Below is a brief account of the business meeting. If you have any
comments, suggestions, please reply to this discussion.
CFI Austin Business Meeting
June 11, 2011
In attendance: Clare W, Steve B, Mike I, Robert M, Bill and Barbara F,
Jim D, Elze H, 1 dog, 2 cats.
Main topics:
Misc. short history accounts and gossip [CFI Austin finances; past
interactions with ACA; Steve going to leadership conference in
Amherst; need to get everyone involved at discussions]
Adjustments of some events?
• better night than Mondays for Drinking Rationally [Monday still
seems best]
• better night than 1st Tues for Non-fiction book club [Jim will ask
attendees]
• better venue for book clubs [a new venue will be tried with non-
fiction group]
• Other venues suitable for CFI Austin [Bill and Barbara will
investigate places south]
• List of potential venues to consider: Mangia’s on Mesa; Café
Express, North By Northwest; other suggestions?
How to (re)energize the group?
• include more educational activities [bible study course]
• “mother ship”[Amherst office] to help more with major events
• (re)institute activism in political, social, educational spheres
• more attention to greeting newcomers at events
Before September we should start planning for Darwin Day in Feb
Cook out this summer?
Saturnalia party?
The End of Earth Day (Earth’s Last Birthday Oct 21)?
There are 3 strands to think about in terms of what CFI Austin can
provide for its members; survey needed?
• Social events for members
• Educational activities for members and others
• Activism – political/social – things that give voice to our
concerns. [rally against Prayer Rallies; school board issues]
