Hello all,
Volunteer department is now preparing 2 big events: 1) Chinese Community Health Day and 2) Clean-up Chinatown. Both events require lots of volunteers to help. Please see below the brief description of each activity and requirement for the volunteers. Keep in mind that both activities require volunteers’ help before and after of the events. If you are interested (or your friend) please let us know as soon as possible so we can start our planning. The most important things is to let us know your availability and if you have any special skills that can be assign to a specific team, but general help is also very important. Once we receive all the replies we will assign task according to your availability.
1) Chinese Community Health Day: Saturday, August 23, 2008. The objective of this event is to inform and sensitize the Chinese community at large towards health issues. During the “Chinese Community Health Day”, we will be holding 4 different health related workshops, info desks (related to health) and blood pressure test station. For these activities we will need the following volunteers: 1) Interpreters for the Health Workshops: French to Mandarin, English to Mandarin, Mandarin to Cantonese or Cantonese to Mandarin. (The person will received the information beforehand) 2) Guardians for children’s activity: for face painting, arts/crafts, games etc… (10am-4pm) 3) Guiders & receptionists: the task is to welcoming people, show direction of each activity, maintain order etc… (9am-4pm) 4) Medical students/nurses or retired nurse/doctor: for taking blood pressure and giving simple advise (10am-4pm) 5) General helpers: preparation of the location, decorating the location, final clean-up, and all other general help.
2) Annual Clean-up Chinatown: Saturday, September 6, 2008. The event is to promote the neighborhood care for Chinatown among citizens, to strengthen the bond between different Chinese generations in Montreal, and to promote mutual appreciation and admiration between the Chinese and the greater Montreal community. 1) M.C.: need 2 MC to host the entire activity on the stage, one to speak French the other Mandarin. (9am-3pm) 2) Skit team: Need 6-8 people to practice & perform the Recycling Skit (9-3pm) 3) Sound system & music operator: 1-2 to operate the sound system (9-3pm) 4) Clean-up: Need 100 volunteers (10am-3pm)
