first intern meeting minutes

Thanks for coming to the meeting everyone and sorry about the time mix-up.  Some notes from the meeting.  Read over them so you remember which tasks you committed to.

-Gabe

1. Our new office

- good for storing stuff, maybe office hrs

- Mary will decorate it with posters, etc. ($100)

- we should also do office hrs in Lau

- bulletin board out front- Alex will talk to Janet about getting a key; also needs to be updated

2. Who's around this semester

- Emmie, Michelle, Alex, Caroline, Mary, Gabe

- Laura left the CFE

- please remember to submit your hours to Leslie every week by Thursday afternoon and fill out the google form

3. We need about 3 new associate interns

- underclassmen

- Gabe will transfer application to google form and send to the group for approval

- Applications due Friday, Sept. 20 at 5pm; they can start by early Oct.

- Emmie will make quarter sheets with link to application at Comm. Resources expo; send link to professors to announce in class; STIA listserv, etc.

4. Summer accomplishments

- Waterbottles- All interns will get one

- Recycling bins

- GEL website

5. New CFE website

- transitioning to Fatwire

- Michelle and Emmie will create a document with suggested revisions/edits to the website to present to Edd

- is our web address going to be www.cfe.georgetown.edu?

- website is urgent because we want to tell people to go to it!

6. Tshirts, etc.

- Mary will look into CFE tshirts like we were talking about

- pens too if they really are as cheap and cool

7. Cooperating with Env. Initiative

- Gabe met with Rachel Yancy, administrator for Env Initiative: now that they have their footing and are established with faculty, they want to reach out to students.  Research is main priority.  Gabe suggested mentorship program, research symposium, working with GUJOE.  Also, many events to cosponsor, publicity in newspapers, student internship opportunities.

8. GUJOE

- Michelle and Alex looking for funds for printing; 200-300 copies is plenty

- work with Env. Initiative, possible funds; Gabe will connect A &M with Rachel

- how much can CFE chip in?

- editorial board

9. Comm. Resources Expo

- appx. 9:30-1:30 Wednesday in Sellinger; need CFE table, tablecloth, spinner contraption, environment quiz questions, prizes, quarter sheets for CFE application, half sheets for environmental studies minor, half sheet for upcoming events

- manning the table doesn't seem like a problem

- Alex needs twine from Gabe to hang banner outside of Leavey

10. Events

- need to solidify speakers and dates in order to advertise them

- movie nights are ok if they don't take too much effort or money

11. Other

- Who wants to make us a real logo?  It has to conform with the Visual Identity guidelines.  We need one asap because it pertains to all our publicity, tshirts, etc.

- Gabe will make new google group for CFE

This looks awesome! Lots of great work. Please save me a water bottle and I will get swag then pay peeps back. 

Lets hire dudes and try to get some freshmeat. I know Elmendorf doesn't allow announcements in her bio class but maybe try and hit up the chem classes? POG classes? Any other professors/intro classes that people know of? 

If ya wanna hook up my blog to cfe/gel website that'd be swag. My program is conservation/rainforest restoration/impact of tourism on environment. 

I'll miss you all and can't wait to hit the ground running in January! 

I think Mary might be trying to find some new members tonight at club lau...
