Hey guys,

I never got any response from the last question on whether anyone is
using the newest version of slideshowpro with the cfssp, so I suppose
either no one is using it or more likely, no one is having trouble with
it.

I have had some renewed interest in cfssp lately, so I guess ill get
back into developing the next version. I am going on vacation the
first week of july so I will be working on it then. So what I need is
some more input about what you guys want to see in the next version.
Some of the things Im thinking about for the next version:

stronger validation of album titles, to not allow any characters
besides spaces, a-z and 0-9.

Better resizing. Some users have noticed trouble with portrait
pictures. This is because currently cfssp resizes based on width, not
height, and you usually have your ssp movie as a landscape. this will
take the width and height of the picture, and do the resize based on
the longer of the two.

Batch processing. The way this will probably work is allow you to
upload a folder of images to your server, create a new album and input
its information, you tell it where to find the pictures and it will go
through them and resize all in one batch and add them to the album.
You would then have to go back through and add the captions and links
for each image though.

Thats about all the feedback Ive had. The validation and resizing will
defiantely make it in the next version, im not sure about the batch
processing. If anyone has a better idea of how to do the multiple
image rezising and all let me know. And if you have anything else you
would like to see, let me know that too.

I will also probably be redoing the cfssp website as well. I have had
a few trouble with it. Also, the forums are mia at the moment, im not
sure if they will be back or not. They we're not being used much
anyway.

Let me know what you guys think. Feel free to contact me via this list
or personally at ryan...@gmail.com.

Thanks,
Ryan Guill

Hey Ryan -

Sorry for the belated response. One point I would encourage you to
look into is making your app available for non-Windows servers. A
couple of friends of mine who are CF developers were interested in
it, but after looking into it informed me it was unusable for them
because of the Windows requirement. I don't know jack about what's
involved here, but going forward it would probably be better to
support more than one server platform. My 2 cents. :)

Hey Todd, sorry for the belated response as well, I just got back from vacation.

The problems with not being able to use my software on linux is not
because of my code as much as it is with the java component being used
to resize the pictures. Java on linux machines have trouble with
image manipulation in many instances for some reason. Many times the
java environment can be tweaked to allow it to work but sometimes it
just plain doesnt work. Unless I find another free way to do the
manipulations, either without the java image manipulation or just a
different way that does work, there really isnt a lot I can do. A mac
platform should work, and there may be an update to the jai library
now, but thats about all I can do for it. If you do the image
manipulation on your own and modify my software to leave out that step
(which should be relatively easy for someone used to coldfusion) you
should still probably be able to find the software useful.
