Titus and all

Thank you for the group activation and the photos of the School of Champions – Chaminade Eagles! Those blocks have resilience!! I left Kenyatta Dormitory in June 1984 and the structures look almost the same except for the urinal and ablution block. I wish something could be done immediately.

Colleagues

Here is the first batch of photos on word files.

Regards

Titus Mtegha

Colleagues,

I promised to get back to you after visiting the school:

Indeed I did visit the school and met the Headmaster and Bro Kimeu. I was in the company of old boys Bellium Msukwa and Felix Mwakyanjala.

Our meeting was brief but we had an opportunity to visit the campus and took as many photos as practically possible.

The issues that we discussed were mainly two:

a)      On the assistance that individual old boy and well wishers could do to support the school, is to identify the specific area or issue of interest from the strategic plan and assist either in cash or in kind. The strategic plan has once again been attached for the information of all.

b)      The Organising Committee has so far come up with a budget for the 26th May function which old boys and well wishers may support. The total estimated budget is K3,415,000 and broken down as follows:

1)      Food – K1,878,700

2)      Decoration – K315,500

3)      Protocal – K355,200

4)      Entertainment – K75,000

5)      Fundraising activities – K67,700 (Committees operational costs)

6)      Accommodation – K140,000

7)      Security – K100,000

8)      Liturgy – K232,900

9)      Site – K250,000 (Podium etc)

On the photos I will be releasing them bit by bit as I work on them. Please lets share these photos with friends/old boys.

As I also indicated, let us now work with the Organizing Committee and or the Coordinators that we have elected or will be elected. My self appointed coordinating role must come to an end now.

For those that bought the weekend Nation, I am sure you saw the advert and it will come out again on Wednesday and Saturday.

Wish you all best of luck and it’s my hope that you will enjoy viewing the pictures. I must say the school has done tremendous work to improve the living standards of the students and I believe it’s right and proper that we old boys at least do something to support our school.

Some are already doing some commendable job by sending some cash which the school is using to repair some broken lockers in the dormitories.

Thank you so much for those of you who kept in touch and who made valuable contributions to the exchange of emails that took place during this short period that I facilitated the coordination.

May God bless you all.

Regards

Titus Mtegha

Colleagues

Further to my earlier communication please find attached the following documents:

a)      The final invitation and appeal advert.

b)      A schedule of items that the school is in need for support and some background information.

c)       Photos for the school hostel entrance area.

Action taken as of now:

a)      The advert has been sent to the Nations Publications for releasing in the Weekend Nation of 4th and 11th February 2012 and Daily Nation of 8th February 2012.

Next steps

a)      Wiseman and Simon to work on the photos as suggested. If you need more photos taken let me know.

b)      All old boys to circulate the final invitation as wide as possible. Wiseman to use the forum as indicated earlier

c)       The list of items in not detailed enough, I will work with the school so that more details are provided for us to make a meaningful contribution. Time permitting I may visit the school this weekend.

d)      Volunteers to come forward for coordinators in Mzuzu, Lilongwe, Blantyre and Zomba.

e)      We start making contributions to the school.

Have a very nice day and please when responding copy your emails to tmtegha @yahoo.com

Regards

Dear All

The enthusiasm has not died . We are thinking of how much to contribute to this noble cause. Proposals for contributions of this kind started sometime back and contributions have been made in the past as well. We will definitely contribute and I see many old boys in managerial positions in many companies and I think they can exert their influence for this  cause

50 years is a long time , I am not even 50 myself! Could I suggest that  among the activities the celebration committee consider a celebration leaflet and capture the lives of some old boys! The celebrations could also consider honouring old boys, brothers and headmasters ( the guys that used to catch us out of bounds when looking for  manga misi)  that have contributed to society like first Headboy if still alive, great footballers like Kinna and off course Quiz team!!

All is well that ends well . All the best

Excellent  offer. Kudos to MBC. The cost of transport and allowances should not be high from Mzuzu where they have a studio.

I agree with Simon. Enthusiasm has not died. if anything it has increased, unless I am reading a different sent of communication. I have seen offers being made, people asking for quotations, others asking for more info on specific issues, suggestions about events/activities for the celebrations; and there are groups meeting in some parts of the country. Are these not indicators for growing enthusiasm?

As for the MBC offer, I would say we go for it. In fact I had also talked to some people at MBC and other radio stations for interviews and features related to the event. We are likely to have other radio stations coming in as well. I am at present using my membership in the Media Council to lobby media outlets to feature the event. A few of you may be approached for interviews, etc. One of the Chanco students who writes features in newspapers has promised to do one on Chaminade and the upcoming celebrations. There is also a lot of lobbying going on at the individual level. So, don't be worried about enthusiasm.

please excuse my naivety/ignorance but are we talking about paying mbc to produce a program they wish to broadcast? that sounds a bit odd but maybe because i don't understand how the media works in my country. no, of course, i'm not suggesting that it shouldn't be done. i'm just asking so i understand how stuff works.

i would also suggest that we pique the interest of other radio stations if that is at all possible. this way, the event(s) is not held hostage to one radio station, which does not appear to hold a monopoly of 'listenership' any more. could the tv station also not be nudged to show some sort of clip for this?

btw, i'm sending this to the list but there are still 20 addresses which have not accepted their invites to join the list. i plan to 'shame' them in the coming days for their inaction.

My understanding is that the Morning Basket (Thumba La Zambiri) is a free programme that airs current issues in society. In fact, any programme/braodcast related to education is for free on MBC, according to the law. MBC does not charge or are not supposed to charge for educational programmes. Broadcasting educational programmes is their legal mandate. I therefore do not expect them to charge for the programme. I think the expenses/costs relate to travel and accommodation for the people to do the programme. MBC does not have adequate resources to send out reporters, journalists and producers to collect broadcast material in the field. So they often ask for some kind of "sponsorship" in terms of travel expenses, accommodation, meals. Another way of cutting that out is to provide them with a vehicle, accommodation and meals - justing covering the trip. I have done that with them in my other capacities.

Excellent  offer. Kudos to MBC. The cost of transport and allowances should not be high from Mzuzu where they have a studio.

Thanks

RE: DOCUMENTS Colleagues, I promised to get back to you after visiting the school: Indeed I did visit the school and met the Headmaster and Bro Kimeu. I was in the company of old boys Bellium Msukwa and Felix Mwakyanjala. Our meeting was brief but we had an opportunity to visit the campus and took as many photos as practically possible. The issues that we discussed were mainly two:   On the photos I will be releasing them bit by bit as I work on them. Regards Titus Mtegha From: Titus Mtegha [mailto:chis...@nrwb.org.mw]
