I'm going to delete the old Gotham post as we had multiple interchanging games in it and will post all the old stuff here.

Gotham City

The clear sky is the perfect backdrop for a normal night in Gotham City tonight. Crowded pavements surround every skyscraper filled with the hustle and bustle of people hurrying on their way just out of work. The air is alive with talking, freshly cooked food from the stalls and carbon monoxide produced by the masses of taxis in the crammed streets. Car horns and other city noises prevent people from sleep this early in the evening.

Most of the masses are all on cell phones obviously of the neon signs and giant billboards illuminating the streets attempting to catch their attention to go into a bar or nightclubs. The streets stay busy but the underground high-capacity public transportation system keeps people quickly moving to their destinations throughout the city and even under the river. The five bridges that lead into the city are jammed with cars. Four ferries along the river carry over passengers that did not want to sit in the rush hour traffic.

This concrete jungle houses over 15 million. The skyscrapers that reach into the heavens are of all types of varies architecture. A police blimp floats over the city with lights casting down on the city in search for something to go wrong. The streets seem to match this style from old style cars traveling the roads along with the most modern sports car. Even phone booths are scattered along the main city street.

Central Park is the only greenery in the area, nestled in the center of the city like an oasis in the blistering desert; Joggers gently weave in and out of obstacles such as people dawdling and inanimate objects. A lions’ roar can be heard on occasion, as the zoo is located in the northwest part of the park.

Geography of the city – Gotham is located in the northern part of New York (around the city of Ogdensburg). The city is surrounded by a river called Gotham River. There is a bay off to the south called Gotham Bay. The large Ontario Lake can be accessed by these waterways. Canada is just north over the large St Laurence River.

Residents/agencies and businesses –

Mayor Hamilton Hill runs Gotham

Commissioner James Gordon runs the GCPD

Wayne Tech Industries

Sports teams – baseball: Gotham Knights and Gotham Griffins. Basketball: Gotham Guardsmen. Football: Gotham WIldcats. Ice hockey: Gotham Blades.

Longshore Syndicate

Pumpkin Gang

McGilly Point

University Heights

Ace Chemical Processing Inc.

Amusement Mile – amusement park located near the river walk.

Blackgate Penitentiary – city’s main prison located on Blackgate Isle.

The Bowery – small inner district ridden with crime, homelessness, and prostitution

Brentwood Academy – private run high school

The Clocktower – located in central Gotham.

Crime Alley – Dangerous crime infested area

Diamond District – a district run by gangs

East End – underdeveloped part of Gotham filled with poverty, crime, prostitution, and circulation of illegal drugs.

Fashion District

Financial District

Gotham County High School

Gotham Docks

Gotham University

Gotham Square – central to Gotham city (think of time square)

Grand Avenue – theatre district

Park Row – courthouse and other public buildings are located here

The Statue of Justice - Also known as "Lady Gotham," this is a monument situated off shore of the city. The figure has a blindfold over her eyes, and a sword and scales in her outstretched hands.

Toxic Acres – An abandoned neighborhood of built houses, unsuitable for habitation due to its proximity to a toxic waste dump. To prevent illness, those entering or staying in the area need to use gas masks.

Batman – No evidence of this “person” but there are rumors.

Character design – 300 points. 50 points disadvantages/complications – 20 points must be linked in some way to Gotham (sample: NPC – Gotham meter maid or Hunted by Black Mask Gang or Dependence on Gotham Beer etc…)

There is no Active point cap.

The following powers/builds cannot be used for characters – Followers, any type of variable power pool, mega-scale, or movement that can work in another environment.

Multipower will be limited to just 5 powers under 1 power pool.

Normal character maximum will be in effect

Simple gear such as cell phones, a flashlight, a motorcycle, or possible a handgun (if it fits your character concept) will not cost points.

You must choose one of the following 6 that describe your character background:

  • Normal

  • Mutant (born that way)

  • Magic

  • Alien

  • Technological

  • Genetic altered (modified)

Gotham News -
After a days worth of work (or whatever your character would be doing) you sit down in front of a TV. Flip on the news to find the following stories -

"After 10 months of work Stronghold is now an operational super-villain facility in New Mexico. As Blackgate was the strongest penitentiary on the east coast we have learned that several prisoners will now be transferred out into Stronghold. We will keep you informed once we find out which criminals will be transferred. Back to you Charles"
The scene changes back into the studio with both anchors Charles Whiteman and Megan Rogers "Thanks for the great report Vicki now over to the weather with Mayte Carranco" Charles says.
Mayte stands with a slight bend in her knees, hands clasping what appears to be a remote control. She walks back and forth across the stage gesturing to the screen behind her when the visuals change from cloud to snow.  "Today is going to be another cold cloudy day for Gotham. We are expecting snow within the next 24 hours. This will impact the roads during rush hour at 5 tomorrow. Please plan accordingly. The next clear day we are expecting to see will be next week on Tuesday with it warming up into the upper 30s. Gotham's crew is already preparing the streets for the storm to hit with salt and gravel." She then blows a kiss off to the camera. "Thanks for keeping our roads safe DOT"
"I don't want to be caught in that tomorrow, I might just call out sick" Megan says jokingly as the camera pans over to her. "Thanks for the warning of more winter to come".
"Now over to a special on the scene reporter Ollie"
The camera switches over to outside Wayne Tech where reporters are gathered around. Bruce is seen at the podium "I would like to announce our new hybrid car engine battery. This will advance the current hybrid engines to increase its efficiency by 30%."
"Mr Wayne will this car battery be manufactured by your plant, if so what sort of impact will it have on the environment?" a reporter yells out.
"We will be manufacturing it but only the components. These components will be built within our Tech building which has opened up 40 new jobs.  The battery is more eco friendly than the current ones used today"
"Mr Wayne we have reports that a Batman has been recently sighted running around Gotham, near this very building. Is this some type of suit you are testing?"
Bruce chuckles a bit "If you are implying I'm dressing up as the Batman I can tell you I'm not. It is a comic book that happens to reference Gotham and my family. As you all know my parents did not get killed in a murder and I definitely don't have a huge 'Batcave' under my house. Now if there are not more serious questions I need to be on my way"
"There you have it, a new battery to come out from Wayne Tech with a few more jobs out there for Gotham. Back to you Charles and Megan"
The camera moves back to the studio "Wouldn't that be something, if the richest playboy in Gotham was really this comic book Batman" Charles says. Megan smiles "He does match the comic book, I can't see why he isn't the Batman" They both laugh. "speaking of caped heroes we have a special report from Susan Smith"
A video of a streak of light crosses the sky of the Upper West Side.
"Like most of the city’s self-proclaimed “protectors”, no one knows who she is or what her motivations are. I say she, as the only indication of this person’s identity is a female shaped body and soft generic facial features made of pure light. In fact, no one knows much about this Radiant Ranger, other than her exploits over the past eleven months. However within this time, she has been able to rack up an impressive cadre of adversaries.Three months ago, she confronted drug dealers and put them out of commission. It is believed that they are part of the Longshore Syndicate which is located within the borough’s. These criminal cases are still pending in the Gotham court system. Early in her career, she faced down the Pumpkin Gang near Central Park, a local group of toughs that continuously threatened citizens of the Upper West Side. The area became a more pleasant and safe place to be, and the group of ruffians have not been heard from since, although sources indicate the group was not totally destroyed and vow revenge for their setbacks."
More recently, the vigilante of light fought the dreaded villain Darkest Night to a standstill. Witnesses say the luminous protector almost perished in the initial confrontation with the master of darkness and nightmares, but after several pitched battles, reported in last week’s editions, the Radiant Ranger finally
got the best of the criminal, weakening him to the point where GCPD could make the arrest. Lieutenant Tim Aubry said at the time, “We do have the Darkest Night within custody but we have no knowledge of this flying vigilante"
"What of these other supernatural things within our city such as ghost walking through walls scaring our children in the middle of the night?" A clip of a security camera plays with a man wearing an old style police outfit dripping of rain water walking right through a wall.
"Or these kids that think they can be part of this vigilante"
another clip clearly made from a phone camera is played which looks like a teen wearing a green scuba suit covering his head in a fetal position being kicked by several gang members as a small girl runs away crying.
"What about the person that "surfs" the beach without any waves"
A clip is played with what looks like a person made of silver ridding the river during the summer. Beach goers watch from the sand when he comes in close and pushes water 10 feet onto shore splashing everyone. People can be heard yelling at him as they dry out their electronics on their towels.
"During that same summer we had the whole blizzard in a 2 block radius in downtown started by what appears to be another mutant"
A news report shows a man dressed all in white standing on the edge of one of the buildings in downtown holding his arms up with blue rays firing off his hands into the sky.
"Questions remain: are these people a threat to the city as the criminals they possibly fight? Do the flying ones need approval from the FAA? Should vigilantism be allowed to continue? If so, at what cost? What responsibility should Gotham bear if these activities cause damage to public and private property, as it has in the past? Are these people an asset or a problem?"
The camera goes back to the studio "Those are all very good questions for Gotham Susan" Megan says.
Charles then chimes in "I understand we have a breaking story on the south east side of downtown. Over to you Terry"
"I am on the scene at the edge of Toxic Acres" In the background there is police tap blocking off a section with hazmat dressed men walking away with a stretcher with a body covered on top of it. "Another death has occurred here. Police are warning citizen as they have in the past not to enter Toxic Acres as it is harmful to be within the area for any period of time. The latest person to fall victim to this area is unknown at this time but it is believed that he wandered past the warning signs into this hazard zone."
"Lt. Jones, can you tell us about what happened here?" Terry puts his mic to one of the police officers
"We believe this person walked into the area and was found dead by a cyclist who saw him from a distance"
"And are there any plans to block this area off more so this doesn't happen again?" Terry asks.
"We have placed warning signs throughout the area the city is also now planning on putting up a fence to stop people from walking within the area"
Terry pulls back the mic "And when will this area be clean again for use"
"I'm not sure on that, you will need to talk to the mayor on that"
The camera then pans over to the ambulance driving away.
"Another citizen dies at the hand of toxic acres back to you Charles and Megan."
"Well that is all we have time for today Gotham. See you again tonight for our 11 news broadcast"

Fun replies to the news -
(Chris)
Older Male voice: "Just what Gotham needs, more kooks. Why don't they get a job, for Christ's sake."

Older Female voice: "Well, I think that Wayne fellow would make a nice superhero.  At least he has the right demeanor."

Older Male Voice:" "Bah, kooks I say!  Nothin but trouble brewin'.  Hopefully the police get em off the street before they hurt someone."

Older Female Voice: "Well, it might be nice to have someone looking out for the little guy for a change.  This city used to be nice, remember?  We used to go to the park, and usually we only got mugged between 123rd and Elm."

Older Male Voice : "Yeah I remember.  Forgetaboutem, Jeopardy is coming on."

( So, we have a person clad in silver, a person clad in white, and a person clad in light, offset by a gray gumshoe ghost and someone that is toxic.  I was going to say that the term Silver, White, Light has a nice ring to it, but we would need to add Gray Glow...

The Gray Glowing Silver White Lights? LOL!  )

(Mark)
The Radiant Ranger
The Human Doorstop (guy in green, getting beaten up)
Sponge Man (guy dripping with water)
Silver Surfer (silver guy surfing on the river)
Blizzard (guy in white who creates, uh, blizzards)
Toxic Avenger (not actually seen, but hinted at)

And it looks like our first adventure will take place in a snowstorm!

(me)
Don't forget Bruce Wayne as Batman.
The Gray Bat Glowing Silver White Lights
You should also google the weather girls name with "weather" also in the search term.
I think the Old man forget his glasses while watching the weather again :P

Just because something came in over the news does not mean it's a PC. Some or all of what is listed in the news may not have anything to do with any of you.

It is possible I have an additional player whom might want to play but probably won't be able to play for our next game session. Still waiting on confirmation.

(Mark)
"Idiots," Victor said. "Bruce Wayne as Batman? That preening metrosexual? You know all those women he chases are just for show. Besides, everybody knows Batman is really Harvey Dent!"

The other residents of the nursing home ignored Victor's outburst, just as they ignored most of them.

"I don't know what these kids today are thinking, running around in silly costumes. In my day we wore *real* uniforms. I was a Marine! I saw *real* heroes at Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal!"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Walt said.

"That stupid punk in the green leotard--"

"I think that was a scuba suit," Walt said.

"Whatever. Stupid punk was getting his ass kicked. Probably got brain damage now. And that showoff on the river. What's his story? He's just racing up and down the river making a spectacle of himself, and splashing everyone in the process. How's that helping anyone? At least the punk in the green outfit is *trying* to fight crime!"

Walt had turned away from his game of checkers. Victor was on a roll now, and that was more entertaining. "What about the weather guy?"

"Weather guy? You need your eyes checked, Walt? That weather girl is stacked! If I were forty years younger--"

"She'd still be too much woman for you!" Walt scoffed.

Victor scowled at him, then grinned. "Yeah, probably. But a man can dream."

"Besides," Walt said, "I mean the guy who created that blizzard last summer."

"Mr. Freeze? What about him? 'Ooooh, I can create a blizzard. Give me a six-hour headstart and I can stop a getaway car!'" Victor rolled his eyes. "Please."

"And the drip? The guy who walks thru walls?"

"He dresses like the cops from when I was kid. I'll tell you," Victor said, "we could use more cops like those! They didn't take any guff from punks back in those days! It was 'yes sir' and 'no sir' or you got a rap in the mouth."

"Or a hickory shampoo," Walt added. "Right?"

"Eh, they went too far sometimes," Victor admitted. "But at least they got respect. Not like today. And another thing...."

(Chris)
Yeah, that's what I saw.  We have:

Silver Surfer
Toxic Avenger
Iceman/Frozone
Dazzler
and... The Shadow!

Awesome crew, if not a bit cliche, no?

P.S.  I hope Scuba Steve isn't a PC...  LOL!

(Me)
That truly captures the veterans of that era and the way they would think.
Now that you all have captured that age category now to go onto the newer generation.

"Hey Bobby check out this youtube feed that just got posted."
The cell phone loads up the news on it.
"Check out the rack on the weather girl." Anthony says.
"Watch what is just after her" Johnny says with Bobby retort "I'll be right after her."
"If I was Bruce I would put on that Batman outfit and sneak right into her bedroom" Anthony chimes in.
The Bruce Wayne story ends and continues onto the "supers" running rampant.
"I think I saw her flying a few nights ago in the sky when I was coming home from your place" Bobby says.
"No way you saw that, the Radiant Ranger is suppose to fly faster than light" Anthony says as he knows Bobby is always telling stories.
"Oh sh*t that's the guy that was protecting my friends little sister, my friend sister said she was about to be attacked when that Scuba Steve wannbe super jumped in. Even though he got his ass kicked he's doing a better job than that silver dipsh*t in the river"
"You saw him?"
"Yeah I was there one time all he does is showoff, when he finally came in he wouldn't even bother acknowledging me. Was more interested in his own squad."
"I think this whole ghost thing is just a play on that new show being filming here in Gotham, called Ghost Hunters or something like that"
"Hey Bobby, remember last summer when it snowed in downtown. Your older brother took us out in tow by rope with his snowmobile with us all on snowboards down there? Let me find that video." He shuts off the news video feed to find last summers snow experience in downtown.

Seen on Tumblr: Batman is an Addams

Villains in Addams Family movies go to really unnecessary lengths to defraud them of the family fortune. These people just give it away on whims all the time. If I just walked into the house and started wearing their clothes and spending their money, they wold start introducing me as Cousin Intruder and forget there was ever a time I didn’t live with them.

Gomez in particular would enjoy your boldness, Cousin Intruder.

Oh shit.

The Addams family loves and greets every person entering one of their homes.

The Addams family adopted or married every person wishing to stay.

This is why the Addams family is full of freaks.

Of course.

So what we’re saying is, tracing the Addams’ geneology is damn near impossible and it’s just as likely that no living member of the family is actually a blood relative of the people who originally held the family name?

What I’m hearing is that Batman is actually an Addams.

He most certainly is

I mean, considering if you look at it in the light of a different story, the near (actual, factual) homicidal level of bond and love the Addams have for each other, the idea that they’re all adopted, the way that Bruce is often portrayed as a bit of an aloof, smarmy smarm in private, the possibility that young Bruce might not be wholly appreciative of his extended family’s eccentricities, of which his parents are the mildest of the bunch, the idea that those two parents are (distantly) Addams’ and get gunned down, well.

[Gomez]: I came, I came as soon as I heard

[Bruce]: I…I told you never to come back, I said, I said you were weird

[Gomez]: Please, my boy, to compliment me when you are so wracked with grief. *clutching hug* Dear Thomas, dear Martha, so full of life…

[Bruce]: *extricating* They….they fell in front of me…while he laughed…with mother’s pearls…

[Gomez]: The fiend! This dishonor cannot stand!

[Bruce]: And I felt….I felt it well up inside me, a black blood welling up…

[Gomez]: Yes, dear boy…

[Bruce]: I….will be vengeance….

[Gomez]: Yes….

[Bruce]: I…I will be the night!

[Gomez]: Yes!

[Bruce]: I….I am an Addams!

[Gomez]: YES!

[Bruce]: I. AM. BATMAN. *lightning, thunder*

[Gomez]: YES, YES!!! My boy, the rivers will run red with wonderful blood!

[Alfred]: *sigh* I’ll put the tea on and grab the foils then, shall I, sirs?

I AM DECLARING THIS CANON.

HEADCANON ACCEPTED

@copperbadge

I mean when you think about it, if Bruce Wayne is an Addams, everything he does makes senseGotham makes sense. Damian Wayne, trained vegetarian assassin, makes more sense if he’s an Addams.

Now that we have accepted this revelation, I want you all to think about a hypothetical situation in which Bruce brings Superman and Wonder Woman to meet the Addamses.

That would be pretty straightforward:

Clark: Well, this explains pretty much everything. A lot more than ‘bat flies through window’, to be honest…

[Wednesday walks up to Diana, whispers in her ear]

Diana: You’ll have to ask your parents if–

Wednesday: They’ll say yes. Trust me.

Diana: Then you may certainly spend a semester in Themyscira–

Wednesday: How about a year?

Diana: –a semester, and we’ll see how it goes.

[Wednesday whispers in Diana’s ear again]

Diana: Yes, we do have black armor.

Clark: Say, does someone want to become an Amazon?

Wednesday: Someone will become an Amazon.

Clark: I know from talking to Diana that it’s not easy–

Wednesday: Some of my classmates and I declared war on Thanksgiving once.

[pause]

We won.

[pause]

I have video.

Clark: …well alright then.

[later, Wednesday apprentices with Uncle Bruce, and her costume lets her braids hang out.]

Please do not bother the Addams family. They keep to themselves along the graveyard in a nice mansion.
Just because they think differently doesn't mean they might be Batman. We all know who the real Batman is - Bruce Wayne.

I changed it up Chris. Take a look and tell me what you think.

Gotham map - if you want to know the distances from point A to point B on the map each 1mm is 2 miles (or for those champion rules 1 mm = 3,219 hexes)
The island is still 8 miles wide (not including Blackgate) but if you measure from where River walk is to the most northern tip it would be 26 miles (I was off by about 4 miles on my original guesstimate).

For our next game session bring d12's. We will use them for our speeds so it will add some flavor to the combat.
Rules: For each speed you have you will roll 1d12. If you roll the same number that action gets bumped up to the next phase.
Example of a 4 speed: a roll of a 2, 4, 4 and 8 - you would go on 2, 4, 5 and 8
If you happen to roll a 12 more than once you will get to go on that speed more than once.
Example of a 4 speed: a roll of a 4, 8, 12, 12 you would go on 4, 8 and twice on 12.
I believe these rules are also within the champions rulebook.

Hi John,

What is the reason for the change, and where in the rule book is it?

This seems a bit over complicated.

Let me be a little more specific with my concerns with the process.

1)  More paperwork:  At the beginning of each turn, we will need to roll the dice, and look for pairs.  If there is one, we'll need to match the paired number to our phase numbers, and if they are the same, we need to notate somewhere that we will have a phase change, and we will need to bring it up when the phase occurs.  Extra work for no real benefit.

2)  Penalizes higher Speeds:  The higher the SPD, the more chances for a match (more numbers) and a greater chance of a match (more dice rolled), with no change in the chance for a benefit (1 in 12, regardless of SPD).  Speed is expensive, and this rule offers no incentive for those who have invested a large portion of their starting CP in the stat.

3) Disadvantage to the PC:  I want to use an example for this one.  In Tyler's campaign, most of our PCs were SPD 4 (3, 6, 9, 12) and DEX 15.  The VIKI-bots were SPD 3 (4, 8, 12) and DEX 20.  If a PC rolled a pair of 3's, then their first Phase in the turn would be on Segment 4, along with the VIKI-bots.  However since the bots have a higher DEX, they would get to go first, despite the PC having a higher SPD.  Being able to act early was our only advantage in that campaign, as our foremost action was to bug out.  We may have not made it otherwise.

In all, I don't see this rule as anything but a penalty for the PCs.  This may be a good mechanic to flesh out the effects of a Complication (such as Psychological Complication: Indecisive or Hesitation, or maybe as a replacement for the current rules for Unluck), but as an overall rule, it makes it more complicated and generally penalizes the PCs.

I hope this helps.  Anyone have thoughts?

1. There is absolutely no paperwork. You have a speed of 4, you roll 4d12 and the dice sit right in front of you. Instead of looking at your character sheet every time a phase is called out you will be looking at your dice. If you roll 4 1's you just move 3 dice to read 2, 3, and 4.
2. This is occurring for both NPC's and PC's so there is no penalization as both sides equal the same chance results.
3. You are correct in what happened in Tylers game - everyone knew exactly when they would go, when the bots would go and if you could get away or not. There was absolutely no randomization for the combat other than what damage was rolled if they hit or you hit. This leaves a chance where you don't know. You might act all 4 times before they even get to go or it might be the other way around.

This rule is coming out as some characters have a varying speed and this would resolve this issue along with the chance of the unknown.

If the group really doesn't like dice rolling for combat and is looking to speed up things we could use the static damage where no damage dice are rolled just use the average damage (unless a critical hit is made then it would be max). The only dice you would need is 3d6 and that would be used to hit.
12d6 would no longer show up on your character sheet it would just be 36 Stun and 12 body (how long does it take to add up damage dice per player?)

Me personally is I am looking for some dice rolls as this is combat and what do you do in combat is you roll dice.
Also as rolling your speed is a dice roll it will fall under the token rule of you can re-roll any dice roll. Which means if you REALLY need to go early you could spend a token to re-roll your whole speed before that turn begins in hopes you act first.

Just give it a shot if you really don't like the d12 rules for one game session we can go back to the speed chart.

So the dice will replace the fixed numbers?  I'm skeptical about that. We can give it a chance, I suppose.

However, I am curious; why the change?  The normal way (with speed at a fixed time, roll to hit, and roll for damage) seems just fine.  I don't really see a need for a house rule.

When I first started champions (way back in 4th edition) we always rolled d12's so I always assumed that was how it was done.
Not until I moved up here did I use the speed chart. I really did think that the d12 speed was a rule but I can't find it anywhere (other than online with other people complaining about the same issue that I am).
Why the change? Try something new.
The games for fun and I was just trying to spice it up a bit with my previous game experience of champions.

If you have already decided you won't like this no matter what happens in the next session we just won't do the d12s as everyone needs to have fun.

We can try it for a combat to see how we like it.  It may work well, I don't know, as I haven't seen it in action.  However, I think major rule changes should be presented to the group as an option for play testing, instead of a requirement, to be sure everyone is onboard.

Just my thoughts.  I will bring the dice and give it a go in the combat that starts the session.

I'm on board with a play test.  I get the appeal.  We'll all have the same number of segments but it gives an element of realism in shaking up what exactly happens in what order.  Or at least spreads a little chance into the mix.  See you all Sunday!

Gotham News channel 8 –

“This is Barbra Binks report on the Gotham Savings and Loans Banks catastrophe. The police had barricaded off the bank during a robbery waiting on the Gotham SWAT team. During this time the police had been negotiating with the robbers inside when all of a sudden Radiant Ranger flies down from the sky demanding from the police she rush in.”

A clip of Radiant Ranger is seen leaving the police line and flying right into the doors only to bounce off of them landing on her back. She then opens the doors to the bank and gunfire is heard as she is shot and lands away from the doors back on her back.” “This is not the type of person to work past our paid police officers who have the training and know exactly how to deal with this type of situation. Instead we have this naked female rushing into gunfire putting innocent lives at stake.”

“Later during this fiasco this group of vigilantes caused a massive explosion attempting to stop these robbers in the back of the bank killing 6 of our police.” The camera pans over to the front of the bank when a large explosion is heard then smoke is seen coming from behind the bank.

“When asking Radiant Ranger about her exposed naked body her response was” The camera shows Radiant Ranger talking right into the camera saying, “The bank is getting robbed and this is the best question you have to ask me?”

“Later interviewing other vigilantes that had also caused this police death. One wearing just a mask, which calls himself the Alchemist. He caused destruction within the bank.” Through the front bank windows you see Alchemist cause the concrete floor lift up and create a dome leaving gaps within the floor around that dome “as well as while talking to us he destroyed our $ 20,000.00 camera” The camera shows Barbra speaking to Alchemist he then reaches out to the camera lens and the camera goes to static.

“When interviewing one of the hostages this is what was said” the camera clicks over to an interview of a lady stammering “I was told first if I didn’t go into the bathroom a bullet would be put through my head then while feeling somewhat safe within the bathroom two people appeared. One had fire and smoke coming out of his head and face. I was told I had to go with him. I thought for sure I was going to hell as this creature had the type of demonic feel to it. I grasped my rosary in preparation and closed my eyes. I felt the heat and fire as if hells gates had been opened up for me. The next thing I knew I was outside. I am sure this creature took me to hell and I am now on the list. This creature needs to be stopped from bringing innocent faith people to hell.”

“Several others that were on the scene also saw the person named Phantom Patrolman although no footage of this ghost creature was captured or what he was doing here.”

“We need to put a stop to these people that think just because they have some type of extraordinary powers they can just interfere with our local government practices. These misfits are going unchecked and need to be brought in by the local authorities”

Gotham news channel 7 –

“This is Susan Smith reporting for channel 7 news.” Susan Smith is seen in front of the Gotham Savings and Loans Bank “behind me is where just a short while ago a superhero group stopped a bank robber.”

“This is the Radiant Ranger breaking into the front line of fire giving a distraction while all the hostages escape” a video is played of gunshots which are heard as Radiant Ranger goes through the doors. Then appearing out of nowhere the Traveller is seen with several hostages in the middle of the street. They all run to the police line. “All hostages within the bank had been saved by this group of heroes.”

“The scene where the bank robbers escape within the back of the bank was not what they had planned.” The camera shows 2 police cars pushed to the sides along with what appears to be a blown two blown out cars. “The police had made a line to block access out of this area when 2 car bombs exploding killing 6 new recruit police offices. These officers gave their life to save the people of Gotham from allowing these killers loose.”

“Interviewing Dan Turner, a local cell phone repair person working at the IShack near the explosion this is what he had to say” a video clip is played of a man in his 30s with a beard and glasses “I saw the whole thing, this ghost like police came from the sky and jump inside the car. It looked like he was attempting to disable the bombs within it but then everything happened at once. The person known as the Alchemist pulled asphalt from the street blocking one side of the car. Then the car exploded it knocked everything off my shelves in my shop. The wall that was put up protected several police but the other side of the explosion still hit the remaining police on the other side.”

“We are still unsure who these heroes are or even if they some sort of team all we do know is that they protected Gotham by saving innocent hostage lives, all the bank robbers have been arrested and they managed to save police from an explosion.”

The camera click over to the news desk “Well thank you very much for that report Susan. The police have announced that they will be blocking 5th through 8th street in downtown for the processional funeral for these fallen police heroes. It will be occurring this Saturday at 10am. “

“Now over to our weather as it’s been extremely cold for this time of year…”

Paddy's Sports Bar.  Been around since the early 20th (maybe late 19th) Century.  Not sure who the owner is, though.  At the moment, Denny O"Neil is the head Barman.

It is possible Bill has been in here "back in the day".

Why do you think they keep inviting Radiant Ranger into the Pub? Saves on electricity. lol.

Not sure they invite her, per se.  She keeps patronizing the establishment in her civilian identity, as she likes the feel of the place and has gotten to know the denizens.

As for why The Ranger has been allowed to be there, well, she wasn't there until the Longshores started inviting supers to take out the competition.  The place is becoming a de-facto base camp for the team.

I just read all the post to this. My thoughts exactly about megascale. It works great with heroes that are the most powerful heroes in the world. They can zip around the planet to save someone in Russia and then end up in Mexico to fight off the Columbia drug lords the next min.
When you try to scale it down within just a city it isn't really needed.
Using the non-combat multiplier is an easy way to stay within a city campaign.

Now notes to the game -

When sending your scout to "check out" the villains base while everyone else sits out a mile away was a bit scary.
Now that you all know how fast everyone can travel to get somewhere really quickly (yes less than 1 min is fast but when combat starts this becomes forever) you might re-think of how far you should actually be from a possible surprise attack on the villains.
As no real death occurred the combat scene did take longer than was expected. Yes the Phantom Patrolman should really have no fears as well he's a ghost and rarely ever has any true things to worry about - he's dead. Sometimes though I'm going to setup the scene to be a group scene where all members are needed.

To Re-cap the end of the scene this last weekend:
The Mayors son was found unharmed within the building and turned into the police.
Billy the kid was hired by the daughter of the head of the Columbia mafia.
The daughter could somehow go invisible and attack all of you with her Katana. She also wore some type of ninja outfit.
The Phantom Patrolman has vanished and his cell phone was found just outside the shack.
The Daughter was killed.
Once Billy realized that the crime bosses daughter was dead he knew he was not going to get paid and offered a trade.
Once you agreed to let him go he told you the location of the HQ.
The location of the HQ is located South of Brentwood Academy.
This is about 12 miles (as the crow flies going directly over Gotham Bay) north east of your location at the junkyard.
This is about 20 miles if you take to the roads with a car.

As this is the last scene coming up and the chapter will end with a new one beginning (assuming you complete it) the CP for this will be 12 points.
You can adjust your characters with these points but it will not come into effect until after the final scene.
Remember that these 12 points can add to more powers within your multipower (beyond the cap of the 5).
Also the 12 CP does not include any  unspent tokens you might have saved up which will convert to CP's.

To be fair, the only reason this didn't work was because the primary antagonist could see Bill (probably because he was also a ghost).  I don't think we anticipated that event.  Otherwise, we planned to move in as a team.

Also, we have a mismatch in movement ability among the team.  The Alchemist is the slowest, as he can walk at normal rates, while The Phantom Patrolman moves the fastest by flying.  As a note, the Ranger's flight power max is 112m non-combat, not 464 as the sheet said.  I am working with john to boost this a little (to 160m non-combat), but she is still a bit faster than most.  Thus, we will need to come up with a plan as to how to move as a unit..right Mark? 😋

Oh, and as for Bill, he's mostly dead.  if he were all dead, we could rifle through his pockets fro small change!😁

Whoa...whoa... so, the cap was only for character creation?  We can have six powers in a multi-power framework now?  🤑

I mean, it's still pretty cheaty and mostly useful for non-combat. Even with 'no time' activation and instant reset, a GM could easily translate that the action still needs to be taken so these 1m jumps would still only happen 2 per phase. Unless the GM is just fine with powerplaying the hell out of the rules... I feel like this discussion has come up before. Pretty solid power gaming though.

As I have been having a blast running the game for 2 months I know others are in line to run a game.
I believe Mark is next with his GURPS Traveler then Chris with his Evergreen city Champions.

I am more than willing to continue to run Gotham but am unsure what type of schedule I should be on.
I do have at least two game sessions prepared but I could reduce it down to one if you all want to flip over to GURPS or you all could continue a bit deeper into the depths of Gotham for more game sessions?

Let me know what everyone thinks so I can either prepare a bit more for future Gotham or everyone can start gearing up for space travel.

I don't want to take away from Mark's game, but I would like to keep playing Gotham for a while.  maybe the rest of the year, actually.  We've only had 3 sessions, which isn't much time to develop the character and really get things moving.

However, I'm happy to abdicate to the group's needs.

I mostly agree with Chris. I am definitely excited about this whole space pirate situation but it does seem like we have plenty more to explore in Gotham and haven't really been doing it long. I'm not going to say all year, but I would lean towards staying in Gotham for now and revisiting after another reasonable story arc.

If *you* aren't enjoying running the game, then we can talk about doing something else, but otherwise I'm content to stay with Gotham for a while.

The Gotham game continues :)

If at any point someone isn't enjoying themselves please let me know and what it is you want more (or less) of in the game.
If I'm not treating your character correctly - mispronouncing your characters name, incorrect contact concept, general living area is misunderstood, or powers not being viewed the correct way - let me know.

For the next few sessions now that everyone has a good feel for Gotham I'm going to try and delve a bit more into each one of your characters individually.

Unknown to any character the following scene happens *somewhere*

Within a conference room a man sits at the head of the table. A woman’s muffled cries for help can be heard off from the side within a closet.

The man watches the phone that is sitting next to him as if to have been watching it for days.

The phone rings and he immediately picks it up. “Is it done?”

Police sirens can be heard over the phone as the man on the other ends talks to him for a brief moment.

“What do you mean they told the force to stay back!? We are paying you to make sure the job gets done not those freaks!”

More talk at the other end and the man turns white and just hangs up the phone.

His hands tremble as he dials another number.

(in Spanish) “Boss the mission was a failure and your daughter was caught in the middle of it. It was those freaks that killer her from what I was just told” His voice trembles some.

“Yes, we have the paperwork but we believe some of the ink is only in UV or IR and it won’t scan or photo correctly.”

Some more pause while the other person talks calmly at the other end.

“I will prepare the jacket and make sure that this file gets to Columbia.”

Some more talking at the other end of the phone.

“Yes sir the cameras will record and transmit everything starting now” He opens up the desk drawer and flips a switch.

“I will see you soon” and he hangs up.

The man rolls back in his chair to a silver briefcase and picks it up. He stands up and moves over to the closet opening the door. Inside is a woman with a black hood that is tied to a chair.

“Time for us to vayamos my seguro de seguridad

We could hold a "contest" for a symbol, and pick from the submission by the public... once we get that far.  We just formed a team (of sorts), so we should gel a bit before going all out... except for the theme music, as it is constant from one campaign to the next  😋

I'm into the contest idea... And now for an introduction of Erulim (Ay-R-OO-Leem)

***  Tonight on the news… ***

Barbara Binks:  “Here for channel eight news, I’m Barbara Binks.   Yet another meta-human was seen this evening literally streaking through the city.  Like a bolt of lightning, hell-bent on causing mass hysteria on I-85, this blue menace caused a pile up across the whole city and two bridges.  The supposed victims of the warehouse fire were evacuated… one through the window by a blast of air, the other complains of neck pain after being yanked out of the building with such speed, I’m surprised they even survived.”

Anonymous victim is seen vomiting and attempts to walk but merely does a sideways tumble into the arms of an EMT.

Barbara Binks:  “This blue bandit is calling himself Erulim, a supposed nod to J.R.R. Tolkien’s make believe fairy tale land, says one expert.  It literally means ‘Swift God’! I hope you’ll pardon my tongue when I say, who the hell does he think he is? Just because some bolt of lightning zapped this jerk with an adrenaline shot, we have to suffer his maniacal ego as he endangers victims of an already tense situation?  As if we didn’t have enough to worry about in this city. When will we be rid of these unsolicited vigilantes and their utter disregard for law and order!?!?” Pauses for a long sigh. “Now over to Joe Shortsleeve for the weather...”

Channel 7 News with Suze

Susan Smith:  “Well Gotham, the next time you’re in trouble, you may see a blur pass by your vision.  No you’re not imagining things, you’re seeing Gotham’s newest crime-fighting hero! Tonight we caught first hand footage of this masked avenger saving three men and women from a burning building and putting out the flames to boot.  An anonymous tip identified the newest addition to Gotham’s protectors as Erulim, the Angel of Swiftness, Master of Speed, and just what this city needs! Keep your eyes out Gotham, you never know who else might be waiting for their turn to become a hero.  Take their example as a call to arms. It may be just what this city needs to give our escalating crime rate a good old fashioned one-two-punch! Now over to Ollie with the traffic.”

Ollie Williams:  “TOO MANY CARS! NOT ENOUGH ROAD!!!”

Susan Smith:  “Thanks Ollie.  I’m Susan Smith and from all of us here on the Channel 7 News Team, we would like to send out a big thanks to the Gotham Sentinels and all our heroes: masked, uniformed or right next door.  Now returning to your regularly scheduled programming.”

After a long afternoon of painting the new Sentinel headquarters, the Radiant Ranger, decided to call it a day.  After rinsing out her brushes and storing the paint, she sauntered into the kitchen and pulled a can of Fanta orange soda from the new refrigerator.  Shutting the fringe door, she shuffled to the living space and plopped onto the new couch.  Flicking the remote to the wide screen TV mounted on the wall, Lauren cracked open the can <hisss> and looked up at the screen.

The TV was tuned to Channel 8, and there was the team's nemesis, Reporter Barbara Binks.  "Witch," she said softly with a sneer, pausing to hear what Binks had to say...

...was seen this evening literally streaking through the city.  Like a bolt of lightning, hell-bent on causing mass hysteria on I-85, this blue menace caused a pile up across the whole city and two bridges.  The supposed victims of the warehouse fire were evacuated… one through the window by a blast of air, the other complains of neck pain after being yanked out of the building with such speed, I’m surprised they even survived.”...

Lauren stared at the screen, entranced by the information Barbara was presenting.  Without shifting her eyes from the television, she slowly sat her can of orange soda on the coffee table in front of her, shifted her head slightly to one side and said, "...guys!  GUYS!  You're gonna wanna see this!!"

As her teammates came into the room, she pointed at the television, only saying, "look, look!"

Barbara Binks:  ... As if we didn’t have enough to worry about in this city. When will we be rid of these unsolicited vigilantes and their utter disregard for law and order!?!?” Pauses for a long sigh. “Now over to Joe Shortsleeve for the weather...”

Lauren looked up at the teammates that gathered into the room.  Her face showed a look of bewilderment.  Swiftly, she grabbed the remote and changed the channel.

 Alright Lady and Gentleman,

Take a look at the future of crime fighting in Gotham!  This is my initial cut of the Sentinels base of operations.  Please let me know if there are any alterations, additions, removals you think are needed.  I'm looking to collect any necessary feedback and will create a final cut prior to Sunday.  Thanks!

-p.s. it's giant for clarity.  I can create a more standard, manageable sized file for the final cut.

Oh, you poor, misguided soul. We need it BIGGER. Big enough to fit a hexmap! One inch = 1 yard, baby!

Haha, yes that is a very fair point... It's (obviously?) not completely to scale but close enough... In order to line this up with hexes, I think I just need to know HOW big, i.e. build a scale and guesstimate how many meters/feet/inches wide this image or building should be.

Anyone want to throw out a number for how long this building should be?

Lockup - the team is planning on keeping people in a prison here?
If so I would really like to know how the design of these cells are going to be made.

Not all things will be completed by end of Monday within the base. What is definitely completed is -
Painting is completed by RR (Radiant Ranger).
The Alchemist is financing the project - so the stuff will be there.
Architecture completed by Traveller.

I suspect the lockup is there because this used to be a Primus base. Unless we specifically remodeled to remove the cells, they'd remain. Doesn't mean we're planning to use them. Or someone could use them to secure his stash of twinkies (or booze, or whatever).

Great job, Ian!  One thought, though, where is the Radiant Ranger's quarters and bathroom?  If you want her to use the main restroom, prepare to have it locked for a while (ever been in a household with one bathroom???).  Also, she may not want to bunk it with the guys...

How about we take out bunks 1-4, and use half of this space for a half-bath, then make the War Room a separate female bunk quarters? Intel/Comms can also be Planning/War Room.

Alternately, we can change the Observation, Interrogation, and Cells area as Storage, and make the Storage Room into a second bunk &/or Female berthing.

Of course, the Interrogation room is where we discuss what we will all be watching on television that evening, so....

True since this is an old Primus facility they wouldn't remove reinforced  steel/concrete.

Seems like the storage area is going to be a really safe place to put things :)

Will the media be brought into the facility once it's complete?

You might think of reversing one of the bathrooms in the lobby to go into the storage closet and make that it's own restroom.
Just throwing out ideas.

Top secret bathrooms are always amazing, but what about this...

We can turn one of the bunks into a lady bunk just for you. And we could take a chunk of the bathhouse and include that in you personal bunk.  I didn't detail the setup of the bathroom but it could easily have separate stalls/showers/etc. But if you don't want to be at camp with a bunch of guys, we should just give you your own room.

Basic recap of what happened 2 weeks ago:

(01/12/19) The Mayors wife and son had been kidnapped. The son was rescued at the Junkyard where you fought Billy the Kid and the daughters boss of the Colombia mafia. Someone did notice a strange symbol that the female ninja had which was the black hand. After ripping her up Kick-Ass sat on her bleeding body until she was well dead. Not until this happened did Billy divulge where the Columbia mafia HQ was located and the Mayor's wife.
Arriving at the HQ a combat was already in place. 2 construction(ish) Mechs where heading back into the water with some type of briefcase. The Heroes stopped the 2 of the 3 cars from escaping along with what seems the head of the Columbia organization within Gotham.
Having his family back the Mayor was indebted to the heroes and offered a parade and an abandoned Primus facility right outside of Blackgate.

(01/18/19) Everyone was in favor of calling the team Sentinels. When speaking to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor he asked how he should contact the group if such issues arise again. The group came up with having a Bat signal which the deputy mayor was all in favor for to bring in some more tourist.
The parade was small and not many people showed as due to the weather. The people that did show to watch the parade seemed to be in favor of the new Sentinels group from the cheers.

(01/19/19-01/20/19) Over the weekend Lauren and Dave have discovered that about a dozen students have gone missing at Gotham University and discovered that a majority of them had a PE course where the teacher has also gone missing.
Also during this time Quinne has found out his employees at his store have gone missing. A person by the name of Mystic Wolf has taken them and is willing to trade their lives for his belt buckle. The meeting place will be at Amusement Mile at the Ferris wheel at midnight Monday night.
The new Sentinel base is also receiving bulk supplies from amazon and other sources to build out the bunker.

(01/21/19) The game will begin on Monday in the late afternoon as this is when Quinne discovered his missing employee's.

 Victoria/Veronica - I just couldn't picture the character.
Now Janine from Ghostbusters I can definitely see fitting the group with her typically New York attitude.

Janine quotes from Ghostbusters that can translate into Gotham:
"I've quite better jobs than this"
Answering the phone "[Sentinels], What do you want?"
"There's something very strange about that man" Talking about any one of the group
"DO you believe in UFOs, astral projections, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, telekinetic movement, full trance mediums, the Lock Ness monster, and the theory of Atlantis?" Talking to someone waiting for an interview in the lobby of the base.

Main headlines of Gotham -

FBI are investigating Gotham mass killing in Gotham square/Clock Tower district at the Ground Hogs day parade, a total of 19 people died and dozens more have been injured.

Gotham current news (Sunday Morning) -

19 people were killed and a dozen others injured after a shooting Saturday at the Gotham square/Clock Tower district during the annual Ground Hogs Day Parade, officials said.

The Swat team was called Saturday afternoon after several gunmen fired upon onlookers at the parade. A suspect was arrested inside a walled-in dome created by one of the Sentinels, Lt. Lance Evans of the police swat team said. He is currently being held at the GCPD.

"I can't tell you the sadness of the entire community to know that a situation like this has occurred in our streets," Evans said later Saturday. "We are all pretty much devastated."

Eight of the 12 injured are still in critical condition, according to the Hospital.

Of the 9 gunmen 8 have been killed. The one whom we can only describe as “The Joker” died from falling out of the clock tower. We are still unsure if he was pushed out or he committed suicide. Two children were pushed out of the tower one died by the impact but the other was saved by the Sentinel known as the Patrolman. Bryan Allan, the child saved by the Patrolman, praised the Sentinel for saving him. The other teen that fell from the clock tower, Victor Cruz, family is in morning for their son.

Joe Kidmen, the gunman that did not die, is being charged with murder, nineteen counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm on city property and discharging a firearm on city property, police said. No one else is being sought at this time.

Police received reports of active shooters in the financial district at 12:12 p.m.

Tracy Baker who was at the scene said that "one of the Sentinals was here immediately. I just remember seeing her body light up and hover above balloons. At first I thought she was with them as she didn’t do anything but just hover there."

"The Joker just brought out a canon and fired it off into the sky," Tom Sinker another witness said, "Then gunfire started and then a black jet crashed into the building making a loud boom."

Andrew Terrell, 29, is believed to have created this whole gang attack within the city. Dressing up as the Joker from the 1989 Batman movie. It is unknown why this attack occurred.

FBI agent Gerry Holdings referred to this deceased suspect as "not somebody that was on our radar but we are looking into his motives as to why he did this."

Andrew’s father Paul Terrell had not heard about the shooting before The Associated Press contacted him. He said his son, a Professor of Brentwood academy, never showed any interest with guns or weapons.

Tristan Field, 19, told channel seven news that he was in his condo in the West Side Building where he watched the parade when multiple gunshots rang out from streets below.

Field was on the 12th floor while watching this. "They just started shooting," Field said “I grabbed my cell phone and started recording, when I saw the streak of black across my window then a loud boom I thought my building had been hit by a missile.”

<The video plays of people laughing and having a good time as the gunmen mow down the crowd. Radiant Ranger comes from an alley way and hovers over the main float the Joker is on. More gun fire as more people fall from bullet wounds. A canon is fired off from the back of the float and a black jet comes crashing down over the crowd into Wayne Tech Tower. Joker then grabs a bystander and goes into an alley way as Radiant Ranger moves away from the Joker and throws a ball of light at a group of gunmen as they continue to fire upon the crowd. The camera phone moves behind a wall from what seems like protection hearing the loud explosion from the jet crashing. A few moments later the camera moves back to view the burning jet on the side of the building right as a black caped figure is seen moving across a wire guided line from Wayne Tech Tower into the top of the clock tower. The camera moves down to the street showing The Alchemist walling up a gunman, Kick Ass using his baton snapping the neck of one of the gunmen, and Radiant Ranger grabbing a balloon and flying up with it.  The camera then moves up to the clock tower where a man in all black seems to be fighting someone else when a teen falls off the tower. Then a few seconds later a second teen falls off at that point The Patrolman dives off the clock tower down. The camera gets a bit more focused on the shadows within the clock tower and a scuffle between Joker and the black caped figure happen when Joker is knocked off the tower falling. Sirens and red flashing lights are heard from within the condo and Fields moves to evacuate the building as the video stops there.>

We believe that this black caped figured is what is rumored to be what some say is the Batman.

The following streets will be shut down due to the clock tower collapsing onto Wayne Tower, 1st Avenue from Madison to Jefferson, please use an alternative route.

All flags will be held at half mast for the next week in memory of our fellow Gotham citizens.

Yes the Ian you know from Earth Prime, whilst he motorcycled out of Austin, TX, entered a wormhole spinning off a local ranch property. He was then shunted through the densional vortex into the speculative universe of John's Champions campaign. Using his transdimensional knowledge and the differing timescale, he 'came into' some money and decided to become the Batman of Gotham. After a long and illustrious career as a caped crusader and many more adventures to come, he set his resources to work finding a way to return home. Eventually he was able to track down Traveller who helped him develop a way to return to his original timeline in Earth Prime. However, the return was taxing and the dimensional reintegration cost him most of his memory of the whole ordeal. Now his past in John's Gotham resurfaces only in his dreams and deep meditations.

Hi Guys,

I wanted to say thanks for a great game today!  I know most of the group isn't into role-playing very much, and today was very heavy on role-play, so I appreciate it!  As you know, my favorite part of the game is the story aspect, and we had a lot of that tonight.

In summary of today's actions (please ad/correct any inconsistencies):

1) The team started with a day off.  After the parade on Saturday (Feb 2nd), Sunday (Feb 3rd) was a down day, and also Super Bowl Sunday!!!!  As we rolled into Monday, the team had a normal civilian morning, with Kick Ass and the Ranger at school, the Patrolman looking into details about the missing college students, and Alchemist trying to rest after pulling a couple of all-nighters.

2) The Radiant Ranger went to the GCPD to follow-up on the Parade investigation, when she heard a couple of detetives talking about reports of shadows near the Airport.  The descriptions matched an old nemesis of hers: Darkest Night.  She called a team dinner meeting for 6PM to brief them.

3) The evening passed, and as Tuesday arrived, Jenine was swamped with guests.  She out out a call to the team to return o the base, as there was seven groups of people hoping for some time.

  a) Bo Chin from the "dry-cleaners" was dispatched to pickup the Neverland flowers from Alchemist.
  b) Dr Mike Hill in a lab coat (the guy from the Subway encounter that became a ghost) wanted to ask Bill about being an apparition and test to see if he was one.
  c) Detective Alderwood of the GCPD was there to see Bill, too.  He attempted to extort Bill for cash for a dossier on his involvement in the clock tower.  Bill refused the offer.
  d) Kevin Freeman, Esq. was there on behalf of a client that needed help.  Before divulging the nature of the request, he asked that the whole Sentinel team sign a non-disclosure agreement.  Bill had the agreement reviewed by a lawyer and found it to be crafted very well. The Ranger wouldn't sign, so the matter was dropped.
  e) Members of the "Bat Alley Blog" requested an interview to discuss the existence of Batman and his role in the parade.
  f) Katie Richardson (from Channel 10 news) and Barbara Bink (evil villain) requested an interview in regards to the parade.  The Alchemist and Ranger did the interview, where Binks laid into the team for killing the boy at the clock tower.  Both reporters grilled the Sentinels about their actions during the parade.  Binks had purchased the dossier from Det. Alderwood in the lobby.  The interview went well, or so we thought.

Later than evening, Binks was on the news and revealed that the teenager killed at the clock tower was Victor Cruz, son of the Gotham Griffins baseball team general manager Ted Cruz.  She pinned the boy's death on the Sentinels, using the dossier and other footage to make the team look bad.  The Griffins publicly announced that they do not support the Sentinels and their presence is not welcome. This negative press and the identity of the deceased teenager caused a lot of team disharmony.

Not long after, the evil Iron Maiden showed up declaring herself leader of the Sentinels, and challenged the team to a fight to prove her superiority.  A fight broke out with the Alchemist throwing the first punch, right outside their base.  He sis an excellent job of hitting her and pushing her back via a series of Move-By attack actions using his main killing attack. Eventually, she got fed up with it, and tried to shoot him.  The Ranger deflected the attack, and Iron Maiden went into melee mode.  She swooped into Kick Ass, who was standing near the base's door, and carried him 32m into the air. Alchemist and Patrolman flew to their comrade's aide, while the Ranger flew underneath, ready to catch Kick Ass if he fell.

As an attack, Iron Maiden dove to the ground and, using Kick Ass as a shield, plowed hard into the earth, causing a crater 8m deep.  The Sentinels acted to attack her in the hole, and caused it to deepen another 4m (12m total).  Iron Maiden then lept from the hole and fired a large area attack energy beam onto the hole's center, hitting all of the Sentinels at once.  Con stunned, the Radiant Ranger fell the four stories to the bottom, and in an act of pure comedy, Kick Ass pulled the (also Con stunned) Patrolman out of the landing area and watched as she slammed into the Earth at his feet.  Afterwards, Iron Maiden left the area, and police sirens could be heard.  Kick Ass and teh Alchemist were taken to Gotham General Hospital to tend to their injuries.

After the incident with Iron maiden and damaging news reports, the Radiant Ranger went dark and ghosted communication attempts by the Alchemist for five days.  Within this period, the Mayor of Gotham requested the Guardians super hero team come to Gotham, interview the Sentinels, and make recommendations on the team's viability.  The only two members not in the meeting was Erileem (sp?) and The Radiant Ranger.  The assessment by the senior team was that the Sentinels mean well and their heart is in the right place, but do not act as a cohesive unit and are not viable as a team.  In response, it was determined the team needs a strong leader, a public relations officer, and to bring the team onto the city's payroll.  The mayor wants to keep the team together due to the financial boon their actions provide for the city in tourism.

On the fifth day (Saturday, Feb 9th), the Alchemist finally reaches the Radiant Ranger via text, and informs her that they are considering her removal from the team.  The Ranger shows up for a meeting an hour later (after taking an uber vs flying), and an in-depth discussion ensues.  They brief her on the meeting with the Guardians and the results of that.  She questions their cohesion and whether they were right for the job as superheroes.  While drinking gin from a bottle, she laid out her questions regarding the team's actions, whether they actually saved more people than harmed, and whether what they have done was worth it.  The meeting adjourned with the team waiting util the funeral on the next day to figure out what to do.

Please correct anything that isn't accurate.

Thanks again for a great session!

However, the impromptu press conference, eventual reporting by Barbara Binks, identification of the teen that fell to his death, and fall into the pit during the fight with Iron Maiden brought the scope and ramifications of her and the team's actions into stark, frightening contrast.  They weren't a team; they were a group of self-centered activists!  Who were they to determine who lived and died?!  And what is the result?  Hated by the city they strive to protect; banished by all of the major sports leagues (who hold considerable clout nationally); chastised and treated like children by a nationally renown superhero team (the Guardians); and worst of all the lack of caring, compassion, and teamwork by the members of the Sentinels toward each other! (exclamations is from her thoughts and doubt)

As far as she can see (at this moment), the world would probably be better off without the Sentinels.  Luckily, the Alchemist and Kick Ass tried to talk her from the ledge, and she is willing to listen.  However, she wants to take a week to digest the offer by the city and assess her place in the organization.  Luckily, tomorrow is Sunday, the day of Victor Cruz's funeral.

I spoke with John at length after the session, and I think we have an in-game way to bring the Ranger back from the brink.  As a player, I am very happy and excited to play this character, and I don't want to loose her like I did Pestilence.  John (in his wisdom) pointed out that I am letting a little bit of the abuse Pestilence took from the team bleed into the actions taken by the team on the Radiant Ranger.  I think they are justified to a point, and maybe not so much at the same time.

To give you more that your characters can probably deduce from her reasoning, she feels badly that she didn't do enough to save Victor (self pity since she is the flying team member).  She didn't like being left to fall to her death, while Kick Ass watched her crunch at his feet instead of catching her in the crater.  Lastly, the speed at which the idea was floated to kick her from the team is extraordinarily astonishing to her.  She is thinking that no one came by her apartment, the bar she hangs out at, nor school to check on her; just a snap decision to kick her from the team when she dropped out of contact for a bit (that is instead of a real effort to check on her well being, the team was in discussions to kick her out).  That weighs heavily on someone who needs help and is crying out through silence.

In the end, I think we'll use her NPC mentor (Denny O'Neil) to snap her out of it.

Just wanted to share.  Thanks for your time!

Great re-cap Chris,

I would just like to point out a few minor things -
The following occurred all on Monday

As we rolled into Monday, the team had a normal civilian morning, with Kick Ass and the Ranger at school, the Patrolman looking into details about the missing college students, and Alchemist trying to rest after pulling a couple of all-nighters.
The Radiant Ranger went to the GCPD to follow-up on the Parade investigation, when she heard a couple of detetives talking about reports of shadows near the Airport.  The descriptions matched an old nemesis of hers: Darkest Night.  She called a team dinner meeting for 6PM to brief them.
meeting did not occur as once Ranger contacted Alchemist a few mins later Jenine sent out a text (it was just after-noon) saying that "a few people are waiting for you at the base."

Dark Maiden showed up well after all the interviews near 6pm time Monday

After this attack is when Barbra Binks released the news story (the late breaking 6pm news story - but everyone in the group already knew what she was going to report on earlier that day).

The Alchemist and Ranger did the interview, where Binks laid into the team for killing the boy at the clock tower.
The news is not saying the team killed the boy only that they didn't rescue him when they where given the opportunity.

The assessment by the senior team was that the Sentinels mean well and their heart is in the right place, but do not act as a cohesive unit and are not viable as a team.
no one really knows what happened between the Mayor and report given to him by the Guardians - this is all out of game knowledge

As the previous game was filled with combat this game setting was filled with non-combat (with a very small combat). I designed this game setting to put heavy personal pressure on 3 of the players this game season it just happened that Kick-Ass brought himself into the fold with the whole dropping of Ranger.
This is also a first where the hero's have fought a real meta - Iron (Dark) Maiden. All previous events have been street level (with small level at the junkyard). Kick-Ass in a round about way managed to give her a bloody nose and a heavy bruise on her face. Some scratches where caused by Ranger and Alchemist.
I wanted to bring to light with this game to all the characters - the few people that have been killed mean something to someone within Gotham. It just happened that the press is focused on the Cruz family and due to circumstances it ended on the doorstep of Binks who the Sentinels just love :)

Now for game mechanics - Right now every character has personal stuff they need to handle as well as team development. We could dial back on the pressure of these non-combat events or we can keep the same level.
The Dark Maiden is NOT going to be a re-occurring villain. This character just made a guest appearance which was requested by someone.
The Guardians are NOT going to be re-occurring guest. This was hopefully just a bit of guidance and possibly asperation to become something better than the Guardians.
We all know Gotham - it's corrupt but there are good, honest people that live there. How much pressure can your character truly handle from living in this type of city? Do they want to change Gotham? If so how?
The most important question - What is it you want to see happen within the game (within reason). Are you happy with the world/city? Are there to many options for the characters to choose from? Do the players want a more direct line to what is happening within the story/game?

Thanks for the clarifications, John!  I apologize for not being accurate.

Oh, and I was thinking this would have been a great theme for the fight with the Dark Maiden:

If you wanted to be sadistic and thought about it, while we were all in the pit, she could have ripped the side of the HQ off and tossed the debris into the crater, burying us right in front of our HQ.  How morbid is that?  It would have been a glorious scene!

What's the point in having such a fantastic scene if there's no news to capture it on video?
Unfortunately the security video was deleted so no one will ever be able to re-live the whole experience.

I could see the sentinals all sitting around on the couch watching the big screen way off in the future. Ranger munching on popcorn, alchemists sitting next to his gf and Bill rewinding the tape once again as the security footage plays again with dark maiden.
"Remeber those days when that little villian gave us problems. To bad a year later she was put in stronghold by us".

From my play style, this was absolutely fantastic!  I really appreciate the way everyone played their characters and the interactions the team had, both positive and otherwise.  If this was orchestrated, then you are a maestro, John!  Bravo!

From a fan watching the show unfold on the big/small screen, it is great!

This is also a first where the hero's have fought a real meta - Iron (Dark) Maiden. All previous events have been street level (with small level at the junkyard). Yeah, it was a solid wake-up call, to say the least, and really made the characters realize how small they are and how big the world is outside of the City.  It also showed how desperately the team needs to work together to succeed.

I wanted to bring to light with this game to all the characters - the few people that have been killed mean something to someone within Gotham. It just happened that the press is focused on the Cruz family and due to circumstances it ended on the doorstep of Binks who the Sentinels just love :)

Binks is a great foil for the team, no doubt about it.

As for humanizing the casualties, it worked!  At least for Lauren, if you couldn't tell, this was terribly chastening 😋:

 -  Realizing she didn't help her DNPC and he could have died or been injured.
 -  Linking the boy that was killed to her Gotham sports fanaticism Disad created a strong reason to care and brought home the need to be thoughtful in combat.
 -  In the interview, Binks bull-dogging her hesitation in the initial part of combat made her question herself.
 -  Dark Maiden's attack made her question her (and the team's) abilities.
 -  Falling four stories into the pit and splattering on the ground next to her friends made her question her teammate's loyalty.

It was magnificently sobering!  Bravo, everyone!  Character development engaged!

Now for game mechanics - Right now every character has personal stuff they need to handle as well as team development. We could dial back on the pressure of these non-combat events or we can keep the same level.

It is pretty easy to predict that the funeral for Victor Cruz will be the defining moment for the team.  Whatever is going to happen will either bring the group together or tear the Sentinels apart for good.  I, for one, would love to see how everything culminates, which requires that we continue on with the drama, at least in the beginning (until the fight with the BBEG).  If there is no BBEG and the only fight is with the demons we are all facing, then I will be prepared for that, too.  In the latter case, the emotional impact of the funeral would be the catalyst to bring the team together.  Otherwise, it will be a grand fight against Batman!

We all know Gotham - it's corrupt but there are good, honest people that live there. How much pressure can your character truly handle from living in this type of city? Do they want to change Gotham? If so how?

This is a fantastic question!  I thought about this last night, and it is at the crux of the Radiant Ranger's internal struggle.  Does she have what it takes to not only live here, but to thrive as a superhero?  If so, she will loose her naivete and step into the adult world of supers!  If not, then she will shrivel back into the shadows, always questioning what might have been and whether she was worthy in the first place.  I can't wait to find out!!!!!

Oh, and I'm playing off of everyone else's character actions (like IMPROV), almost like running her as a DM NPC.  So whatever the other characters do and how they react to her (including the other NPCs run by John) will determine her fate.  I have a direction I want to go, but as the story unfolds, I change her actions to match-up and then course correct to get to the end point.  This is why I am counting on John's help during the funeral via her Contact/DNPC to be a Jiminy Cricket sort of character, unless another PC wants to take up the mantel.

The most important question - What is it you want to see happen within the game (within reason). Are you happy with the world/city?

I am personally very happy with the game, as it allows a significant amount of character development.  The setting is gritty, people can die, and we are weaker than we think.

Are there to many options for the characters to choose from? Do the players want a more direct line to what is happening within the story/game?

If there is a main story we are currently following, it is the missing college kids.  Everything else has been episodic filler.  The player group isn't really a detective squad; rather, it is an enforcer group. Events that have meaning to them, a bit if grit a gristle, and a sense of usefulness is the main impetus, I think.

It's been great, so far.  However, if we are frustrating you by not engaging when you want, then that needs to be corrected on our part.

Think of the game as a comic book. At most you will have is a 3 game session story arc. I want to keep it small as it keeps the game fresher with something new. On occasions you will have 1 game arc (example: Neverland).

The setting is gritty, people can die, and we are weaker than we think.
Most of the games the team has been able to face off against the guy with the hand gun or even possibly a rifle - this type of attack has gone through The Patrolman, bounced off Kick-Ass, Ranger has deflected most of them if not taken a few stun if hit and The Alchemist might take a few body or two.

Everything else has been episodic filler.
Well that will be the theme of the setting mostly just 3 game story arch (possibly 4 if things move slow).

From my play style, this was absolutely fantastic!  I really appreciate the way everyone played their characters and the interactions the team had, both positive and otherwise.  If this was orchestrated, then you are a maestro, John!  Bravo!
Thanks so much! I thought long and hard about what had previous happened the ground hogs parade massacre and what each character did. I came up with how things would play out or if not at all (such as the lawyer). Every scene kept playing in my head for this game and I wanted to bring a bit of realism to the group within the game. What really would happen that occurred? Yeah the media would be all over it, yeah it would go national, yeah the FBI would be there. As for Primus - why would they need to be there? Was it a meta that attacked? Every report says otherwise. Just some crazy guy dressed in a clown outfit with some gas. Doesn't really fall under there jurisdiction.

Binks is a great foil for the team, no doubt about it.
Is she really bad or does she just want as much ratting as possible no matter the cost? Sounds very Gothamy to me :)
If she is a problem...deal with her or the situation.

it allows a significant amount of character development.
That is what I'm looking for. Not just how hard can you hit the bad guy.

Yeah, it was a solid wake-up call, to say the least, and really made the characters realize how small they are and how big the world is outside of the City.  It also showed how desperately the team needs to work together to succeed.
Each one of the character can play within Gotham without a team. They could each do there own thing and be successful at it. As a game perspective I cannot really do this as if I did there would always be 3 or 4 of you guys just sitting there watching someone else play until it was your turn.

Otherwise, it will be a grand fight against Batman!
What!? He's a good guy. Haven't you read his comics or saw the movies?

The Griffins publicly announced that they do not support the Sentinels and their presence is not welcome.
I almost let this get by me. The Griffins have not said anything about the Sentinels. During the game I had stressed when they where interviewed about the Sentinels they said "no comment" but in a begrudgingly way. I'll post more about this on your characters history.

Yep, episodic is great!  The main "episode" I think we are concerned with is the college kids disappearing.  However, we need to help the Alchemist, too.

The Radiant Ranger has taken full auto fire to the face!  Yes, she survived, but was seriously drained of STUN.  So, yes, we can defeat organized crime but not mainline villains.

Yep, FBI is fine.

If she is a problem...deal with her or the situation.

A foil doesn't need to be bad or evil, she is a person who is dedicated to routing all of the team's skeletons (for whatever reason).  We haven't gone after her; because, that would look petty and she hasn't done anything villainous.

Otherwise, it will be a grand fight against Batman!
What!? He's a good guy. Haven't you read his comics or saw the movies?

Is he a good guy?  I thought he was a myth?!?  I thought the Joker swapped clothing with The Batman and it was actually The Batman who fell to his death from the clock tower!  Who survived?  Batman or Joker?????

The Griffins publicly announced that they do not support the Sentinels and their presence is not welcome.

I read into the statement that the Griffins don't like us much.  Officially a No Comment spoken begrudgingly, isn't good.  If it was, it would have been said.  Lauren has season tickets. too!

BTW, how far is it from Paddy's Bar to the Griffin's Stadium?

Really? Nothing can replace the superman theme. Everyone knows it.
I just don't feel it for the Toy story one.
We all know rocky's sound track also - can't replace that.
So many good movies and so many great music theme sounds to go with them, why limit to just one.
I had to laugh at the martial arts one.

Yeah...I'm with John on this one.

It doesn't go with everything. The soundtrack for Terminator suits that scene far better.

The Avengers score is good, but it's hardly the right theme for everything.

Well, as I await my character's impending doom at the hands of Gotham, I was searching out songs to keep me in the spirit, and YouTube suggested that.

Of course, my ultimate favorite is this one:

and this version of it is pretty good, too

That was a movie.  A good movie, but a show none the less.  Good questions and themes in it.  Luckily in our universe, the Champions have already solved most of these questions.

Hi guys.  As we approach the game this Sunday, I have a question.  Did I over role-play?  Was my play obnoxious?  Should I throttle back on getting into the character and keep the game at a higher level?

Thanks.
