* the slowest core!

heard about this on the BBC TV the other day:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/As_Slow_As_Possible
http://www.john-cage.halberstadt.de/new/index.php?seite=dasprojekt&l=e

it's a piece of music originally written by John Cage. It's performed in a church in Germany, started in 2001 (with one and a half year of silence!), it will last until 2640. The last sound change was on February 5, 2009. The next will be on July 5, 2010.

* heavy metal slowcore?

does it exist? If so, I would love to hear it. Closest thing I can think of right now are a couple of Soundgarden songs (such as Gun or Slaves And Bulldozers).

If you're talking about doom metal (or heavy metal slowcore, as it were), then pretty much anything on the Southern Lord label would work. Earth, Boris, Sunn0))), Grief Mule...

I second the recommendation for Bohren & der Club of Gore, whom I've
jokingly called "Godspeed You Private Detective!" in the past, and
who play a super-slow blend of doom metal, film noir soundtrack
music, and ambient. Lots of Rhodes, deep bass, foreboding
atmosphere, like a cross between "Born by the Wires" and a
straight-to-video horror movie with an ambitious soundtrack.

These are all great suggestions...I third the Bohren....and if you're
really looking for slow from them, their album Geisterfaust, is their
most sparse.....perfectly sparse, in my opinion, but I don't really
consider it metal, although the band has a metal background.

I always joked to my girlfriend, that some Low songs were only a
distortion pedal away from being Khanate. To prove my point I ran the
song "Landlord" through a distortion effect. She wasn't convinced,
cause she hates Khanate, but deep down I think she knew I was right,
haha. Anyway, check out "Things Viral" by Khanate, or their newest
one, "Clean Hands Go Foul".

I'll throw "Black Boned Angel" into that mix.  It is Birchville Cat Motel (Campbell Kneale) doing his thing, but with the amps at 11.
