Happy summer, and happy Senior Week!
I hope your finals went well, and that everyone is looking forward their summer projects/travels/work/etc.
I'm sending this email because study days and finals, besides forcing a lot of academic thinking, also inspired some CFE thoughts. I thought it might be nice to share ideas for next year in a casual way over the summer- anyone interested in a summer email thread or Google Doc?
Some things from finals:
1. No or very badly labeled recycling in study spaces.
For example, I spent some time in the Copley Formal study space, and noticed there was absolutely no recycling in there. This is going to sound dramatic, but I sat there and listened to the trash men crush hundreds of plastic and paper containers into a trash/landfill destined bag while trying to write a paper... if I wasn't on a deadline at the time, I might have sorted the trash and recycling.
Various campus departments sponsored study space and study snacks, maybe we can sponsor sustainable studying during finals weeks.
2. Why doesn't OCAF require recycling bins to be present just like trash bins for every event Georgetown hosts?
The amount of events held on this campus with refreshments every year is ridiculous, and there are only trash bins at every one. OCAF loves to impose random costs (like $17 Hall Manager fees for no reason), why not require recycling? A little policy change would have so much influence.
I had various other indignant thoughts about the wastefulness of people throughout study days, but I will not impose them on you :) Let me know what you think about summer communication!
