hello,

i am sorry but i could not send my question as a new post to the
discussion group because
there is no button "new post".
I am member of the fds discussion group and so i dont need to setup a
new account.
Therefore i activate only the button "apply membership" on your site.
However,
my interest is to systematically variate input parameters for fds and
cfast input files
and to make sensitivity studies by starting the codes from a batch mode.
Now the problem is, that for prescribing the fire in cfast, the format of the
object files "fire".o is complicated.
For this i have two questions:

1. can i get informations about the format of fire characteristics
specifications in the
.o file?

2. Does cfast (version 6) work with fire specifications of older
versions, because the
input method for cfast (version 6) seems to be unpractically to be
used in parameter
studies.

regards
Dimitrios

The format of the fire object input in CFAST 6 is documented in
Appendix A of the Technical Reference Manual available for download
from the CFAST website at http://cfast.nist.gov

The fire specification for CFAST 6 is not compatible with older
versions of the model. It is specific to version 6.

There is no longer an Appendix A in the last Technical Reverence Manual (SVN 283 from April 11, 2012). Is the file format the same as in Version December 2005 (for CFAST 6.0)?

The format of the fire object file has not changed in version 6 (up to version 6.2.x).  The version from here

still holds for the release version.  Sorry for the confusion.  I didn't realize that the appendix didn't make it into the latest release of the manual.

FYI, fire object files are going away in the next release, replaced by inputs in the main input file.  Thermal properties are also being included in the main file so that an input file is a complete specification of the scenario.

No problem. Dimitrios post was from 2008.

That sounds good. Only one input file is better.
