I need a proper tetsubin -- does anyone know where I can buy either a
new or lightly used one for $300 or so?

Thank you! That's a fabulous site and they definitely have some
appropriate and affordable tetsubin. Have you ordered from them
before?

One thing to keep in mind that most of the "tetsubin" sold for ko-cha have a coating on the inside that can not withstand boiling. In other words it is designed to have almost boiling water poured from your water boiler into it, not be placed on top of a electrical element and be heated there for hours.... I own something similar to those shown on the page. In addition to the problem with the coating they are very difficult to pour from with out getting drops all over the place. If I were you I would invest a bit more and get a tetsubin or ginbin (which are my favorite after watching my smaller students almost kill their back when they try to lift the heavy tetsubin). The problem with that is that you need to know someone in Japan that can send you one.

I know this is an older topic, however it anyone is looking at purchasing a new tetsubin I would suggest Hojo Tea:

http://hojotea.com/indexe.html

A large variety of tetsubin at a wide ranges of prices from three well-known and respected brands from both Yamagata and Nambu are available.  However, (for all of us in the U.S.) due to the weak U.S. dollar & the strong yen everything from Japan is running more expensive these days.
