Thanks, Dan. The invitation to present on the Online CFMeetup is wide open to all of you. Please reply here on-list if interested (more on that request in a moment). First, let me share some insider info.
Sadly, I’ve made the offer on the speaker lists of other recent CF conferences and the offer has fallen on deaf ears. Rarely have more than a couple speakers taken up the offer. I do so wish that was not the case, but it’s led me not to want to beat a dead horse. Indeed, as some of you may have noticed, I’ve had only a couple speakers on this whole year. Getting speakers has become like pulling teeth and I’ve grown weary of the effort. But if you’re open, I’d love to have you. There were so many great sessions.
I know some of you disdain doing online sessions due to lack of interaction, but given that the rooms at cfsummit were so large and you could hardly see more than a subset of your attendees, it seems hardly different online. We heard from Jason on reasons he’s averse to a conference recording sessions, and he added some reasons that I suppose some may hold against even recording on the CFMeetup: “As a speaker, do you want Adobe distributing *your* content for free with no residual payments? Is your session more likely to be selected by another conference if it is already available online to their attendees?”
So those are some of the reasons I realize some of you may not take up the offer, but please know that people would LOVE to see the content, and the community really benefits from the content being available. There are many topics that are only ever presented once at a conference and never again. Such a shame to see that content lost. Plus, you who are consultants can gain clients from being in front of them and sharing your knowledge. And with the recording, that info is there “in perpetuity”, as Scott Stroz would want to point out. :-)
I realize that if you’re holding a topic out to present at cfobjective 2014 or something, you’ll maybe not be interested. But consider also that sometimes presenting a talk a couple times makes it better—and trust me, there are many who do NOT watch the Online CFMeetup sessions or recordings (despite 2700+ members) so you really will not lose “all your audience” at a future talk just because you did it online several months before. :-)
If any of you are not so averse to it and would at least consider it, please reply to me here, on the list. I usually ask for replies off list, but maybe that’s my mistake, if people assume others have “taken care of filling the trough”. They rarely have. So perhaps some need to see others joining in to be encouraged. Be part of the solution! ;-)
I’ve changed the subject so that those flatly against the topic can ignore it. Thanks to Dan, Ray, etc. for suggesting it.

Any speaker who wants a recording of their preso should consider contacting Charlie Arehart. The online ColdFusion meetup is a great place to record and present your topics.

Looking forward to Brad’s talk Tuesday (today/tomorrow, depending on when you read this).
Any other takers? People want to see your talks.

FYI, I'll be re-presenting my Intro to ORM talk this Tuesday on Charlie's CF Online Meetup.
What is the schedule for the next few weeks?

Wide open. I have no speakers. Brad is the first in a few months. It’s a desert out there, and the people are parched. There are over 100 registrants for Brad’s talk today. :-)
I’m open to scheduling any date, whether according to our traditional schedule, or one more convenient to you, our speakers.
More on the above points, in a moment.

What is the schedule for the next few weeks?
Following up my last note, If anyone needs further testament to the need for/interest in these online meetings:
- let’s note that for various reasons we only were able to announce Brad’s session today very late Friday night (11:30pm), then we had the weekend, then we had a US federal holiday yesterday, and yet today there are 100 registrants. AND we scheduled it on a Tuesday, for various other reason, and STILL there’s this great turnout.
- Add to that the fact that the group still has about 2800 real members, and meetup.com eventually drops those whose emails bounce, that’s a pretty thriving community that wants to hear your talks, speakers. :-)
And to Dan’s question, I am open to setting up a meetup anytime. We previously did do Thursdays at 12 or 6p ET. When I started to have few speakers the past year, I wondered if having too many choices for speakers led them to figure they didn’t need to commit. So I changed things earlier this year to make it the first and third Thursdays at 12, and the second and fourth at 6p, thinking that fewer slots might make them easier to fill. That didn’t happen (as obviously, that was not the problem).
Again, people want to hear/see your talks, and while we they do always come out live (usually 30-100 depending on the talk), many also do love watching the recordings, and sharing them with others. I’d think any speaker who’s put blood, sweat, and tears into their session would want to see it shown to as many people as possible. And while I realize some speakers may not want to “dilute interest” in a talk they hope to present in an upcoming conference, what about talks you gave last month and won’t give again? Or last quarter? Or last year? Or even older? Many topics are as vital now as when you presented them.
The thing is, Not everyone attends conferences, reads blogs, or even sees every previous meetup. So there’s no topic that you should hesitate about presenting, if it’s at all related to CF.
Hope folks will please consider stepping up, for the good of the community. And trust me, if you think I press this for any personal gain, I do not. Running the meetup involves far more “work” than “reward”. I “do it for the kids“, for the sake of the community of course. :-) It’s just like pulling teeth to get speakers, sadly. But again, people clearly DO want to see your sessions.
Please respond here, not to me personally, so that others see the conversation. I know some won’t even read my notes when they’re more than a paragraph or two (which is why I split this into another, to make sure folks saw my main answer to Dan). Your responses to this may drive interest in the conversation.
