Initially designed to automate repetitive tasks, Photoshop actions have evolved with added features. They're now versatile tools for creating stunning static and animated effects, made user-friendly through Photoshop's familiar interface and commands.
I recommend creating a folder named "PanosFX add-ons" on your hard disk and using it to store my add-ons for Adobe Photoshop, such as actions, patterns, or brushes. This will help you maintain an organized collection. I advise against storing third-party add-ons in Photoshop's Preset folders as they will not transfer to new installation folders during major Adobe Photoshop updates.
The Actions panel serves as the hub for loading, playing, creating, editing, and storing Photoshop actions. If it's not visible, go to Photoshop's main menu and select Window > Actions.
I have dozens and dozens of Photoshop Actions on my hard drive, which I used to be able to see at a glance in multiple columns so as to actually install/activate the ones I want to use/be at hand in Photoshop. In the latest version all I get is an enormous ONE COLUMN list which scrolls very, very slowly. Has anybody solved this issue and/or know how to even describe in proper Adobese what settings are involved? Thanks.
Where should one save these .atn files?
Mac:
/Applications/Adobe Photoshop ???/Presets/Actions
Win:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop ???\Presets\Actions
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop ???\Presets\Actions
If an .atn file is saved to the default application/program presets folder as above, the action will be listed and available in the action palette menu. This allows an action to be easily restored if it is removed without having to manually find and load the original .atn file. If there are many actions, this menu may become unwieldy due the length of the added action sets.
Thank you for this reply, buy I'm afraid it is still beside the point I am trying to fix. In my messages the operative words would be: ....multiple columns showing every(action)thing on my hard drive..... Only that would enable me to see a useful overview for the reasons I mentionned earlier. As things are now, only ONE colum (black on white in my case) show up and it only moves like as snail.......

I use a Mac for Photoshop, so I can't comment on whether any version of MS Windows OS actually can show the action panel menu in multiple columns. On the Mac OS it is a single column list just as you show on MS Windows OS.
I was trying to follow Adobe's instructions on doing this but I don't see the macOS path they recommend to find the location to install the .psp file I copied from my iMac to the MacBook Pro. Adobe's article is called "Actions are Missing"; this article also included a section to migrate actions from one computer to another.
As already suggested by @D Fosse , you can save actions as .atn file anywhere on computer. Use zipping tool to compress them optionally then send to yourself using email, or upload somewhere like Google Drive then download on new machine, unzip and load or copy/paste in default location to have them listed from Actions panel menu.
Thank you all for your great advice. I guess I was overthinking this issue. I did download the .atn files, use a thumb drive, and load them into the Macbook Photoshop actions. I definitely got confused regarding the .psp file and Adobe's instructions on migrating actions.
It can get confusing, however, you did the right thing by saving as .atn for each action set. Keep a backup of the .atn files, way too many people lose years of work by not saving out their actions. More here:
This thread will be the home for links to Actions that we can download and install in Photoshop Elements. Group members are invited to add their own actions. As well as links to those they recommend.
Details on how to install and access Actions in Elements
Remember that not all actions will work in Photoshop Elements. So when posting a direct link to an Action download. Please state..........
1. Is the Action Elements friendly.
2. A short description of what the Action does.
If you're not sure if an action will work in Elements or not. Please state this. We may be able to take it to bits and make it work in Elements.
If you have any questions. Or want to say something about actions. Please either start a new thread. Or post to THIS THREAD Thankyou.
[Edit] Sorry, these Actions are no longer available [/edit]

@ artoris...... This is very strange. I know that the link works because I just downloaded the zip file myself. And installed the .atn & .psd files in E4.
Having said that, I doubt that it is a fault at your end . I'm sure that it is a problem with Quicksharing.com. It has been hit and miss for a few days now. :-(
I could email the 2 files to you. Thats your choice. At the moment I'm stuck for an answer. I will try and find another file sharing host. But until then I can only use Email.
The files are very small, 12kb for the both of them. Private mail me if you want me to sent the files. You'll find my Email address in my profile. Or FlickrMail me.

Just curious - do you have to shoot your original image in RAW in order to use/create HDR? I am just "learning" about it -- but really only know that the pictures are just gorgeous. Need to look into it more....
Anyway, it would be cool to have a PSE action to get the effect!
Thanks for all the actions Frank (and others) : )

Frank, I have never been able to get these actions in Elements. I have version 5. I did everything I was supposed to do, but it's like they won't "move" over to PSE. I have paid for actions from someone else and those work just fine. What am I doing wrong??
Oh, and I have Vista :

No I'm not Frank, but did you delete the "Effects Cache" folder (which is in the "Cache" folder) when you put the new Actions into the "My Actions" folder? First time I put a couple of Actions in, followed the instructions and it worked fine. Then I later tried some adding more Actions - I couldn't work out why they wouldn't work until I remembered to re-delete that Effects Cache.

@ johnpnj..... HDR - no I don't have an Action for PSE for it, but then it's something that should be done to a minimum of three exposures at a time - many people recommend 7 exposures. That would be one hell of an action, though I believe it's something that PS CS2 & 3 can do, with a plug-in.
To do it, I fully recommend that you get a trial version of DynamicPhoto HDR. Their website has full tutorial, advice and other help, and the trial version (which has a very informative and useful pdf full of the same advice) is so good you may be tempted to upgrade to the full package, at a very reasonable $40 mark. (The trial version lags a little behind the full deal in a few small things and puts a very small mark in the corner of the produced result).
I'll stress that I have NO connection at all with the company. I just find it a very smooth working, user-friendly tool.

May I just extend my sincerest thanks to the brilliant people who have made my life so much easier by creating the Actions in this thread.
This must be the best Group on Flickr - if not, it's darned close.

My thanks as well. I got talked into buying PSE6, (and talked myself into a D40 as well) so I want to try these out and see how I do.
FYI, some of these links are dead though. Chels High Contrast link, and graficalicus' True Colour Blast/Crisp Sharpening Action link. Don't know if Mods can delete them or not; just a heads up.

True color got moved into my B&W Lab pack (so it's not a freebie anymore - 8^( )
Now that I've graded the installer packs, I can go back to playing and posting actions and other effects in my blog. That's the part I like best, anyway!

Thanks for the actions and the help installing them, this is great! I installed the Lomo, Color-Pop and the Orton in PSE6. All I did was change the psd file in the zip to a png file and it has worked fine for me. thanks again!
