Dear Editor:

On behalf of the Hoboken Republicans and the Hudson County Young
Republicans, I am writing to encourage your readers to become
well-informed citizens before the November 4th. Presidential Election.
On a local level, one might believe Hudson County residents do not
have any significant say in deciding New Jersey's 15 electoral votes,
but we strongly disagree. According to the most recent statistics on
the Census Bureau's website, Hudson County has the 5th largest amount
of residents, trailing only Bergen, Middlesex, Essex and Monmouth
Counties, respectively. For many years, the Democrat Party has
maintained a stranglehold on this county's political position.
Unquestionably, local leaders will feel the pressure to support
Senator Barack Obama from not only high-ranking officials in the
Democrat Party in Trenton but from Howard Dean at the DNC in
Washington.

While it may be easier to reach out to Latino/Hispanic residents in
Hudson County, I am writing to all residents to vote for the candidate
who unquestionably has a proven track record for change in the
nation's capital. Senator John McCain has demonstrated he has obtained
the necessary experience and has provided the solid leadership
required to lead this country as not only Commander-In-Chief but as
the leader of the free world. Unfortunately, it is impossible to
expect the mainstream media to provide any sort of accurate reporting
concerning the two candidates running for President. With such a
strong Hispanic/Latino population in Hudson County, it represents a
reflection of the landscape on a national basis.

As the son of two hard-working immigrants, I have seen firsthand the
opportunities bestowed to my parents and as a First-Generation
American, I have learned what a strong work ethic, respect for the
rule of law and a love for democracy represents. The Democrat Party
has claimed for many years it is the party who has the best interests
in mind concerning the Hispanic/Latino population. This could not be
any further from the truth. The Republican Party have been advocates
for smaller government, a strong national defense and proven
strategies to boost the economic climate in this country. Senator
McCain embodies these principles. He has been campaigning on making
the tax cuts permanent, finding solutions for energy independence and
maintaining the strength of our national security. I implore the
residents of Hudson County to examine the positions of Senator Obama,
and they will soon realize it is the wrong choice for America. Raising
taxes, increasing the size of government and a relaxed foreign policy
will doom the United States. We cannot entrust the most important
office in the land to an individual with questionable personal ties
and even more questionable positions on issues, which affect us all.

Respectfully,
Fernando Uribe Jr.
Chairman-Hudson County Young Republicans
