Chalo Ishq Ladaaye: A Bollywood Comedy Film
Chalo Ishq Ladaaye (transl. Come, Let's Fall In Love) is a 2002 Indian comedy film directed by Aziz Sejawal, written by Ikram Akhtar, Imtiaz Patel and Yunus Sajawal, and produced by Vijay Mehta. The film features Govinda, Rani Mukerji, Zohra Sehgal and Kader Khan in the lead roles, with Sanjay Suri, Johnny Lever, Gulshan Grover and Suniel Shetty in supporting roles. The film was released on 27 December 2002 and received mixed reviews from critics. The film was a moderate success at the box office, earning 17 million against a budget of 40 million.
Plot
The film revolves around the lives of a popular but lonely Bollywood actress, Sapna (Rani Mukerji), and her number one fan, Pappu (Govinda). Sapna lives a fairly isolated life, though publicly she is thronged by fans, and has taken to drinking alcohol in a big way. One night, intoxicated, she runs her vehicle into Pappu, who suffers minor injuries. He recognises her and tells her that he is her number one fan and will do anything for her. She wants him to kill her double-timing boyfriend, Rahul (Sanjay Suri). He agrees to do so, provided she kills his overbearing grandmother (Zohra Sehgal), to which she agrees.
After Pappu completes his gruesome task, he meets with Sapna, only to be told that she does not recognise him. But when presented with proof, she relents and agrees to fulfill her part of this trade. She, along with Kokibhai (Kader Khan), arrive at the palatial home of Pappu's grandmother and set out to kill her. However, they face many obstacles and hilarious situations as they try to execute their plan.
Meanwhile, ACP Kamat (Gulshan Grover) already has evidence linking Pappu to Rahul's sudden death and has been keeping a close eye on his whereabouts. Pappu finds out that his grandmother's will had stated that after her death Pappu would get all her property. Pappu asks for forgiveness from his grandmother and confesses his love for Sapna. Meanwhile, Sapna finds out that Pappu had not killed Rahul and that he is still alive. She also realises that she loves Pappu too.
A blackmailer tells Sapna to bring 5 crores as ransom for Rahul's life. ACP Kamat tells his brothers about the money and plans to trap Sapna and Pappu. Kamat's assistant knows that there is something wrong and brings Pappu with him. His grandmother also comes along and kills all the bad guys with her martial arts skills. Pappu beats up ACP Kamat and saves Sapna and Rahul.
The film ends with Pappu telling his feelings to Suniel Shetty (in a special appearance), who takes him inside the theater where Sapna is waiting for him. Sapna tells Pappu her feelings too and they hug each other.

Soundtrack
The music of the film was composed by Himesh Reshammiya and the lyrics were written by Sameer. The soundtrack consists of six songs, sung by Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Udit Narayan, Vinod Rathod and Sudesh Bhosle. The songs are as follows:

Reception
The film received mixed reviews from critics. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave the film 2.5 stars out of 5 and wrote, "Chalo Ishq Ladaaye is a typical Govinda film that has its share of funny moments. But the problem is that the comedy is not consistent. The first half is quite entertaining, but the post-interval portions are a letdown. The climax is also predictable and clichéd." He praised the performances of Govinda, Rani Mukerji and Kader Khan, but criticised the direction, screenplay and music. He concluded, "On the whole, Chalo Ishq Ladaaye is an average fare that will appeal only to Govinda fans."
Rediff.com gave the film 1.5 stars out of 5 and wrote, "Chalo Ishq Ladaaye is a mindless comedy that tries hard to make you laugh but fails miserably. The film has a wafer-thin plot that is stretched beyond endurance. The jokes are stale and the situations are contrived. The film relies heavily on Govinda's comic timing, but even he seems to be repeating himself. Rani Mukerji looks glamorous but has nothing much to do. The rest of the cast is wasted in inconsequential roles. The music is average and the songs are unnecessary. The film is a disappointment for those who expect some quality entertainment from Bollywood."
The film was a moderate success at the box office, earning 17 million against a budget of 40 million. It was the 40th highest-grossing film of 2002 in India.
