Im not finding much useful info about how to deploy apps as EAR/WAR
files using CFMX 7. As I understand it, I should be able to create one
of these files using CF Admin, and if I get it set up correctly, I'd be
able to achieve "sourceless" distribution. However, I distinctly
recall my having been able to merely rename the cfusion.war file (for
the J2EE verison of CFMX7) to have a .zip extension, and then unzip all
the source files from it. If this is possible to do with EAR/WAR files
created using CF Admin (rename and then unzip the source files),
wouldn't any moron be able to "crack" my app pretty easily? Or are the
EAR/WAR compressed differently somehow? Is there any difference
between the EAR and WAR file formats? And lastly, is sourceless
distribution even possible in the CFEverywhere environment (using
CFMX7)? If so, .. how?

Thanks,

I'll let others speak on CFMX 7, but in case you or anyone else is
interested in sourceless deployment with BlueDragon, it's indeed possible,
and secure. It's not about the WAR file (and how easily that can be
unzipped) but rather that what you put into the WAR file (or open web app)
is your CFML templates after they've been processed by the "precompile"
feature of the BD Admin console. If you open those CFM or CFC files, you see
unreadable junk. Unlike the CFENCODE utility of CF, there is no mechanism to
revert that back to CFML source.
