Good Heavens! Could the School not try at least to have the School Entrance Painted for the advert. Is that really the "School of Champions" I knew?

Dear All,

May I congratulate those that came up with the web page for Chaminade, The School of Champions.

However, visiting the home page of the site at www.chaminade.mw, I find that the page is full of spelling mistakes. Can we integrate the first paragraph of the Jubilee Celebration Invitation and make the necessary corrections?

If I can correctly recall, the school is renowned for its prowess in the fields of drama and "Top of the Class" quiz competition not forgetting the sensational "Burunga" ,"VP" parties and Peremende pelting.

As for the face of the entrance to the hostels, I suggest we leave it like that but probably renovate the volleyball and basketball pitches outside the hostels. Painting the face will be as good as committing ourselves to build  totally new structures that would modernize the whole institution.

Regards,

Marumbo

Hon Mwalwanda and Colleagues

Greetings!

I had an opportunity to meet the Head and Bro Charles of Chaminade.

We discussed a number of issues and all is set for the celebrations!

The first and most urgent issue is publicity so that as many people as possible are aware.

The school has drafted the first announcement which I have attached for your urgent comments before it is published in the local papers starting from this weekend. We are also intending to post the same on the website
www.chaminade.mw.

I would appreciate your comments by Wednesday!

Have a good day!

hello all,

i just got the latest, i think, documents from titus and i am going to attempt to attach them here. i don't expect google groups to accept the attachments and if it doesn't, then i will figure out some other way to get these to you.

is that the picture to the entrance to the main dorms? i don't remember the place looks so bad when i was there but it may be that it was because i was a naive 15 year old. the picture is makes one sad. excuse the language but it looks like an entrance to an animal house, not an entrance to a place where people live. i hope i haven't offended anyone but that is the truth from my perspective.

school website: http://www.chaminade.mw/

titus: if the attachments go through, you can ignore them. they are the self same documents you just sent me.

ok people,

i just checked the list and i see the attachments there, so hopefully everyone got the three word documents.

there are still 31 people who are either slow or maybe don't read their emails that frequently. these have not accepted their invites to the list. all of them were added in the last 48 hours. please talk to your contacts and have them accept the invites else they may not be able to participate in the discussions. david, chenjerani this note applies to the two of you because i think i got most of the new names from your messages. so if you know any of the individuals you suspect might not be participating -- actually it probably doesn't hurt to call anyone you know even if you believe they are on the list -- please talk to them.

I would also concur with Hon Mwalwanda that you continue coordinating the activities for the time being, especially that you are closer to the school from Mzuzu than some of us are, also because of ease of communication. You can communicate much faster and more effectively than anyone based in Karonga.

Colleagues,

I promised to get back to you after visiting the school:

Indeed I did visit the school and met the Headmaster and Bro Kimeu. I was in the company of old boys Bellium Msukwa and Felix Mwakyanjala.

Our meeting was brief but we had an opportunity to visit the campus and took as many photos as practically possible.

The issues that we discussed were mainly two:

a)      On the assistance that individual old boy and well wishers could do to support the school, is to identify the specific area or issue of interest from the strategic plan and assist either in cash or in kind. The strategic plan has once again been attached for the information of all.
b)      The Organising Committee has so far come up with a budget for the 26th May function which old boys and well wishers may support. The total estimated budget is K3,415,000 and broken down as follows:
1)      Food – K1,878,700
2)      Decoration – K315,500
3)      Protocal – K355,200
4)      Entertainment – K75,000
5)      Fundraising activities – K67,700 (Committees operational costs)
6)      Accommodation – K140,000
7)      Security – K100,000
8)      Liturgy – K232,900
9)      Site – K250,000 (Podium etc)

On the photos I will be releasing them bit by bit as I work on them. Please lets share these photos with friends/old boys.

As I also indicated, let us now work with the Organizing Committee and or the Coordinators that we have elected or will be elected. My self appointed coordinating role must come to an end now.

For those that bought the weekend Nation, I am sure you saw the advert and it will come out again on Wednesday and Saturday.

Wish you all best of luck and it’s my hope that you will enjoy viewing the pictures. I must say the school has done tremendous work to improve the living standards of the students and I believe it’s right and proper that we old boys at least do something to support our school.

Some are already doing some commendable job by sending some cash which the school is using to repair some broken lockers in the dormitories.

Thank you so much for those of you who kept in touch and who made valuable contributions to the exchange of emails that took place during this short period that I facilitated the coordination.

May God bless you all.

Regards

Thanks, Titus. I will.

Thanks for the pictorial record of the school. There is a lot we can learn from it.

Looks like there is a lot that needs to be done at the school. Surely with a 10-year strategic plan, new developments taking place at the school, a few structures requiring repairs - some probably needing reconstruction, I would strongly advise that we regard our support to the school as a continuous project, NOT suggest for the celebrations. We should adopt this as our long term project, with some of the activities requiring short term attention. We need to go (and think)beyond 26th May 2012.

From the photos I could see that some of the roofs need to be either replaced or painted, the walls need scraping and painting. the old ablution block needs to be either reconstructed or heavily repaired. There is need for concrete pavements and proper drainage between some buildings in order to control the sippage and to protect the foundations, etc etc.

Guys, we need to come in, not just now but even on a more longer term basis. We came out of that school, who knows, our own children and grandchildren may one day be found there. It would be a joy to them to hear that their fathers or/and grandfathers or great grandfathers made a contribution to the greatness of the school. We can build a family tradition!
