Hey folks, This is a last minute request (sorry!), but I'm hoping we can have a conversation...
and maybe, fingers crossed, make a decision? PLEASE?! :)

I've talked to a few a you... about how the 1in10 Coalition is planning a Farm Bill series for April. Well, gosh it's been nuts trying to figure out details, what was possible, if it's happening, what the content would be, etc etc. We've got things nailed down enough now, BUT now it's just TWO WEEKS AWAY!

Yikes! Anyway... the point is...

1in10 is hosting a Farm Bill Forum, Tues April 2 from 5-8pm, free and open to public of course, and we are planning to have a light meal during the early part, 5-6pm, for approx 100 people (the size of the room we have booked). Because, hey, what is a good food justice community event (even around policy) without free food?!?!

So, the *ASK*..... We, the 1 in 10 Coalition, would really really love for Cultivating Food Justice to "sponsor" the light meal. I personally would adore having the Saboteur's Kitchen be the cooks as well. Some of our own CFJ folks belong to that new worker cafe (in just pop-up form right now), so it just seems sooo appropriate. It would be something simple, easy to make, and of course super tasty, maybe like they did for the Kale Festival (how many of you made it there?) - but this time actually getting paid something for their services, in addition to "tips" and having the food costs covered.

Buuuuuuuut....... CFJ works by group process. So, while I love the idea, I have to ask all of you in order for it to happen or not...
Would we, CFJ, like to sponsor this meal that leads into the community event?
Would we be cool with paying for the food materials and Saboteur's Kitchen services?

We need an answer ASAP (sorry!) because we have to finish the flyer this weekend since the event is coming up so quick. Below is a quick dirty version of the info so you have an idea.

If I don't start hearing back by tomorrow (Sat) midday, I may be calling y'all, so don't be surprised!

THANK YOU!! for your time and thoughtfulness
Mariah

Thanks for the replies!!
Here's what I have heard...

Cathy - This sounds great!
Fer - yes! though maybe have a bias as member of SKitchen ;)
Kate - maybe get things donated or have folks b.y.o? not strongly opposed
Joann (FNL) - Sounds good to me.
Philip (FNL/HarvestingSD) - I vote YES! Free food for all! What's the budget?

Here's the additional comments received (total = 9 plus me)...

- David: If the money is there, I'd love to see it go to a local cooperative that seems to fit so perfectly with the subject matter at hand.
- Rachel: My vote is obviously yes
- Beth (FNL): yes - go for it! Spoke with Fernanda at the market yesterday... I mentioned that it would be good to have some clear goals for the April 2nd evening ("spend, but with a goal in mind").

So, after all these replies (thanks!), it seems we have enough support for a YES to go forward... CFJ *will* sponsor the meal for the April 2nd Farm Bill Forum. THANK YOU!

Now the question will be to determine $ amount... That timing has a tad more leeway (but not much since it's just two weeks away!) Does anyone have a suggestion? It's for 100 people. My understanding is the Saboteurs Kitchen folks are having an internal meeting on Tues. We CFJ could decide to set a limit beforehand or we could wait for their proposal... Any preference? We probably know most of them personally, or at least spread amongst our group, so I personally think we can trust them to be reasonable and do justice ;)

Thanks!!
Mariah
