SmartDraw integrates seamlessly with your existing file solution, like OneDrive, SharePoint, and Google Drive. Express Chart allows to create real charts and graphs without adding or importing a spreadsheet/datasheet first. That's possible because SmartDraw creates a dummy chart for you -- and you can then type your data directly into the series. For example, if you create a bar chart, you could type in directly within the bars, even drag the bars to represent the right values, or import data from Microsoft Excel.
There's an intuitive Chart tab in the Ribbon that provides easy access to common charting options (see Figure 1).

New Professional Themes: SmartDraw 2008 contains a full library of all new professional design themes (see Figure 2), similar in look and feel to the Microsoft Office Themes, introduced in Office 2007. However, there are no live previews, and themes don't work with charts -- you can however change the whole look of the entire document with a single click.

New Quick Styles: Choose and customize the look of the graphics by selecting styles from over 600 new Quick Styles (see Figure 3) that can be applied instantly to shape elements. You can also add depth and texture with a whole new set of bevel effects. This again only applies to shapes, not to charts.

Built-In Photo Editing: An integrated photo-software (see Figure 4) allows you to import images directly from digital cameras or other source. You can then crop or scale the images, adjust their color and brightness values, and add drop shadows.

Automatic Org Charting and Flowcharting:You can create organization charts and flow charts faster by clicking simple commands, rather than manually arranging and connecting shapes on the page. Lines are drawn automatically, formatting is automatic with shapes evenly spaced and perfectly aligned (see Figure 5).

ImageCharts:You can now create image charts so that your series are represented by relevant images (see Figure 6) -- these images can be dynamically dragged and resized.

Maps with Live Data: Live map capture and live data from Google Maps allows incorporation of roads, regions, counties, zip codes, countries and satellite images from across the globe into your illustrations (see Figure 7). All these elements remain as separate, editable elements.

Web Page Screen Capture: You can capture images of entire web pages, or sections of web pages right from within SmartDraw (see Figure 8). Then edit, crop, transform, and adjusts as needed. Remember, you should not use any visual content without the requisite permissions.

We greatly improved SmartDraw's integration with Microsoft SharePoint and OneDrive for Business. In addition to using OneDrive as your default storage provider, you can now also open and create diagrams directly from OneDrive and SharePoint. It's seamless.

SmartDraw lets you create diagrams from data and connect data to specific shapes for additional information. This latest update lets you connect to data stored in Google Sheets to generate a chart or enrich a shape with data.

Administrators can supply any existing trial account in the organization with a site license key that will transfer that account along with any documents under your umbrella of control. Users can even transfer an existing licensed account to the site license by logging in to their account and transferring their license to the email address that controls the corporate site license.
Limited symbol options specific to interior design. If you use too many JPEG images within the file the system struggles to convert to PDF. (which isn't the case with my other design software). Often glitches when opening files and/or is very slow to open existing documents.
SmartDraw is great if starting from scratch to create drawing ( both simple & complex). If documents need to be traded with users who are using Visio, there will be issues-- especially if drawings need to be updated or converted across several users.
It has most of the power of Visio with some added discovery things so if one is starting without the requirement of Visio integration, its a solid, but pricy tool.
Stated the Enterprise version would import Visio but it is not a 100% conversion to SmartDraw format so that the properties of the Visio document carry thru in the same way with the same functionality.

*) Support and 'help' is primarily from static Web Videos. While they may provide some help, there is not much detail about what steps to take when things DO NOT work -- so one needs to call in and request support. No exactly the fastest turnaround.
I tried Smartdraw for the first time in 2016 and I was impressed by the ease of use ; I understood the major workings around this program in a matter of days.I have used Smart draw for Gantt style charting , simple drawings ,including floor drawings when I moved to my new home a while back.
Smartdraw provides users with a variety of modules ,making it a program which can be leveraged by different professionals in different career fields.
Smartdraw doesn't allow for remote collaboration like what I have come to expect from months of recently embracing Lucidchart. I have also found out that when creating Gantt charts with this program , I am limited in the number of coloumns I am allowed to use.
SmartDraw is the first chart making software I used and I used it for almost all my chart/ diagram requirements for a long time. Though I used this for creating mind-maps most of the time, it did contain all the tools one would require for any type of chart. The software does need some getting used to but once you're familiar with it, it does save a lot of time. If you're not used to a dedicated chartmaker, give this one a try. You'll never go back to manually drawing flowcharts, mind maps or hierarchies.
SmartDraw comes with a large number of templates that are customizable. You'll rarely have to build a chart from scratch with those. The software also consists of almost all the tools one would need to make a chart.
6. Any new diagrams you create using the SmartDraw add-on are all stored inside your Confluence page as attachments not in your SmartDraw account. Anyone who has access to the page in Confluence can see or edit your diagram based on their Confluence permissions. You don't have to explicitly share diagrams separately with them using SmartDraw.
