I'm new here; I'm grateful that this newsgroup exists, it might be a
way of sharing the knowledge of all of us spread out all over the
world.
looking through my old notes, I'd have a few questions on tsuzuki
usucha.
(1) in the usucha part, after having purified the natsume, the fukusa
goes temporarily into the left hand. how is it transferred from the
right hand and held in the left hand? (in the right hand, it is folded
as whan prepared for purifying a natsume, but with the fold inside the
hand; is this fold unfolded when putting the fukusa into the left
hand? if yes, are the tips of the fukusa pointing upwards or downwards
when in the left hand? if no, is the fold in the left hand pointing
inside or outside the left hand? sorry for not being able to describe
it in a better way)
(2) after the action described in my question (1), is it correct that
the fukusa is unfolded and put on the obi after taking out chasen of
the chawan, moving the chawan closer to the body, and taking out the
chakin? (or is the fukusa put on the obi directly after the transfer
to the left hand?)
(3) doing chasen tôshi with the usucha chawan, which action is
correct?
a) putting the chasen into the chawan (down at rim at 3:00), lift up
once, put down again, and then whisk briefly
b) putting the chasen into the chawan (rim at 3:00), don't lift it for
inspection, just whisk directly
c) put the chasen into the chawan and whisk directly, without putting
it ever down at 3:00 on the chawan rim
(4) for the koicha part, I know that you have to face sotozumi (ro
season); how is it for the usucha part? do you change to sotozumi when
entering and sitting down with the usucha chawan?
(5) if using a tana, in the end, after the shôkyaku has requested
haiken, do you put hishaku+futaoki directly on the tana (usucha style)
or do you put it first on/at the kensui and then on the tana (koicha
style?)
(6) I have only done this temae for ro, so I wonder: after purifying
the natsume, where would you put it for furo?
thank you for addressing these questions. I appreciate your time!

I don't know if anybody else answered you so I'll give it a shot. I
tried to get to all the points you asked about, mostly I just left
your descriptions that were correct and took out the rest. Let me
know if you want anything explained better and I'll do my best to
clear it up.
All the best to you and your practice,
Aaron

No, it stays folded as is and transfered directly to the left hand,
just the opposite of how it was in the right hand, in your words, the
fold in the left hand points to the outside the left hand (so the the
fold is toward the right)
(2) after the action described in my question (1),
it is correct that the fukusa is unfolded and put on the obi after
taking the chasen out of
the chawan, moving the chawan closer to the body, and taking out the

(4) for the koicha part, I know that you have to face sotozumi (ro

entering and sitting down with the usucha chawan?
yes, sit sotozumi for the entire temae
(5) if using a tana, in the end, after the shôkyaku has requested
haiken, do you put hishaku+futaoki directly on the tana (usucha style)

koicha style, on the kensui first
(6) I have only done this temae for ro, so I wonder: after purifying
the natsume, where would you put it for furo?
Same place as ro, just above and right of kensui kata (between the
kensui and the chawan, lower than the chaire). (a little abstract, if
you imagine that kensui kata is often the location for a chasen, place
the natsume a proper distance according to how it would ordinarily be
placed when next to that chasen)
