Thanks for your reply Anuj

I have just received my material and begun my preparations.
Is it wise to study from the books first and then get the Schweser material or go through the kalan material and skim through the study guides from CFA.

I know since I originally intended to appear in Dec that there was a question bank floating around. Is there a way to get a link to that

Thanks once again for all your help

Dear seniors, I am new to the forum. I want to get your inputs on the why CFA part right now.

Currently I am working as a business analyst in a KPO with significant consulting interface profile. In course of 2 years as an analyst I have come across and used financial terms and calculations sporadically and mainly my field is business research and process analysis.

MBA plans are on hold, as my target is top 50 gmat schools for which I need atleast 4+ kick ass exp and good acads. So in all honesty started searching ways to fill up the gap. CFA topped the list (distance MBA is really distant).

Official version is that I have developed some basic understanding of (qualitative) financial modeling - NPV, business case, cash flow analysis - and would like to formalise my learning.

My background is engineering, not from IIT/DCE/NIT/Govt. :( and high level understanding of financial terms. Request your inputs on building the case for CFA.

Cheers!!
Jasprit

Hello Manas,

I gave my paper in Dec'09. I have gone through both of them. Actually i started a bit early and completed my Schweser then when i registerd i Revised form CFA mail book.

What I recommend is read Ethics and Quants, EConomics and FSA from CFA curriculum
and remaining for the schweser will work. And please do check all the material you are reading from schweser from the CFA main curriculum, that you have not left anything.

Yes there is a software given by all prep tutors. Like Schweser give Schweser Pro Question bank similarily there is one for Stalla. you can easliy get a copy from torrents  etc like search engines. for it to work please change your system date to one year back and it will work.

or you can get entire Schweser material form i think Laxmi Xerox in mumbai vile parle. he vl give entire bunch of CD and material etc.

QUESTION BANK is very important. vl help you a lot for the D-day.

Great Thanks Anuj

So i take that the shweser quesn bank is popular than stallas and doing one would suffice.
Are there any version specific things i shud b aware of like jun 2010 exam wud have its own version ?
Does anyone know the weight of the package from laxmi xerox and does he include the question bank along with it ?

hey manas......

Maxmi Xeros no is 022-26134350/26135051/26104193.
I also did Schweser Qbank and found it better and Sufficient having more than 4200 questions.
I dont think there is any version or so, but it get updated with Every Exam in june and Dec.
Please try and get latest one for 2010 as i think there are certain changes in the curriculm too. and also FSA in the exam FSA also focussed on IFRS rather than US GAAP, so prepare according to that only.

Laxmi Xerox is another set of 6-7 books with average 300 pages  :) :)

Hope all your queries are resolved

Please feel free to ask.....!!! best of luck for the Exam and me too for the result.. he he

Could those who had taken and pass the exam evaluate the Level 1
topics so that we can know which chapters based on the following 6
level of understanding?

1. Knowledge Level
Can you recall or recognize terms, definitions, facts, ideas,
materials, patterns, sequences, methods, principles, and so on?

2. Comprehension Level
Can you read and understand descriptions, communications, reports,
tables, diagrams, directions, regulations, and so on?

3. Application Level
Do you know when and how to use ideas, procedures, methods, formulas,
principles, theories, and so on?

4. Analysis Level
Can you break down information into its constituent parts?

Do you recognize relationships among the parts and how they are
organized?

Can you identify sub level factors or salient data from a complex
scenario?

5. Evaluation Level
Are you equipped to make judgments about the value of proposed ideas,
solutions, and so on?
Can you prepare a proposal to specific criteria or standards?

6. Synthesis Level
Can you put together the parts or elements such as to reveal a pattern
or structure not there before?
