Dear all,

I would appreciate if somebody could support me for the "Journal
presentation" for Thursday. it would be good to have at least one more
presenter and we need a powerpoint. The powerpoint could subsequently
be turned into a pdf and serve as a flyer giving a quick introduction
into our project. I believe that this will help in getting the Journal
Weekends and articles started.

Could anyone help?

Dear all,

In the Files Section of our Google-group you find a first version for
a presentation of the journal. It is really but a first version and
still needs changes and additions. I would strongly appreciate if each
of you could contribute at least a tiny bit and send the new version
around.

WHAT IS THE CONCEPT OF THIS PRESENTATION?

* The presentation is designed as a dialogue to make it more
personal. If you find a text that you like, please make that "your
quote" (and obviously change it if you like). Then the presentation is
not "dead" but the dream of a multinational network is communicated.
* The presentation runs automatic (at least part of it) so that
it's interesting for a person who downloads it and watches it alone
(so that this group effort is not for Thursday but for generally
making it easier to communicated to others what the Journal does -->
This means we save time if we do this one really well, so please help.

With best wishes,

Dirk

Hi Dirk,

My computer only supports .ppt / .doc not the new ones so I don't know how to contribute. Also, I can't seem to access the website.  Keep me posted!

Best,
Denise

Hi,
this maybe because I am working on an Ubuntu open office based system but the fonts seem to be over lapping with each other in the presentation. I am not going to edit it because I really dont know if I will be screwing things up in the process!
If you can add the following points it will be great:

1. cultural differences between North and South: the less developed versus developed countries angles. the idea of 'traditional indigenous knowledge' in the South versus 'modern ideas' of the North. (uncovering myths and bringing in facts)
2. the current debates on the role of the Southern countries versus the North (COP issues)

Another factor that can be added is that bring in issues of sustainable development and not just energy efficiency in the ppl. this will open up the scope. (and go back to the 1st pt tht i mentioned)

Hope this helps!
Thanks so much for doing this. It does not look like I wil be able to join tomorrow.. So good luck and keep the group posted!

Dear all,

Thanks for the comments on the presentation. I still need people to
sign up for the "quotes" in the presentation (or change them as you
want them) to make the presentation personal. Please see the text and
tell me some quotes or sign up for one. WE NEED EVERYONE TO DO THIS.
Remember that the idea of these quotes is to make it more personal and
to convey an interntionalist message - it does not work if it is all
signed by German names.

To Krittika: The problem is to do with Ubuntu, it needs Windows for
editing but for the final version we can offer a pdf so there are no
problems for Linux users like us.
To Denise: I will upload a ppt-version.

ABOUT THE TIME LINE: I am sorry that I did not reply on time, I wanted
to leave this decision to you. However, the time line as it is now
means that we cannot produce the journal in "Journal Weekends" as
discussed before. My understanding was that in each city there would
be two meetings, one in the summer, one in the winter - which would
take place at the same time for a nice globalist atmosphere when
writing the articles. Then participants would not need to invest more
than a total of two weekends per year in order to meaningfully
contribute and I believed that we would communicate this as a selling-
point of this project compared to normal NGO work.

Now the publication date of the journal is before such an event could
take place. And the central event is in October -which at least here
is in the middle of the academic year so at least in Cambridge it will
be very hard to convince people to participate. Of course, holidays
and exam periods are all overlapping, but would it help to vote on
this? And how do you see the role of two journal-weekends/year in
this? In my understanding such two central events appeared as the
easiest and least stressful way to produce the journal. And the idea
of globally-linked meetings also appeared to me as an inspiring
selling-point for participating in the journal.

What do you think?
Sorry for going back to the time-line discussion. I am sorry that I
missed the boat back then. I would be grateful for consideration of
these concerns.

Best wishes,

Dirk

Dear all,

I have uploaded a ppt version.
@ Dayo: Sure, every edit is very welcome. Please let us fill this with
live. I suggest to turn all texts into quotes and sign with
differently-sounding names so that it appears more alive.

Btw: I changed the homepage of our website: hope you like it.

Best wishes,

Dirk

Dear Dirk,
I am ok with the changes you suggested in the time line. We do have to look at the availability of people in order for them to contribute best. So if the group thinks that is the best way to go forward, I have no issues.
I however, did not completely understand the dates that you mentioned. If you can let me know again and if every one agrees, I will change the wiki accordingly.
