Not sure whether I'll be able to help plan the Food Justice Conference this year, but the good news is a lot of Occupiers are getting interested in Food Justice, and I've been encouraging them to join you (that way they will not be duplicating efforts)!

Anyway...  I wanted to forward on this invitation for a Special ISO Forum we are holding this Thursday 6:00pm at the City Heights Rec Center, in case any of you are able to make it (I knew that many of you would be interested).  Unfortunately, some 70% of crops in the southern part of Haiti were devastated when Sandy hit the Island.  It's uncertain how Haitian farmers will recover.  What this means for us is that there is no food justice without climate justice.

In the wake of the devastation, and in the context of our political discussion on Thursday (with a lead in by our resident Climate fanatic, Big Gay Alan), We're hoping to raise money for some of the victims of Sandy in Haiti--whose people have also been devastatingly affected by the storm--and whose lack of infrastructure will mean that they'll be suffering even longer in the storm's aftermath.

Would really love to see some of you there,

--Cecile

Join us this Thursday for a special forum on Hurricane Sandy where we'll discuss:
  • How the failure of the World's 1% to address climate change caused Frankenstorm Sandy, and is doomed to cause more--and how we must act now to curb the trend of Global Warming, since it is the poorest people both here and around the world who will suffer the most and the longest from tragedies like Hurricane Sandy.
This Special Forum is also a fund-raiser for Victims of Sandy.  The San Diego ISO will be donating all money raised from this meeting to help with relief efforts in Haiti, whose people were hit exceptionally hard, thanks to its history of strangulation by imperial powers, most especially, recently, that of the US & its military.

Meeting details:

What:  Special San Diego ISO Forum & Fund-Raiser
When:  This Thursday, December 12th, 6:00pm
Where:  City Heights Recreation Center, 4380 Landis Street, just East of Fairmount Ave in City Heights.
To find us:  Take the steps up from the sidewalk that lead to the tennis courts.  Where the tennis courts are on your left, our meeting space is the second room on your right.  Or, take the steps or ramp through the front of the Rec Center.  Once inside, take a left down the long hall.  Our meeting space is at the end of that hall.
