Mods found in the Steam Workshop can be installed by navigating to the mod's page and clicking Subscribe. The game must be started to install the mod into the game, and the installation will be signaled by a loading screen. Once installed, the mod will automatically be enabled ingame. If a mod has updated, then starting the game again will update the mod accordingly as signaled as a loading screen. Unsubscribing to the Steam Workshop mod then starting the game will cause the mod itself to uninstall, also seen on the loading screen. Note that some mods are only functional for the Afterbirth+ DLC while others are only functional when the Repentance DLC is enabled. Some mods require add-in support mods in order to properly function as well (i.e. Mod Compatability Hack or Custom Stage API).

Mods that do not use the Steam Workshop can be installed by downloading them and manually extracting them to the mods folder of the main Binding of Isaac folder. Starting the game will feature the mod automatically enabled and won't be featured in the installation loading screen.

In Afterbirth+ and Repentance, having any enabled mod will disable the ability to unlock any achievements to encourage new players to play the game without any. To enable unlocking achievements with mods enabled, you need to defeat Mom at least once with all of your mods disabled. If your mods disappear after installing them (only on cracked versions of AB+), it is greatly recommended to defeat Mom's Heart once.

Many mods do not or cannot retain save data in a continued game. This could be due to the mod author not knowing how to enable this, or the mod's data being too complicated to save. It is recommended to avoid continuing any saved games if any mods are enabled.

If any installed mods contain save data that must be kept between runs (for example, custom unlockables) then this would be a big concern, as deleting the mod's save data would remove this progress. Some ways to work around these issues include:

When this happens, many textures and animation files will not be applied in-game. For example, a custom monster added by a mod affected by this issue may appear invisible. Some ways to work around these issues include:

These kinds of issues are usually caused by the game failing to copy all the mod's files over from Steam's workshop folder into the mod's folder. Performing this process manually by yourself usually fixes this. Steam's workshop folder is included in:

The official mod repository, these mods only work for Afterbirth+ or Repentance. Note that some mods only work with the former enabled and the latter disabled while some others only work with the latter enabled.

To download mods from our Modding of Isaac website, you need to own The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth on Steam. You do not need to own any DLCs. You will need to have your Game details and My profile settings set to Public when you log in (you may set them back to the original settings after logging into the site). If you have tried to download a mod when you own the game and weren't allowed to, try logging out and back in again. If that does not work, use the discussions boards or Discord server.

Extract the file(s) into your resources folder. You can find this folder by right click on The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth in your Steam Library, and go to Properties -> Local files -> Browse local files... Some mods made use non-standard installation methods. Check the mod page for installation instructions.

If you installed a mod and it had no effect or resulted in crashes, go back and make sure you installed it properly. Check the description of the mod and the comments of the mod to ensure that nobody has posted a fix to your issue. Leave a comment on the mod describing your issue and hopefully the author will get back to you. If they don't reply, it is likely the mod is outdated or the author is gone.

When modding files on Rebirth and Afterbirth, achievements will not be disabled. However, when using an Afterbirth+ or Repentance mod, your achievements will be disabled until you've defeated Mom at least once.

Good morning, or evening, or afternoon wherever you are. I'm posting this to get help with modding for PS5. I've found a way to allow for certain mods to be transferred to a PS5 save. See my level 45, 44ish feats character in the link below.

Im writing this to show mods can be used on PS5 but more importantly to see if some of you actual creators that know what you're doing can figure a way to get the pak file mods ported over. All saves that contained those type of files just didnt show up on my PS5. Or start making more mods that can be uploaded to PS5...

I actually went a step further (research purpose offcourse). Through extension what @jaygbc allready shown this works also with other mods. Mainly mods that can add excisting gear/features. Altering gear and other stuff will break the game.

Make sure once you got all the gear/ changes done you have to repeat jay's last step. Open the bgmodinstaller and drag everything to the right --> Safe and export--> delete de Shared folders in data/public and restart the game "modless". You get a warning with missing mods and game could crash but pay no attention to that. Once in the game save the game again and make sure it's synced. It should work on the ps5.

The Binding of Isaac is one of the most infinitely replayable games ever made. Many people consider this title's immense popularity to be the reason why roguelike games became so popular, allowing for a compelling gameplay loop where players were encouraged to get as strong as possible before finally having the means to take out powerful enemies and bosses who ended their run time and time again. While the roguelike genre has expanded by leaps and bounds following this title, there's no denying that The Binding of Isaac will still hold a special place in the hearts of many gamers who experienced the magic of this title for themselves during its glory days.

Still, even with its multitude of items from DLC and the numerous new mechanics introduced with each major update, the game can start to feel stale after a certain point. The best way to refresh The Binding of Isaac for long-time players is to consider using mods. The Steam Workshop is the best place to download the best Isaac mods, but if players have the most recent DLC Repentance installed, they may need to wait for a patch or downgrade to Afterbirth to make many of these mods functional. For those who don't have Repentance, most mods should work completely fine.

Updated May 29, 2024 by Ritwik Mitra: The Binding of Isaac is a roguelike game that a lot of people are familiar with. It's a huge indie hit that players can't get enough of to this day, with the title occupying a soft spot in the hearts of many. The captivating gameplay of this title coupled with a chilling story told in a non-intrusive manner lends an aura of creepiness to the overarching gameplay.

That being said, there's no denying that this game has been out for so long that most players have already seen all the cards this title can dish out. So, in this event, mods are the best way to ensure that the game remains fresh and keeps players invested in the long run.

The Binding of Isaac: Vectorized is a fan-made visual enhancement to the sprites, items, and general artwork of the game. The Binding of Isaac has received lots of praise for its pixel art style, but vectorized art still looks much cleaner.

This is a great mod for players who want something fresh to look at, not necessarily to play. It overhauls countless models in the game, essentially giving every model the filter effect. It's one of the best Binding of Isaac mods for aesthetics.

There are only so many combinations of rooms that players can see in The Binding of Isaac before things start repeating, which can make subsequent runs less interesting. To combat this, players can download a mod that adds a wealth of new, special rooms into the game that feels pretty balanced while also making runs feel more engaging and unique than ever before.

The sheer amount of new challenges added by this mod is pretty amazing to behold and goes a long way in proving just how much potential The Binding of Isaac has. The game has seen so many expansions and content packs that this sentiment may seem rather odd, but some people wouldn't mind a version of this game that's loaded with even more things to do, and this mod certainly helps in this regard.

For gamers who've wanted to play The Binding of Isaac as a DOOM-like game, this mod lets them do exactly that. It's surprisingly free of bugs and completely overhauls how a gamer gets through a run.

The best mods for The Binding of Isaac are the ones that add more content to a game already jam-packed with so many things to do. Given the sheer number of rooms and combinations in The Binding of Isaac, it's easy to see why fans would want to check out something different that adds more surprises to keep things fresh and engaging.

With new enemies and rooms added to the mix, players can expect a lot more when they go through a run of this hard-as-nails game. Veterans will love the curveballs this mod throws at the player, ensuring that they never get too comfortable and need to switch things up from time to time.

There's no denying that The Binding of Isaac is a tough game as is, but there are some players who will uncover all the tricks this title has up its sleeve. This makes it harder for the game to catch players by surprise, which can have dire consequences when it comes to the longevity of this game in the eyes of its biggest fans.

Thankfully, there are mods players can use to make things even more challenging, forcing them to improve their skills and best the many tough foes in every run. Not only does this game rework existing bosses to make them tougher, but it also adds new enemies that can be a pain to deal with too. Along with this, a wealth of new music, items, enemies, floors, and everything else is added to the game to make things feel new and fresh.
