First, I want to tell that this is a really nice application and your
long-term goals will make this one of the better calendar tools
available.

Suggestion 1

A configuration file for setting everything from the dsn to the
basepath of fckEditor. I updated RC3 to RC5 and it took me a good
deal of time to remember where all the changes needed to be made. All
of which could be managed in a single config file. Since a vast
majority of us will not be using it in the root of our site it's
important that 'kalendarURLPath' be included in the top level
Application.cfc as well.

Suggestion 2

This may already be available and I just haven't figured it out, but
it would be really nice to put just a compact calendar on a page.
Similar to most Blog calendars.

Suggestion 3

Since fckEditor is built into CF8, add a setting for useCF8FCKEditor
and modify display_form to check for this setting.

Just thoughts. Thanks for your efforts.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the kudos! It's good to know that folks like using Kalendar
and support our efforts.

Ill address each topic by number:

1. This is actually a major initiative for Kalendar. Even for myself
when setting up the demo site it has become an issue and I realize it
needs to be addressed. Aside from the two application.cfc files is
there anything else you have had to change when you upgraded?

2. The condensed view should serve your needs. Please let me know if
not or if anything would need to be changed for that view. I am
currently in the process of breaking the custom tag into smaller parts
so views can easily be managed and other views easily created without
the worry of damaging the primary custom tag or any of the other
views.

3. Dan and I discussed this and I think for now we are going to leave
it as is. After the 1.0 gold release we will no longer support CF 6
for future releases. However, we would still like folks using CF 7 to
be able to use FCKEditor. Maybe after 1.0 is released we will add some
logic to use the built-in FCKEditor if they are running CF 8

We do appreciate the feedback. If you have more, please, send it
along!

TJ,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Obviously, the application.cfc files are the primary reason for my
comment, but I even added the dynamic location to the rss icon.

I thought the condensed view might do the trick, but I haven't played
with it enough to know if it will suit my need.

Even though I use CF8, I have my own copy of FCKEditor loaded on my
sites primarily because I have more control in a hosted environment.
The really nice about CF8 is that you can use <cftextarea
richtext=true> and there is a basepath attibute that allows you to
point to you own implementation. This is really nice consider CF is
already a couple of updates behind. My biggest frustration with
Kalendar and FCKEditor was that I apparently missed the step that said
I had to have it installed in order for Kalendar admin to work
correctly. The "description" field does not fail gracefully in the
display_form.cfm and it took me a couple of minutes (literally two
minutes) to realize that the toolbar settings and FCKEditor were not
included.

Thanks again.

Steve
