Hello, all.

This week Menso Folkerts and a colleague are here in the St. Louis area researching the sons of Gauss, Eugene and Wilhelm, who came to St. Charles.  Specifically, they  would like to find out what became of the letters Gauss wrote to his sons.  If you have any knowledge of what happened to them, please answer.  They are not trying to get them; they just want to know what became of them.  The family story is that Eugene burned all of his father's letters, with the exception of 3.  One is in the Dunnington collection in Northwestern State University of Louisiana, one is in my possession, and one was sent to the Lick Observatory in California.  Inquired about a couple of years ago, and they found correspondence about its donation to the institution, but, sadly, they no longer have it, and do not know where it is.  Dr. Folkers would like to find the fate of letters written by Gauss to his other son, William.  If you have any information, could you send it to this list, or contact me?

Susan
