I've been after myspace for months now to upgrade and optimize their code. They have no caching, no real 'proper' flow, and from what people heard at CFUNITED, no development cycle. The big thing they did? Buy more hardware and move from CF 5 (yes, that's ColdFusion 5) to BD.Net and say that it'll solve their problems.
Well, here's a problem. I just went to their DB.Net site and this is what I got. Looks like they still need some work:

An error occurred while attempting to establish a connection to the service.

The most likely cause of this problem is that the service is not currently running. You can use the 'Services' Control Panel to verify that the service is running and to restart it if necessary.

Windows NT error number 2 occurred.

The New Atlanta crew have been using this as their flagship 'move to DB' site and if I were them I'd think twice about it. I've held back blasting Microsoft, New Atlanta and MySpace till now and will try to hold off some more in the future, but something has to slip and this is it. :)

My impression was that the move to Blue Dragon was not complete yet. I
was under the impression that they had pieces of code in production,
but not the whole site. So, you may very well be jumping to
conclusions, unless you have some more insider info.

They've been moving since around the beginning of the year (inside info) and if I got one of their servers that was not moved, then I'm wrong. On the other hand, my issue has always been that they have not optimized their code base, have not set up any 'real' caching or any of the code tricks to make a hard hit site shine through. Their response (stated publicly) is to throw hardware and a better server at the problem.
(Yes, I'm saying publicly that BD.Net is better than CF 5, which is what they were on and the core of the New Atlanta/Myspace marketing.)

No offense or anything but what is so great about MySpace.com? From the
reaction on the email lists and at the cfunited conference, there were quite
a few people who never even heard of the site (myself included)! In
addition, having perused their site, what is so great about it that New
Atlanta would put so much energy into it?

When it comes to marketting, size matters (not that way you perv. :)
Myspace has a lot of traffic, mostly in the younger demographic. In addition, the site was running on CF 5. Getting a large site moved from CF to BD is always going to be a marketting coup for New Atlanta. Does it matter that you never heard of the site? Nope. Does it matter what the code looks like? Nope. All that matters is that it was a big CF site and is now a big BD site.

And then you have to ask if it matters that it's a big BD site... nope. LOL
