Marius,

I found this page that has two diagrams that have some measurements on them. They use an old measuring system though. http://www.bluestone.co.jp/meiboku/mizuya/mizuyazai.html
Good luck.

    Hi

I'm currently building myself a new Tea room, as some of you might have
seen in my blog ( blog.chado.no/search/label/The Making of Chashitsu ).

I have run in to a small problem that I hope someone can help me with. I
tried to make shelves in the mizuya, but they turned out all wrong. So I
need some help finding out the proper size and spacing of the shelves. I
realize that this might depend on many things, but if I could have the
measurements of a sulotion that works nice for others it might work for me
    to.

    - How deep is each of the shelves?
    - What is the distance from the top of the first shelve down to the top
    of the tatami?
    - What is the distance between each of the shelves? Is it constant so
that the distance between 1 and 2 is the same as between 2 and 3 and so on?

I would very much appreciate if someone could help me with these
    measurements.

Dear Marius

I have used two Japanese book as a good source for inspiration while building my tea room/mizuya. There are some good pictures and suggestions for the arrangement of the shelfs in the mizuya.

ISBN978-4-473-03587-5

and

ISBN4-473-02073-8

I dont think there is any fixed measurements for the shelfs, but I believe that you can use the measurements in the books as a good guideline.

If its not possible for you to get hold of the books please let me know then. I can scan the important pages for you.

If youre are in Copenhagen please feel welcome to contact me if you would like to visit my tea room and to share a bowl of o-matcha :-) all the best.

Thank you this link was very helpful. Though that web page I could have ordered most of the mizu-ya items. Well maybe sometime in the future I'll upgrade the mizu-ya with proper items from this shop. Anyway the link was very helpfull as I could find shelf height, width and so on from the diagram.

Thank you for finding it for me. Since I do not read kanji I would never have found the page.
