1 Native Instruments Cuba (very good sound, internal pattern sequencer, however not as many instruments as Toontrack has)
2. Samplephonics Afro-Latin Percussion (good overall sound, but single layer instruments only, therefore poor dynamics)
3. MAudio ProSession Producer Afro Cuban Percussion (quite old, but still a decent library)
4. Muletone Audio Travel Congas (congas only - as the name says - but very nice)

1. Latin Cuban Percussion EZX2 (this one I do not own, so you'll have to aks others or judge yourself from YT clips for example)
2. Latin Percussion EZX (Pros: versatile, wide range of instruments, included midi grooves, etc. Cons: somewhat muffled sound to my ears, especially in the mix, so it may require some tweaking.

I use DIm pro and TTS-1. I have a few bits I bought for Addictive drums. It's actually a hard one to solve as I have yet found one VST that does everything well. I gave up on looking for the perfect Tambourines and sampled my own and use Session Drummer to play it.

I like to use subtle shakers and tambourine in most things, and one of the absolute quickest and easiest ways to throw those in is Skaka from Klevgrand. It doesn't have a lot of instruments (10, IIRC), but they sound good and the sequencer is very easy to use. At 50 bucks I don't know of anything cheaper other than free Kontakt libraries. I'm hoping the success of this recently-introduced product will inspire its creators to expand it by adding more instruments.

If I want something fancier, it'll usually be Shimmer Shake Strike from In Session Audio. Compared with Skaka, it's more expensive, requires Kontakt (compatible with the free version, though) and is more complicated to use. However, it has way more instruments (67 with the expansion pack) and more mixing, fx and sequencing options. Sound quality is good enough to feature your percussion front and center.

If you already have a fancy drum sampler such as Addictive Drums, Jamstix, Superior Drummer, EZDrummer or BFD, all have percussion expansions available for them. But only if you already have one. I wouldn't go out and spend a lot for one of these just for percussion, although Jamstix is a good value and a lot of fun.

in addition, i've also used the Cakewalk Session Drummer and a number of the drum programs come with a variety of percussion - some is in WAV, others FLAC, but overall decent enough where @bitflipper and @John Vere noted percussion isn't front and center. other times i use the AD 2 session percussion when something a bit more real is needed (although not a fan of the congas, so i'll either play those myself or record as a sample).

They sent along an email this am mentioning that they are still working on a newer plugin (and some conversion tools for kits, etc) for the newer software and there will not be a lot of cross platform stuff at first.

Basimilus Iteritas is an additive/FM synthesizer inspired by analog percussion synthesis. Synthesizing unique percussion is a breeze: thumping kicks, snappy snares, hats, snaps, and claps are all just a few tweaks away with Basimilus Iteritas. But it does so much more! The straightforward controls make creating almost any type of sound simple, including leads, ambient chirps, basses and more.

Basimilus Iteritas makes 6-operator FM and additive synthesis easy with simple harmonic distribution controls, oscillator morphing, and our signature wavefolder. And with the included library of presets, you can quickly find the sounds you need without touching a single fader.

Our plugins come with free updates for the lifetime of the product. As long as we make the plugin, it will be supported, and if you buy a plugin, it is yours. We do not provide access to old versions. Our goal is to support operating system versions currently supported by Microsoft and Apple. You will be able to update all plugin(s) you purchase for free. Updates may include bugfixes or feature adds.

Why waste time trying to find usable percussion sounds when you could be focusing on your creativity? Getting a percussion sound requires putting in a significant amount of time and effort, even when you are highly qualified for the task and have a top-quality drum or percussion recording, to begin with.

To achieve larger-than-life yet completely natural-sounding drums and percussion, every step of the sampling process is as important. Starting with tuning the drums, selecting the right room, placing the microphones in the ideal position, they all play a huge part in achieving a desired drum sound.

Hover over any instrument name on the Key-Mapping/ Pitch-Tuning panel, and magic happens: dynamic audition pads are revealed, allowing you to trigger any available sound in its full dynamic range and articulations.

Starting with v2.0, the Handy Drums samples are instantly loaded into the memory only when played. That means that you can run several Handy Drums plugin instances, and only the samples utilized are ever loaded.

If you wish to load the entire sample library, you can do so with a simple switch. Even so, only portions of the highly optimized sample library format are loaded into the memory, with the rest being read straight from the disk.

Pair the WORLD PERCUSSION plugin with Handy Grooves WORLD PERCUSSION, our MIDI drum, and percussion loop package for immediate results. Our midi percussion loops have been produced by world-class drummer-producers and tailored to work specifically with Handy Drums plugins.

While recorded at 24-bit depth and mixed at 32-floating point, our sample libraries are provided in a special, highly memory-optimized HLAC format, preserving the full resolution at a much smaller footprint.

The Sensory Percussion Ableton Plugin has all of the features of the standalone app, but it runs inside Ableton Live 9+. It will load inside other DAWs that support VSTs, but full usage of all four channels is restricted by the DAW's ability to route multi-channel audio into VST effects. In our tests, Ableton is the only DAW that supports this.

You can drag and drop the full Sensory-Percussion-VST-Ableton-Template.als into the Mixer Drop Area of your current Ableton session. This is helpful so that you don't have to keep saving-as to avoid overwriting the template.

That is because we are monitoring playback through the Sensory Percussion VST. If you want to listen to the recorded audio tracks, you can unmute the Sensory Percussion audio tracks group, and mute the Sensory Percussion VST.

Just like in the standalone app, you can use a MIDI controller to control almost any parameter inside the Sensory Percussion Ableton plugin. An external MIDI controller can be a helpful device to change kits, turn on/off samplers, mute tracks, and adjust the volume of the main track, along with many other things.

In the controller that appears click "learn" and manipulate a parameter on your physical device. You will notice that the number box labeled "note value" now displays a number value that corresponds to that parameter of your MIDI device:

Now you'll be able to assign that controller to almost any parameter inside the Sensory Perucssion plugin. Repeat step 3 for each of the buttons on your physical MIDI device that you want to assign to parameters in Sensory Percussion.

Additionally, MIDI CC messages from the plugin cannot directly control elements of Ableton's UI. In order to control knobs, buttons, and faders in Ableton from the Sensory Percussion plugin, you either have to:

Bref, a compact synthesizer plugin, specializes in creating synthetic percussion sounds. Utilizing a modified version of Ephemere's synthesis engine, Bref effortlessly produces a vast array of short, crisp metallic sounds.

When recording the instruments we modified the studio to be as transparent as possible, enhancing the raw sound of each drum. Each instrument features up to 3 microphone positions, and plenty of velocity layers/round robins, covering a wide collection of articulations and utilizing multiple drum zones and hand strokes..

Percussion instruments, and hand Percussion in particular, offer so much more diversity beyond traditional articulations. Especially when expanding them with extended and unique playing methods. In doing so, each instrument becomes a world of sound and detailed nuance, giving you an opportunity for expressive thematic writing.

It adds a layer of real time gestural sounds, simulating typical vibrations and hand noises that occur when moving between articulations. Appropriate sounds are added during playback and react to speed and dynamics.

In FHP we sampled unique Left and Right hand samples for ALL articulations (!)
When designing the MIDI mapping layout, we completed the original 2-hand premise and mapped the Left and Right hand samples symmetrically in a mirror-like fashion.

We also simulated the physical location of articulations as it relates to the mapping layout so triggering sounds from the center of the keyboard, is respective to articulations played on the center of the drum skin.

I wish I could give this 5 stars, but the UI is probably the worst aesthetic I've ever experienced in a plugin. You can't hear what it looks like, so I'm shrugging at that as the rest of it is excellent.

This plugin focuses on doing one thing very well, and it succeeds in its aims admirably. If you want the instruments flying hands offers, at a detail level and playability hard to find anywhere else, this is well worth the money. It is intelligently thought out with percussionists in mind, using quality samples. I am thoroughly enjoying playing with these sounds so far.
