Sandy Creek Nature Center, Inc.’s Founders Award 2017
PROGRAM SUMMARY
The Board of Directors of Sandy Creek Nature (SCNC, Inc.) is looking for teachers who are passionate about teaching science and dedicated to challenging and supporting all students.
The Founders Award seeks to encourage, recognize, and promote science education in the Clarke County School District by providing a one-time stipend of $300 to one elementary, middle, and high school science teacher.
Funds may be used for classroom materials, i.e. books, consumables, resources for the teacher, or enrichment activities such as field trips. A short narrative will be required by the end of the school year describing how the funds were used. Receipts will not be necessary.
Award recipients will be recognized at the Annual Meeting of Sandy Creek Nature Center, Inc., in press releases, and at their school at the beginning of the 2017 school year.

Amount of each award: $300
MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR APPLICATION
● Application cover sheet that includes: ● name
● current mailing address (home or school)
● telephone number
● e-mail address
● CCSD school in which you teach
● grade level you teach
● how you found out about the Sandy Creek Nature Center Founders Award
● One short essay that clearly describes your commitment to science education. Describe why teaching science is important and include personal experiences in the classroom that demonstrate your commitment and student success. Provide specific examples of collaboration with other teachers. (350 words max).
● One lesson plan for which these funds might be used. A strong plan will include the format that is expected by your school, the standards you will address, an engaging student activity, and evidence of learning (evaluation). The lesson plan must include an extension of the concept that goes above and beyond school expectations, i.e. interdisciplinary integration or description of project(s) that students may pursue to extend their learning and interest beyond the lesson. This could include a field trip.
● Two Letters of Recommendation. Please provide the name and e-mail address of two individuals (fellow teacher, principal, parent, or colleague) who will each write a short statement addressing your strengths as a teacher. These individuals will receive e-mail instructions for submitting their recommendations online (250 words max).
