CGNRC/RRCs: This is to e-introduce you to Mr. Joe Montoya, TRICARE FEDVIP, copied above.   Joe has appeared in past issues of The Retiree Newsletter and he continues to be a valued partner in connecting our retirees with needed health information/resources.   I invite you to coordinate with Joe in messaging TRICARE FEDVIP to your area retirees, including participation in events like the Northern California CG Retiree Council (NCCGRC) All-Service Retiree Appreciation Day.   2020 TRICARE Open Season and related information from Ms. Tina Martin (CG PPC) is also included below for messaging to our retiree community.

Hello Bob, it has been awhile and I hope all is well with you. I am now with Blue Cross Blue Shield FEDVIP.  I am working on scheduling FEDVIP Dental and Vision events at RADs and any other gatherings of retirees.  If all possible could you send me any USCG events dates, times and point of contact information.  We are looking forward to supporting the USCG retirees at their events.  Bob, take care and have a great Fall.

Subject: TRICARE West Region e-Updates September 2019

Hi Bob,

I don’t know if you get this or if you would want to use any of it but thought worth sharing!

Tina

September 2019

  1. 2020 TRICARE open season. Get ready for this year’s TRICARE open season starting Nov. 11 thru Dec. 9, 2019. During open season, beneficiaries eligible for a TRICARE Prime or Select plan option may enroll in or change their TRICARE plans. If you choose to do nothing, you will remain in your current health plan through 2020 or as long as you are eligible. Enrollment choices made during open season this year will be effective Jan. 1, 2020.

  2. What to do after receiving emergency care. Emergency conditions are those that affect life, limb or eyesight. If you received emergency care, you may need to take appropriate steps afterward to avoid unexpected costs. If you are enrolled in TRICARE Prime, you must notify your physician of any emergency room visits and coordinate all follow-up care with your primary care manager (or HNFS if you don’t have one). If you are enrolled in TRICARE Select, use TRICARE for Life or have other health insurance, you do not need to coordinate follow-up care with HNFS, but you should notify your physician of any emergency room visits.

  3. Rate update for premium-based plans. Effective Jan. 1, 2020, monthly premium rates for TRICARE Young Adult, TRICARE Reserve Select and TRICARE Retired Reserve will change. Initial payments must be paid with a credit card, along with a request for automatic payments using electronic funds transfer or recurring credit card payment options. Ongoing monthly payments must be paid by an automatic payment method. (Recurring payments for TRICARE Young Adult via allotment is coming soon! Look for updates in future “In Case You Missed It” emails.)

  4. Don’t forget to update the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS). Keeping your information updated in DEERS is important so you don’t miss enrollment deadlines and other important TRICARE information. Remember, TRICARE eligibility is based on the information in DEERS.

  5. DoD Self-Service Logon for secure portal access. HNFS offers a secure online portal for beneficiaries to access TRICARE information. The quickest and most preferred way to register is by using your Department of Defense (DoD) Self-Service (DS) Logon, if you have one. If you do not have a DS Logon, you can still register by following the online prompts. Once you’re logged in, you can securely access authorization and referral letters, eligibility information, claim status, Explanations of Benefits, and more.

  6. Back-to-school preventive health care. With school back in session, help keep your children healthy by taking advantage of preventive services, routine immunizations and health screenings. TRICARE covers many preventive health care services with no out-of-pocket costs. Those enrolled in TRICARE Prime plans can seek preventive care from a primary care manager, or any TRICARE network provider in your region. You may see a non-network provider with no copayment if a network provider is not available and you have a referral.  TRICARE Select patients can visit any TRICARE-authorized provider.

  7. Electronic health records update. MHS GENESIS is the DoD’s new electronic health record. This new health record will replace more than 60 legacy systems across the Military Health System, and will fully deploy in military hospitals by 2024. This news system will offer you and your family a single record for medical and dental care, and secure messaging with providers. You will also have access to your medical records, appointments and more. Visit the MHS GENESIS page at health.mil for more information.

  8. Be prepared for a natural disaster. Weather and natural disasters are unpredictable and can affect anyone at any time. While you can’t predict when disaster will strike, you can take steps to be prepared for wildfires, floods, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Disasters may alter your access to TRICARE benefits such as prescriptions and medical resources. Sign up for disaster alerts to access important TRICARE information, keep medical information in a safe and easy-to-find location and keep prescriptions stocked and medical devices ready in case of evacuations.

  9. Vitamin D deficiency. Visit Choosing Wisely® for information on lifestyle changes that can improve your intake of vitamin D and help determine whether or not you need to have a screening test.

  10. How healthy are you? Find out today. Take our Health Risk Assessment and receive your results instantly, along with a tailored plan to live healthier, and resources to help you move forward.
