Mike would like me to share my 1st race experience. I'll start by saying that the training is paying off, and I'll admit I haven't been following everything mike has posted. I also started late. So do not think that it is to late to start, but you do have to take the training seriously if you want to compete. I found the Sprint training very helpful, especially if your able to hold on to the front third of the pack, which I found easy due to the drafting and the time I've been able to put in the saddle with focused training. In my first race I was at the back and was only able to hold on for three laps, the sprinting off the turns off the rear is brutal. Riding in the pack for the first time is exhilarating, but can be intimidating if you never have been in some kind of group ride, Mike is very good about sharing his skills on how to read and ride in his
group rides, and also Elvis and Tony will help dial you in. I only had one cool down lap before I went right into my second race, I was exhausted, but I refueled, changed my numbers and went right to the front, I had trouble in clipping fast enough, but still stayed in the front third, I thought I would fade again but it was amazing how the draft revitalized me, I finished in 23 in the pack, WE CAN COMPETE if we train, the adrenaline rush kept me euphoric for hours, can't wait for my next race, Ron |
