Hi guys (all 2 of you so far). :) I've been having a lot of trouble
with spam on my other google groups recently, so I just made them both
invite only and have done the same with this new CacheBox group even
though it hasn't received any spam yet. You can request an invitation,
however, I won't be approving anyone unless they answer this question
in some semi-meaningful way that doesn't involve dating or adult-
entertainment: "What do you like most about ColdFusion?" Hopefully
this will cut down on the spam. Thanks guys.

P.S. I've also set it up so that members can invite other members. :)

There's a setting in Google Groups where you can hold back the person's first post until it's moderated. This has cut back on the spam 100% on the CFWheels group. Sounds like it would be about the same level of effort as the invite request system.

Just a suggestion...

Hey thanks Chris. I honestly have been finding the google groups
interface a bit confusing... Google are usually pretty good about
that, but their groups interface just doesn't seem to do it for me.
Not that I'm not grateful for the service, it's great, I just wish the
interface were a little easier to understand. And I seem to be having
difficulties specifically with the CSS fouling up on some of it in the
latest Firefox on 64-bit Vista (so there's no telling which piece of
software is the culprit in particular). So much so actually that the
interface to update the "welcome message" (which I did earlier today)
was almost unusable. It was really horrid.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion -- where is that setting by the
way?

When you're on the main screen, there's a link to the right that says Group settings.

On that screen, go to the Access tab.

Way at the bottom of the sea of radio buttons is the setting for Message Moderation. Choose No moderation - messages are delivered directly and then check the box next to Messages from new members are moderated.

Thanks Chris, I somehow completely overlooked that checkbox when I set up the request-membership option... so I'm gonna try this instead. :)
