I finished writing the music for it in 2004, but the road to getting
it recorded was much longer than I anticipated. The music is deeper
and harder to play than first fall night, so the longest part of the
process was learning to play the music well. I recorded it in
December, but was still unsatisfied with much of it, so went back into
the studio in April to re-record seven tracks. That session wrapped
things up!
It was recorded at Imaginary Road Studios, near Brattleboro, VT. It's
Will Ackerman's studio, and he has an interesting story about the
piano. Really fine pianos are a lot of work and worry to maintain-
particularly when it comes to temperature and humidity. Will had not
intended to have a piano in the studio, and for several recordings he
produced, he would fly out to California with the pianist to record
piano tracks. Eventually he encountered a pianist that convinced him
instead to rent a piano to use in Will's studio. The piano they
decided on to rent was delivered to the studio and turned out to be
one of those rare, truly exceptional pianos I refer to as "magical".
When I first played it, the decision as to where to record was
instantly made.
The engineer for the project was Corin Nelsen, whose work on Will's
stunning Returning album won him a Grammy in 2004. He also co-
produced the album with me, my brother Andy, and Shawn Brenneman. It
was mastered by the world's most distinguished mastering engineer, Bob
Ludwig.
Included in the first printing of the CD (and maybe subsequent
printings) is a twelve minute bonus CD. I won't say anything about it
except that I'm looking forward to seeing what you all think about
it...
The CD will be available at cdbaby.com, Amazon, and iTunes initially,
and am working to get broader distribution later in the fall.
I'll be taking orders for multiple copies, just like for first fall
night, ***BUT- here's a special offer for mailing list members. I'd
be glad to send you a single copy, signed if you want, for a pre-order
of $15. Here's the new order form:

Many folks have asked about sheet music- three books of sheet music
are almost ready for release. I'll send another email announcing
their release, but if you are tempted to order some, please let me
know ( ma...@matthewlabarge.com) to help me plan for printing. I'll
write you back with a description of the three I'm working on, plus
ask you some questions about what else you might like to have scored.
Thanks! I can't wait to hear what you think of the new music!
