Hey Guys

Couple of things to do today

1, The first activity we will do today is to do at least one word processing exercise from the book. Once we have saved the exercise on the local computer/network we will up load to google docs which is our cloud storage.

You can also make up documents directly in Google docs

Once it goes up to Google it lives on the internet and you can then control who has access to it and how you share it - i will show you how to this in class or check this video

There are lots of video tutorials on the web to show you how to do Google docs -it may be fun to have a look around to see what you find helpful-post back on the group any info you have found useful

2, The second thing I want to do is practice making up hyper links or linking things on the web

Every thing on the internet -including your google docs -has an address or URL the place it lives

Normal text or writing is liner -we start and the beginning of a document and most of the time read through to the end . Its normally has a start and a finish. However on the internet is different because we can have links on documents/ pages which can take us all over the place, surfing on the web. This is called hyper text , notice I have done a link which leads to a wikpedia article. It may be a good idea to read/watch these articles at home.

Doing it is easy and fun

2.1 Go to this article which is some tourist advice of things to do in Perth and Fremantle

2.2 Copy the words and paste into a new google word processing document Docs/Create New/ Document -then paste

2.3 Check out a key word eg , Fremantle, Perth , swim etc -copy this word and paste it into a search engine ( google or bling )

2.4 You may come across all sorts of interesting, information , articles , maps , pictures or movies -find something which takes your fancy and copy the URL -http thing in top of your browser

2.5 Go back to you document and highlight the word -then you the link button (looks like a chain ) to paste in your URL

You have just created a hyper link

2.6 Keep on practicing by linking words in the article -you can link to a variety of objects -pictures , web pages , movies and sounds. Try different things , it could be informative , amusing or even annoying. Main thing is to have a play and have fun

2.7 Save the document -allow any one with the link to view and post back into group
