Hi Friends,

I found a job that looks quite interesting. I hope someone finds this
job useful. Have a great weekend!

Best,

Talise

Do you want to work with a key constituency promoting one of the UK’s
top foreign policy priorities across the United States?

Background:

Tackling climate change is one of the British Government’s top foreign
policy priorities. We recognise that this has to be the work of many
governments and other organisations, acting together over many years.
The role of the United States will be central to whether we succeed in
the years ahead at putting in place an effective international
response to this inter-generational challenge.

Reflecting the importance of the US role, the British Embassy in
Washington DC is seeking a highly qualified individual with a track
record in project and policy delivery to be a Climate Change Advisor
for Business, based in the British Consulate General in New York, as
part of its new National Climate Change Team (NCCT). This Climate
Change Advisor will work with a wide range of stakeholders across the
US on this issue, and will complement the work of the existing Energy
and Environment Team in the Embassy’s Global Issues Group. The Global
Issues Group leads the British Government’s overall engagement with
the United States on climate change.

The NCCT will work with the British Government’s network of nine
Consulates, co-ordinating their work on climate change issues across
all 50 states. The team will include two other Climate Change
Advisors, a ‘States and Cities Manager’ and a ‘Civil Society Manager,’
both based in Washington, DC.

The Business Manager in New York will be responsible for maintaining
relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at the state level,
including Wall Street, industry, unions, Chambers of Commerce, trade
groups and regional associations. His/her role will be to support and
build on the UK’s relationships and partnerships with these
constituencies, emphasising how US business can play a lead role
taking forward low carbon, high growth initiatives. This advisor will
also work closely with the UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) network in the
US, headquartered in NY, which is looking to promote British business
interests around climate change, for example in the fields of carbon
trading and clean technology.

The successful candidate will be a credible interlocutor with CEO's,
directors, senior partners, industry and manufacturing
representatives, high tech/IT executives, the presidents of trades
unions and municipal, state and regional business groups. He/she will
be highly motivated, professional, articulate, and able to represent
British policy at the highest levels. He/she will also be committed to
tackling climate change, and pragmatic in how to do so.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*

Act as a senior representative of the British Government on
climate change to a wide range of key decision-makers in the business
world, advocating the British position to these US stakeholders.
*

Develop and maintain a wide range of high-level contacts within
the business constituency, and use those contacts to arrange meetings
for the Ambassador, the Consul General and high-level UK visitors with
senior US business people.
*

Identify opportunities for advancing collaboration with the
business constituency, and manage risks.
*

Design, develop and participate in visits programmes and events
that strengthen links between the business constituency and its
counterparts in the UK and the EU, working closely with the project
and programme managers in the NCCT and the British Consulates across
the US.
*

Regular travel out of New York to engage the business
constituency, working with the British Consulates and other partners
across the US.
*

Provide advice and handle requests from London, and perform
other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

*

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree required.
*

At least three to five years of federal or state-level
government, academic, commercial, or NGO experience in the US, and a
strong climate change background are essential. Good connections into
the climate change community or those constituencies described above
are beneficial.
*

Must be able to represent the British Government at external
meeting and win the confidence of senior officials, businessmen, and
British ministers. Prior knowledge of UK policy a plus.
*

Flexibility in a team setting, with a robust team-working
approach to work is essential.
*

Ability to work independently, and take responsibility for
initiating and managing projects.
*

Clear and concise oral and written skills, including best
practice presentational skills.
*

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook
and Web Access.

Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy may only employ,
as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card
holders or A Visa holders. If you hold a Visa other than an A Visa you
are not currently eligible to work at the Embassy. Successful
candidates will be subject to background checks and security
clearance.

Note: There is an expectation that the successful candidate will be
travelling out of New York for at least 2 working weeks every month.

The British Embassy Network offers a competitive salary and a strong
benefits package. This package includes medical, dental, vision, life,
long term and short term disability insurance, a 401(k) retirement
savings plan, generous vacation and leave time, and an enriching
training package.
