In case you didn't know, CF community member, and long-time
contributor to this list, John Whish recently released a book about
ColdFusion ORM. I have read the book and consider it to be required
reading for anyone wishing to make use of CF's ORM features in
production.

While the Adobe documentation is reasonable from an introductory point
of view, it is woefully inadequate in many respects. Sure, you can
read through the online Hibernate docs, get yourself a copy of "Java
Persistence with Hibernate" (which has examples in Java), and look for
and read numerous blog posts by members of the community. You _could_
do that, or you could pick up a copy of John's book and get just about
all the information you could possibly need in one well written
package.

Yes, I am a fan of John and his book (which I just finished reading).
No, I do not make any money from the sales of his book. I just think
it is an excellent resource for anyone interested enough in ORM to be
a member of this list.

You can find more information on the book at http://www.coldfusionormbook.com/.

Cheers,
Bob

Thanks for the heads up! I sure didn't know of the existence of that book.
Purchase made :)

This topic should be pinned :)

I agree on pinning this topic.  I just picked up the book yesterday, and it's great so far.  I had to learn many of the lessons in the book the hard way.  Any developers new to ORM will save themselves a lot of time and grief in reading this book.

I agree with the idea, but I don't think it's possible to pin a topic
in a Google Group. If anyone has a suggestion as to how to achieve
this let me know.

You may be right about pinning a topic for all.  I don't own any Google Groups though, so perhaps owners have an administrative function which allows pinning...

No idea about pinning but you could modify the footer:

I just wanted to hop and and thank you all for your kind words.

I didn't want to abuse my membership of the list by plugging the book,
but I'm very glad that Bob has and others like it :)

Thanks for that, Carl. I had no idea that was possible.

Done.

Great Book! I highly recommend it. As a noob to the ORM world, its really helped out, especially with the relationship areas. Its also now available in epub version as well.
