we will not host any events, nor will we have table space available for people to gather in the store. The Critical Sip bar and demo game library are also closed during this time.

Any events you have scheduled until the end of the month are canceled. We are only canceling events through the end of the month at the moment If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call the store.

Thank you for your understanding.

This was not unexpected, and I'd already planned not to be there this coming Sunday.

Has anyone thought about Tabletop Simulator at all?  I posted a link to a Champions and Hero System mod for it.  (Tabletop Simulator is exactly what it sounds like; a 3d physics engine optimized for simulating game play of tabletop games.)

I've had a Fantasy Grounds license for a while, but never really used it (due to networking and firewall issues).  I don't have a webcam, either.

I did pick up the new Fantasy Grounds Unity (online vs home computer), which is in Beta.  Eventually, I'll look into that.

Online is intriguing.  Not much support for Hero, but I'll have a look at it.

 - Chris

P.S.  I went by Guardian Games this afternoon, and it's weird (like all the other stores).  All of the Magic tables are gone, leaving a large empty space behind the retail area.  All the tables are folded and lying in the Critical Sip, so no going in there, either.  They did mention they plan to keep their retail section open; just no one is allowed to play there.  Lots of room to walk about now.

Thank hou for passing that out Chris!

We live in wild times, but this too shall pass.  Keep yourselves and your immune systems well.  I'll anticipate seeing you all on the 5th for now pending discussion as we approach next month.  If this TTS seems like a viable option for everyone maybe we do that next time.  I'll do my best to give it a perusal as time presents itself this week.

Thanks all!

How is everyone doing?  Do you all have the supplies you need?  Things going well in the house?

I'm going to go crazy in a few days.
I feel like this is a never ending hurricane only you don't see the destruction it leaves in it's path.

Working from home and not being able to go out is going to drive me nuts.
Brandin still has to work at his office which sucks so if he comes in contact with someone I'm for sure going to get it.

How have you been?

We're good here.  We did our big grocery shopping trip last Thursday night and it was quiet.  I'm working from home today, which for me realistically is checking my laptop every half hour or so.

LOL, I'm fine.  You know, you can and are encouraged to go outside.  It's just many businesses are closed.  You can take a walk, have lunch with Brandin, or just go through the drive thru.

You can even see other people, just maintain social distancing.  If you want to visit GG, they are open.

That's what you get for being an EXTROVERT, pal!

I, on the other hand, live alone and can--and often have--gone days without interacting with anyone else.

I'm at work at OHSU today, but it's my only day this week--I worked from home yesterday, and will for the rest of the week (and every week for as long as this goes on). I downloaded the Hero Mod for TableTop Simulator on Steam last night, and I'm going to check out Roll20 as well. Don't know if I'll actually play anything with them, but it's worth looking into.

Otherwise, I'll just watch tv, surf the net, and work on my games.

Of course there is always Google Hangouts.  Everyone can log in and talk, and the GM can project the screen/map.

Looks to be a nice positive happy game, with lots of player collaboration opportunities.  I also think it has crunchy enough rules to pacify John. 😛

Just got a reminder that it is almost game time.

In lieu of that, I wanted to check in and see how everyone was doing?

I'm fine.  Working from home normal hours, which is a challenge due to many distractions, especially the kitchen! : )  We have a large backyard which is bordered by a family we are friends with.  They have kids about the same age as Kaitlynn, so the whole area is a large sanctuary zone.  We also have one of Kaitlynn's friends staying over on a longer-term basis, so we know where she's been :P

Otherwise, I purchased a few Star Trek Adventures books before the sequestration, and I'm stealing a little time to look through those and get my RP mojo back.  Oh, and I'm also traipsing through Skyrim.

How are you doing?  What's your life look like, now?  I still need to check out that table top game Chris mentioned.

We're all doing well at Casa Goodwin.  Well supplied, good spirits, no symptoms so far.  I worked from home the past week (first time ever for me) with short trips into work to take care of hands-on needs; I work at Intel so that does come up from time to time.  I anticipate that Intel could be closed starting tomorrow, so the "work" part of "work from home" may not happen.  We'll see.

I haven't actually pulled up Tabletop Simulator myself in quite a while, and haven't checked out the Champions mod yet.  My son has sort of taken over my computer, even though he now has his own.  I need to get it back from him.

Stay safe and healthy, everyone!

I'm good. Worked from home 4 days last week, starting this week I'm working from home 5 days a week. Next time I go into the office will be April 9th, for one day. My kitchen is fully stocked, so I'm ready to Shelter In Place (tm).

I'm kinda surprised nobody suggested an alternative gaming event today.

I've been doing a lot of work on my always-in-prep Traveller game (though now that I've decided to stick to original Traveller, not Traveller Hero, or GURPS Traveller or anything else) it's going a lot faster. One of these days....

I'm not sure my Hudson City game will happen next week, if we get locked down as I'm told is going to happen tomorrow. We'll see.

I downloaded TTS, but haven't done much with it yet. Also looked at Roll20. Same story.

I've been mildly sniffly and tired but the growing pollen count and 50-60 hour work weeks could account for that.  Having lots of time this weekend with the kiddos and fam, which is definitely nice.

I'm glad to hear from everyone!

Ok kids, the Oregon Governor has issue the lock down order.

As of midnight, all of the game stores, bookstores, music stores, etc will be closed until further notice.  If you want to get anything for the lock out period, today is the day.  Tomorrow, your choice is Amazon : )

Good luck and stay safe!

Well, it's official. I'm under house arrest, with the rest of Oregon. No trips anywhere, except for the grocery or drug store if necessary.

Also, the HUDSON CITY campaign is officially on hiatus until this is over. Unless we can figure out a way to play online, anyhow.

Here is a video from Tim Poole reading a report from ProPublica that outlines a medical worker's account of dealing with patients with Covid-19.

It's pretty stunning to listen to.

Yeah, its actually terrible, but that's why we are hunkered down.  Without the ventilators, I wonder what the mortality rate would actually look like.

Kind of makes you more fearful of Pestilence, huh?

I have a new video card on its way to me to try out Tabletop Simulator with.  My old one from 2012 has the fan kick into high gear when I run TTS.  I should have the new card by Friday.

Hi Guys.

FYI, Tabletop Simulator is on sale at Steam for $10.

Have a look and if you are thinking about it, this may be a good time to get it.

John tried it briefly but it messed his system up so he refunded it (had to act quickly to make their refund window).

I have upgraded my system (additional RAM and SSD) and it's now usable on my otherwise 2012 vintage PC.

I already bought the 4-pack once and it won't let me buy another.  I've already given three of those away, sadly.

(I'm a huge sucker for 3d dioramas, and TTS somewhat scratches that itch for me, making me loath to give up on it.)

Sorry to hear about John's system.  I did re-pick up the license, since it's only $10 now.

I got:

* A more modern video card
* 16 GB of RAM
* A 500 GB SSD

I was running my OS off of a slow old school spinning drive.  (A SSD is the best upgrade you can use to speed your system up.)

Ok, now I'm gonna ask for specifics 😁

Also of note for everyone, I have a Fantasy Grounds Unity Ultimate license.  I had an FG Classic Ultimate and upgraded during their Kickstarter.  Unity is supposed to be fully online.  There was a guy working on porting in Hero System into FG Classic, and he's waiting until the bugs settle on Unity to try again (if demand is high enough).

However, there are a lot of other games on there (like Traveller, Mark 😜).  Just say'in...

An Ultimate license will allow be to host (not required to be GM, though) and anyone else can join via the free Demo license.  Go have a look.

LOL.  😂  My Amazon list of the items I bought is https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/12WOSAYQB9ZUW?ref_=wl_share

Caveats:  I already have the stuff on that list, so don't buy any of it for me.  Check your computer's specs before buying any of it for yourself.
