The Rebel Jesus - Jackson Browne (appropos for today I think)
Imagine - Beatles? Or was that just Lennon?

Not sure if it's a good fit...

A few Cat Stevens tunes iirc...

Morning Has Broken (afaik this had been a christian hymn since long
before Cat)
The Wind (maybe in the same category as Imagine)
Oh Very Young (again, maybe the same category as Imagine)
Jesus
I Think I See the Light

He recorded some others that I personally associate with thoughts of
heaven / god that probably won't fit in your category, Home from the
Numbers album, which has this chorus:

Forever forever your lamp will burn
Forever home forever would that you'd learn
That you came with nothing
So with nothing you'll return

There's a Jesus reference in Fire and Rain (James Taylor -- don't know
if he was the original artist)

Imagine (John Lennon) was not a religious. The song posits that the world would be a better place without religion...

"a better place without religion" == "song about religion"

He didn't say "religious songs" he said "songs about religion" ...

And I qualified the song in the following part of the email.

One Sunday morning about 10 or 12 years ago, back when radio stations
had local dj's that actually took requests I got a dj to play
Blasphemous Rumors, Dear God and Losing My Religion back to back as the
Sunday morning request. At the time I thought is was quite the coup.

FYI - Losing My Religion is not a literal term in the REM song.

"Losing my religion" is a southern phrase meaning something like "I'm at the end of my tether".

I was avoiding devil/hell songs myself... couple reasons... lots of
tangential "devil" metaphors like "Devil With the Blue Dress"... I
also don't believe in "the devil" or hell (although I do believe in
god), and I figured there are probably a lot more devil songs anyway
(even eliminating the tangents) between death-metal and just generally
"bad-mood" songs from grunge and hard rock bands and didn't want to
innundate the list with "negativity"...

But if it's out there, I guess

I'll have to listen to that again (in spite of how played-out it is)
.... seems like an odd pick... being a tribute to Marylyn Monroe from a
stereotypically gay man... has more to do with the obsession gay men
have with her (or at least their culture) than with any kind of
religious inclinations... but then that may not be obvious from the
lyrics, it's been a while since I've listened to it.

> I'm A Believer - Smashmouth

The Monkeys... Smashmouth was a cover... seems like an odd choice
too... it's more of a love song really...

Speaking of the Monkeys, Pleasant Valley Sunday oddly enough doesn't
have any references to religion at all, but it reminds me about

All the Lonely People - the Beatles

A little loose interpretation. And it could be just the name, not the content.

I think Ms Monroe was an angel, so it fits in my book. =)

So, by my own reasoning, I should have included
Graceland - Paul Simon, since Elvis was God.

No not really.. In Flames has some real melodic songs.. Trigger and
Oridnary Story come to mind first..
I have a few of their CDs.. Jester Race, Whoracle (AWESOME), Colony,
Clayman, and Reroute to Remain (another awesome one)..
Slayer is like Evil Death Metal, whereas In Flames is just Metal, the
sing about life, and don't really center on religon..

Oh, it occurs to me that there are religious references in both Big
Time ("and I will kneel in a big church, as I pray to a big god... and
my heaven will be a big heaven and I will walk through the front
door") and In Your Eyes ("I see the doorway to a thousand churches").
Neither of which likely fit the category...

Looking at the discographies for Gabriel and Genesis I see

Visions of Angels - Genesis (not familiar with it)
The Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man - Genesis - same
In the Beginning - Genesis - same
the Serpent - Genesis - same
Jesus He Knows Me - Genesis - same
Here Comes the Flood - Gabriel - also haven't heard it - might not be
a mythical reference
Blood Of Eden - Gabriel - haven't heard

There's a song about "the restless soul of gallileo" -- I don't
remember the artists name -- female... very philosophical song, but
it's about reincarnation ... sorta... I dunno, it's hard to
interpret... but I guess, it would fall into the religion category if
you include references to religious concepts and consider
reincarnation to be a religious concept (I don't know how you could
consider it to not be a religious concept).

Oh... and I forgot to mention I saw a song by the Monkees called
Jericho... haven't heard it, so I don't know what the content is...

If you include some older mythology, Jethro Tull recorded a song
entitled A Cold Wind to Valhalla. They also had a whole album entitled
"Christmas Album" with Ring Out Solstice Bells, A Christmas Song and
some others...

Those are really using religious symbology as metaphor for other
things though. Sort of like Holy Diver that I mentioned.

But that's probably over analyzing it.

Someone please explain the term Bi-otch

What the hell if you're going to call someone a bitch call them a bitch?
Does bi-otch somehow make it more palatable? Able to be said on the
airwaves? I don't get it and its annoying as can be.

Actually, it annoys me too. But that's what my wife tells me every time
I complain about "the youth of America". :)

As a side note on this, for all you parents of young'uns out there,
please, please teach your children proper manners. Like saying:

please
thank you
excuse me
you're welcome

show them that they should open doors for women, give up their seat on
the subway for old ladies.

tell them that when they get their first job as a cashier at a
convenience store (or any place where you interact with people), they
should act like a HUMAN, and actually speak to the person, act they are
really there. I've had better interaction with the Bank of America ATM.

show them that standing in the middle of the aisle at the crowded
grocery store isn't cool.

tell them to respect their elders, somewhat. (i'm actually on the fence
on this one).

I am growing ever more tired of the fucking little punk-asses I have to
deal with every day. What happened to being civil?

Okay, sorry, rant over.

Lemme see (may be dupes and several aren't exactly pro-religion... but
that's what you get when you ask and atheist this question):

I still remember "Kyrie" (Mr Mister) fondly.

"Dear God" (XTC) was exactly what I needed at one time.

"Money God" (Big Pig) isn't traditional religious... but kinda. ;^)

"Save His Soul" (Blues Traveler) might fit.

"Ya (Rest in Peace)" (Colin Hay Band) is probably more about death.

"God Shuffled his Feet" (Crash Test Dummies)

"There Goes God" (Crowed House)

"God's Comic" (Elvis Costello)

"On the Road to Kingdom Come" (Harry Chapin)

"Busload of Faith" (Lou Reed)

"God is a Real Estate Developer" and "Holy Spirit" (Michelle Shocked)

"There's a Place in Hell for me and My Friend" (Morrissey)

I've always seen "The Bells are Ringing" (They Might be Giants) as one but
it's not without interpretation.

"Calling All Angels" (Train)

"Enlightenment" (Van Morrison)

"A Prayer for our Time" (Vusi Mahlesela)

Well that's what I got from a run through of my music... probably should
have been working. ;^)

He hears the silence howling catches angels as they fall
And the all time winner has got him by the balls
He picks up Gideons Bible open at page one
I thank God he stole the handle and the train that watched her go
You know he couln't slow down
No he couldn't slow down

That song's about infidelity and jealousy isn't it?

There are certainly references to that. But this bit here:

Seems to fit in well with "Drivin' that Train." That was my thinking anyway.

Actually, in spirit, it's a lot like "Mercedes Benz" (which I forgot to add)
in that the protagonist is praying for money and power.

But "Mercedes Benz" is actually a much better song. ;^)

Is there anyway to make something like this work:

insert into application_skills
(
candidate_id,
skill_id,
proficiency_id,
skillType_id
)
values
(
<cfqueryparam value="#client.candidate_id#"
cfsqltype="CF_SQL_NUMERIC">,
<cfqueryparam value="#skill_id#" cfsqltype="CF_SQL_NUMERIC">,
<cfqueryparam value="#formData[i]#" cfsqltype="CF_SQL_NUMERIC">,
select skillType_id from computerSkills_lookup where skill_id =
<cfqueryparam value="#skill_id#" cfsqltype="CF_SQL_NUMERIC">
)

Where I essentially just select the value to insert into my fourth column?
It keeps blowing up. BTW this isn't in procedures, not sure if I can just
do a select prior to the insert to get what I need and stick it in a
variable.

i guess its a dumb question but... you dont/cant know that value
prior to the query running?

im not sure ive EVER seen a select statement
comingling with an insert statement in one operation.

Ok,

In a stored proc I would just do a select above the insert and stick the
return into a variable.

I know I have done plenty of select into kinds of things.

I also might be getting confused with stuff in oracle like

insert into tabel(a,b,c)

select a,b,c from table2 where this=that

Or I might just be all screwed up.

The thing is I am doing multiple inserts into some link tables and I don't
want to have to do a loop outside the query block and end up recreating all
kinds of database connections.

It's no biggie, just someone put in a not null constraint that doesn't make
any sense to me and is forcing me to do something I don't want to. This
schema is mainly taken from a client's DB and some of it isn't exactly
normalized :)

I had a little extra code in the previous one.

insert into application_skills
SELECT <cfqueryparam value="#client.candidate_id#"
cfsqltype="CF_SQL_NUMERIC"> AS candidate_id,

Damn straight it's nice! Nicer than yours! The nicest in fact!

It's so nice that your wants to date mine and buy it expensive gifts!

Actually (as a small bit of history) the imprint "Depressed Press" was
originally applied to a series of twisted Christmas cards a friend and I
tried to developed in high school.

For example:

(cover): "Schizophrenics Give more Gifts"
(inside): "These are from every single one of me"

(cover): "Gift wrapping is a challenge for the armless"
(inside): (scrawled) "Merry Christmas" (small type) "(Written with our teeth
in sympathy)"

(cover): (picture of a Christmas tree) "You wouldn't see this beautiful site
in China"
(inside): (same picture, upside down) "You'd see this."

I never said they were good... but that's where the name came from. ;^)
